New World 1650 Playtest Recruiting Players
Proud to announce a new variant called New World 1650. I spent quite a bit of time learning Adobe Illustrator and reading history and contemporary maps and am pretty happy with the results. It's still in playtest mode, which will be done on Discord: https://discord.gg/r553XZr7Me

Can you see who all the users you have blocked in one place?
Reason for asking, I would like to join a divided states game that is nearing full, but someone in the game has me blocked, or I have someone in the game blocked. I just want to make sure it's not my fault that I can't join the game, even though I don't think I have ever blocked someone. If you could help my situation I'd be very thankful.

The Aussies have let me down
I just discovered that there is a town in Australia called Texas. Furthermore, because it is on a state border, there are in fact two. And most importantly, Peter Sherwin was from Texas, Qld/NSW. So Australia's greatest cattle baron and largest private owner of ranchland was from Texas.

I really like the added randomness that the Greek diplomacy map as with its bidding to your home centers.
Is there any other maps that have something like this?

Convoys with +2 strength variant?
Would a Classic variant with this change (i.e. armies convoyed to a place bringing an attack power of 2 units) be interesting? A convoy involving more than one ship wouldn't have the attack power stack, by the way. If a variant already exists with this property, what is it?

I respectfully decline ubercacher's challenge, invoking rule 3 sent. 4 ("However, you cannot challenge the same person twice in a row, if either player won both games.") and rule 7 clause c ("7. A player MAY refuse a challenge with no penalty to either player, if: [...] c. or have finished a challenge match where they were challenged (not the challenger) within the past 7 days.") to maintain my ladder position without penalty.

I challenge Captainmeme to a map of his choice.

abadu (1227 D)
26 Sep 17 UTC
Woah, what the heck
It got weird.

I thought I was cooked after S03, when Captainmeme successfully took Silesia and had Germany on lockdown. I was fortunate to get a couple of raiding units past his vanguard in Germany; and figured that I could concede as far as Moscow, as long as I could hold the line from Sevastopol to Switzerland, and could disrupt him with the raiders until my Mediterranean units could catch up and make him have to defend his homefront.

Just like we drew it up.
On that note, Captainmeme and I split our first set. We'll probably be headed to England* vs Turkey for the rematch, which I'll set up shortly.
RUFFHAUS 8 (2490 D)
26 Sep 17 UTC
Captain, in game #2 ( http://www.vdiplomacy.com/board.php?gameID=32429 ) I really thought you had him up until Autumn 1906. I realize that I'm armchair quarterbacking here, but in my view you win this game with just two alternate moves this season:

FF English Channel - Mid Atlantic Ocean
FA Silesia - Galicia.

The naval move not only blocks Eden's pirate maneuver, but it sets you up to Spain next year in case he bounces you this turn. Portugal then is then available at your discretion for the duration.

The army move puts you in behind Austria before he's even begun to think about Balkan centers or Turkey, and limits how bold he can be in northern Russia. Yes, it's a fall turn, so a move for position isn't sexy... but you know Austria is going to cover Warsaw here, and he has to do it with Galicia. He covers Warsaw, but you're behind him and wreaking the kind of havoc that he put on you in the Mid Atlantic.
Captainmeme (1400 D Mod (B))
26 Sep 17 UTC
I don't mind advice at all :)

I assume you mean Autumn 1903, not 1906?

I absolutely agree on the MAO move. I realised after the turn went through what a huge mistake that was - my initial feeling was that I could afford one fleet behind the line more than I could afford a rogue army wandering around taking all the Scandinavian centers. Of course, that's not the case - one rogue fleet can hurt massively due to the control over the French HSCs.

I don't agree on Sil-Gal. I was fairly certain that Gal would be covered, because Eden's a good player and a good player would block that move every time. As a result Sil's move was a case on whether I wanted to go for Boh - I didn't, because imo Sil is a far more powerful position than Boh - or whether I wanted to block as much of his movement as possible by bouncing him in War. War felt like the correct move, and I think it probably was.
Captainmeme (1400 D Mod (B))
26 Sep 17 UTC
I should say, Boh is much better when you're also in Tyo, but I didn't think I would get into Tyo - I only moved there because Pie had nothing better to do.
"I was fairly certain that Gal would be covered, because Eden's a good player and a good player would block that move every time."

Both of your premises here are wrong.
