03 Sep 23 UTC GG everyone! Sorry for all the NMRs I was on a trip.

Overall a decent map, I would play it again. The balance ain't that bad from what I saw, and I love the historical background behind it!
03 Sep 23 UTC I'm just glad I pulled a mid game comeback lol. In the end it was the three way war between me, Ngati Ngati Porou and Taranki that seems to have sealed the win for Ngati Koata.
03 Sep 23 UTC I was hoping at the start to focus on Taranki at the start and ally with Ngati Potou ag the start, but unfortunately the latter decided to attack me. So I just played to be the biggest annoyance I could and somehow got back up to 6 scs.
03 Sep 23 UTC GG. I think bottom island could use another tribe. The top bit is way too crowded, leaving the winner to be whoever wins between koata and tahu. We'll see what more playtesting reveals though
03 Sep 23 UTC Yeah, it takes the North Island longer to consolidate especially when it just turns into a battle royale like this game, (which was still going on even at the end lol) While the South is just a 1v1.
03 Sep 23 UTC Perhaps I'd the North was a even 2v2 it would have consolidated faster
03 Sep 23 UTC If*
03 Sep 23 UTC Maybe, yeah. I was kind of forced to fight everyone at once at one point just to get a couple more centers
03 Sep 23 UTC Thanks for the feedback, gg everyone. It's interesting how gunboat affects things; there's only been 2 games so far but in the other one (open press), 3 North Island players agreed to band together and defeat the 2 on the South Island (who were unable to fight back effectively, having been at war). I think this map might suffer especially from the gunboat problem where it's hard to unite against a common enemy.
03 Sep 23 UTC I love the map though, amazing potential. Solid work
04 Sep 23 UTC GG! Yeah it was probably a bad idea to move against you Rangitane, I really should've tried to go for Taranki or do more to protect the north from Nga Puhi. Gave Taranki an opportunity to mess with me around TnH and Ron, and that really screwed me over since the entire rest of the game was spent dealing with them behind my line and me being unable to properly fight them off. Definitely my bad on that, not sure how much that completely screwed things for all of us.

Will note, at least from what I can tell I feel like Ngati Koata definitely has an advantage over Ngai Tahu in the south. Maybe there was a chance for Taranki to win had they done some different moves around 1804 to keep up their momentum, but yeah the north island definitely devolved into a battle royale with all that, maybe that didn't happen in other tests I'm not sure. But either way, in the south, Ngati Koata, huge advantage imo. So they didn't do this but if they move to Mamoe with their Rarua army then they can secure Tak and Anau for the first turn while Ngai Tahu only gets Oam and potentially one of Toa/Mor, so putting it +2 vs +1.5. But from here Ngati Koata just has a huge advantage with Ota and Rka? Ota is guaranteed since it touches Anau and not Oam and they can move to Whakataka to either take back Anau easily if Ngai Tahu moves there (like in this game) or to take Rka if they don't, since it's unlikely for Ngai Tahu to be able to send a fleet to Mahaanui, maybe if they get lucky with the second build but it's a chance. And these things kind of set the tone for the south, where Ngati Koata has this big advantage and its mostly a matter of how slow will Ngai Tahu fall, I don't really see how Ngai Tahu can really come out on top. (Though checking the other finished game it seems Ngai Tahu came out on top so I stand corrected but also I'd say Ngati Koata has a lot of big misplays there like moving a fleet to Ota instead of Mahaanui where they could force a center off Ngai Tahu), though it does seem Ngai Tahu does have some advantage in controlling Mamoe and can use that to threaten the Ngati Koata core a lot easier.

Idk, those are my rambly thoughts.
04 Sep 23 UTC Seems like a cool map though, excited to see more of it and if some strategies develop
04 Sep 23 UTC Thanks guys :)
