Arctic warfare variant. What do you think?

I'm making a new variant, Arctic Warfare, featuring Scandinavia, Canada and Russia scrambling to control the Arctic. This is very early WIP, but here it is nevertheless.

Cannot join new game because "having trouble keeping up with the ones I'm in"

oops... just posted this in a current thread, sorry - lol - Does anyone kindly have a view. I'm in four games, with a couple about to close and I decided to join a new one... only to be told that I can't. I have a reliability rating of over 99%. What other factor may be affecting this please?

NWO goes MAD

The current NWO game being run at Redscape incorporated new experimental rules for the nukes: MAD (nuclear strikes can trigger automatic nuclear response). Spring 2005 sees 9 nukes trigger 3 nukes which begat another 3 nukes. Yikes!

Diplomacy Simulator

Hi! I'm new here and I don't know if it was already discussed, but it would be nice to have some sort of simulator to test out moves. Sometimes the rules aren't that easy to apply and it's hard to understand what would happen in a very tricky and unique situation...

diplom.org down?

diplom.org used to be the centre of the online Diplomacy community. Even long past its prime it held tons of interesting resources, variant files, articles, etc. For the last few weeks I haven't had any luck loading the site. Does anybody have any idea what's up?

Some of the variants don't tell you much...

Classic Cataclysm, for instance. It has a home page in Russian and our variant page says nothing. Some one want to enlighten?

Error when clicking on top-level "Games"

Error triggered: Not-paused game process-time values incorrectly set..

This was probably caused by a software bug. The details of this error have been successfully logged and will be attended to by a developer.

Define long... Love 2 days or no weekend processing on one day. 3 day is fine, but longer than that is too slow.

I refuse to participate in any game that has a phase length under 36 hours. I could do no weekend processing on one day, but some games are just way too big to do in even that time frame (like Gobble-Earth or Haven).

Certainly different players will have different ideas about what constitutes a long phase length. I play mostly 2-day phases here, and on webdip I play a lot of 3-day gunboats. 3 days and more is what is consider a long phase game. The question is, what are you looking for, Unstupid?

I remember accidently joining some games with cannonfodder. The guy made games at 10-day phases and never, ever, ever readied his orders...

I would be willing to join a long phase game. I generally have joined short phases, but recently my time has been getting short so I think I'll join some longer phases now.

I find that long phases games loses any sense of immediacy with regards to diplomacy. Some people log in so infrequently that there is no sense of back and forth dialogue to build an understanding. The pleasure of seeing a turn resolved, for better or worse, is diluted by how long it takes for it to be processed, then there is another 3 day+ wait just for one player's retreats etc.

I tend to only join or create 7/10 day phase games. There is only one exception for me (Bourse). It allows me more freedom, and the games can be 1 day/phaae if everyone readies up - I would argue that it creates a more fluid game and allows for more tactical ploys later on. But then again, I tend to login once/twice a day so for people who login more often, 1 day/phase may have the same result

I try to keep my minimum to 1.5 days, though I occasionally end up in 24 hours games. If someone wants to start one with a longer timeframe, I'd join. I'm looking for another early-stage / starting game at the moment.

Diplomacy Supreme (WWIV Game) software bug

During the procession of moves this morning, the game experienced a software bug and about half an hour later the map came up with the phase length saying "Crashed". Apparently a mod/developer needs to look at it to fix it. Is there someone who can help us out?

Help a Newbie
