25 Jul 12 UTC | Spring, 901: (kaner406): ----------- Welcome to bourse! you can start immediately by sending me your order, below is your inventory, your current Net Value, Victory Points, and the current trading value of each currency. You can only sell up to 500 units of a currency at a time, but there is no limit on how much you can buy, provided that you don't go into negative in US dollars. You have until the end of Spring 901 to send me your first set of orders (PM), after that the Bourse will close until Autumn 901. Please remember to include your calculations if possible (I realise that Real Life might not always allow you to do so). If I find a problem with your order I will try to contact you about how you would like to rectify your order. If I cannot reach you in time I will make a judgement as to how best to fix it for you. If you haven't already made a spreadsheet for this game I recommend that you do so, or download the one that I've prepared. To download the spreadsheet follow this link: https://docs.google.com/open?id=0BxIREuIvx26uOEIwcXZiT0dzcDg If you have any questions about the spreadsheet, or about the bourse itself, please don't hesitate to ask me. Best of Luck - both on the board and in the Bourse! 26 Jul 12 UTC | Spring, 901: (iLLuM): I am really excited about this. |
26 Jul 12 UTC | Spring, 901: (The Ambassador): I like how our currencies are inevitably tied to their value in USD, which still has almost 900 years to be invented yet. |
26 Jul 12 UTC | Spring, 901: (kaner406): (kaner406): Sorry about that - It's the only currency symbol on the keyboard... |
26 Jul 12 UTC | Spring, 901: (The Ambassador): That's ok. It was a joke! |
30 Jul 12 UTC | Spring, 901: (kaner406): Guaroz and I have decided to swap roles, he'll now be GMing the bourse side of things, and I get to compete :) |
30 Jul 12 UTC | Spring, 901: (The Ambassador): Good for you! |
01 Aug 12 UTC | Spring, 901: (Leif_Syverson): Leif here now (though I'm not officially back from vacation for another 24 hrs...) |
01 Aug 12 UTC | Spring, 901: (The Ambassador): I won't tell the boss Leif if you don't either! |
02 Aug 12 UTC | Spring, 901: (fasces349): lol, because I work part time I actually tell the boss I get back a day before I actually do and hope I'm not scheduled the one day I am not here. This way she is more likely to approve my vacation requests, lol. |
02 Aug 12 UTC | Spring, 901: (The Ambassador): Go for it fasces! I have 6 weeks holiday a year. No where near enough. |
02 Aug 12 UTC | Spring, 901: (iLLuM): 30 days aint bad. Depends where you work and if you get extra public holidays. |
02 Aug 12 UTC | Spring, 901: (iLLuM): Investor talk: So we dont know yet, who will be which country. I would give the following advice: Ambassador: Strong buy Leif: Strong buy Canaduh: Strong buy Fasces: Buy Wolfman: Buy Kaner: Buy iLLuM: Hold Butterhed: Hold King Atom: Sell Airborne: Sell Gobbledegook: Strong Sell DoubleCapitals: Strong Sell this is a PPSC game as well, so the game has a good chance to end with a winner, Also eliminations might be rare as it will make sense to keep a "currency" alive, if everyone expected you to go for the kill. This is one point I wanted to mention: All of us can trade on the market, which will always adjust prices for next round. A real auction system would be not too difficult to implement (with a clearing price) and would teach all those that have no clue about financial markets how it works on the exchanges. Hell, we could even have demand and supply curves. Kaner I will send you an email on the weekend with my ideas. But one thing that we should implement are bilateral deals. The mechanisms still stays the same, but it will bring in a lot more interaction. The rule says you can only bring up to 500 in one currency to the market. How about letting that rule stand and let us trade with the others as we feel. Example: I will buy 500 of Ambassadors currency. But also I want to have as much as possible of that currency. So I could ask Fasces, he would be interested (at a premium most likely), so we would send these bilateral deals with our orders to the GM. (It is more work I agree) What do you think ? |
02 Aug 12 UTC | Spring, 901: (DoubleCapitals): I thought there was no limit in buying? |
02 Aug 12 UTC | Spring, 901: (kaner406): Correction - you can only SELL up to 500 units of any given currency, you can however BUY as many units of any given currency that you can afford. This game is open to negotiations to both Military and Economic negotiations amongst players. But it is important to remember that the Bourse does not directly affect the movements made in the game. Having said that - bilateral agreements that are made between players to 'ally' in-market and on-board... well this is diplomacy after all, and we are experimenting with the Bourse variant. There are in reality 2 games being played. The first is the control of the physical territories on the map, the second is to control the market and be the greatest 'money-lender' in the known world. |
02 Aug 12 UTC | Spring, 901: (kaner406): I am, of course, open to ideas as to how to expand Bourse into the future. So please still feel free to post your ideas. |
02 Aug 12 UTC | Spring, 901: (The Ambassador): Reading DoubleCaps' message got me thinking of another possible market twist, namely we can only buy/sell off each other. This way you're limited to how much you can buy based on what others are prepared to sell, reverse auction style. Just a thought. |
02 Aug 12 UTC | Spring, 901: (kaner406): Struth! how could you possibly GM that? |
02 Aug 12 UTC | Spring, 901: (Wolfman): I thought we could only sell in the first turn, since we have no starting US dollars. |
02 Aug 12 UTC | Spring, 901: (butterhead): @Wolfman- but you get US Dollars when you sell stuff, so you can then use the money you will make from selling to buy stuff... so you can sell in the first turn, and you can buy, but you can only buy as much as or less than you sell in the first turn... |
