The notices on my front page are all jumbled up in a random order. PMs from weeks ago are at the top, and some of my game messages from the past day or two are lower down. Is anyone else noticing this?

It's time to talk about Scoring
Hello all!

Let's talk about scoring? More specifically, about whether the dreaded Points Per Supply Center (PPSC) scoring should remain an option?

Napoleonic Variant, and the lack of neutral centers
I had the honor to play 'Napoleonic' back in the lab (an awful game as Spain by the way). I had a question back then which I ask here and now:

Why there are no neutral supply centers?

Sengoku Nagashino Feedback Thread
Hi Sengoku Nagashino players - please deposit your thoughts here for designer digestion as the first round of games resolves.

Please do not directly comment on the situation/players etc. of any active games. Please limit your comments to the variant design itself, as it appears at gamestart. Once a game has completed, it is fair game for analysis, but not before please.

obsolete Sengoku variant
Hi all, designer of Sengoku here. I would love to get the latest version of Sengoku in use on this system, as it is much more balanced. Found here: http://dipwiki.com/index.php?title=Sengoku
Even if the DP system, can't be used, the version at http://nairenvorbeck.angelfire.com/ is still better than the one in use currently. Poor Mori needs a fair chance :-) Anyone willing/able to help me get these implemented?

Advertise your NON-live games here!
In an effort to compromise the pro-ads versus anti-ads for games: Post here for your non-live games to cut down on the number of ads but still advertise games. Post game link, WTA or PPSC, and the bet. Note: this doesn't count for special rules games.

New Maps
I'm super new to the site and I was curious how new maps were made and/or submitted. I noticed a lot of the maps look a bit old and it got me thinking about what it would take to create a higher resolution version of a game map. Are there certain file formats a map must be in or is this all a responsibility for site admins only? Thanks!

1900 for vDip: Progress Report (ongoing)
As mentioned in another thread, I've been working on the code and assets necessary to port Baron M. Powell's variant 1900 to vDip and/or webDip.

In order to keep myself accountable in some fashion to actually complete this task, and not just talk about it, I've created a small project plan where I can mark my progress.

Custom phase bug
This might be better in the Mods section, but I thouht I'd post here first to see if other users have any input.

I'm trying to create a new game with a custom phase length. When I select "Custom" from the drop-down menu, nothing happens. However, when I select "2 days, 2 hours", I've given the option to input a phase length. Hopefully this is an easy fix.

I have reported 2 Issues for vdiplomacy to kestasjk/webDiplomacy
Bug 1: "Turn limited vDip games should end after possible retreats" (Issue 261)

Bug/Questions 2; "How does vDip decide who the winner is?" (Issue 262)
peterlund (1080 D)
30 Sep 17 UTC
I thought that kestasjk/webDiplomacy was the place to report also vDip bugs since the project Sleepcap/vDiplomacy does not have an "Issues" tab.

Both bugs are related to this test game. http://www.vdiplomacy.com/board.php?gameID=32471

Bug 1: "Turn limited vDip games should end after possible retreats"
https://github.com/kestasjk/webDiplomacy/issues/261

Bug/Questions 2: "How does vDip decide who the winner is?"
https://github.com/kestasjk/webDiplomacy/issues/262

Can someone please explain to me how I can forward these issues to the vDip design team.

It was also very hard for me to make this post here since the interface was complaining about posting links to github.

Regards
Peter

Hi PerterLund,
sorry for answering late, I was away for the weekend.
You can send bug-reports using the "Mods"-forum. It's on the top-menue of the site.
1.) This looks like a bug. I will check (and fix) this.
2.) From the game-creation-page: The winning player is decided by who has the most SCs after that turn's diplomacy phase. If 2 or more player have the same SCs at the end of the game, the game checks for the turn before, and so on. If player's SC counts are the same throughout the whole game the winner is decided at random.

It does not end in a draw because the webDip-code can only handle all active-players in a draw. There can't be a 2-player-draw with more active players not involved in a draw.

Thanks for the answers! Interesting to know that the system forces a winner to be selected. Good to know where to report bugs for vDip. But I rather have bug report as issues open to read for everyone like on gitub, while I can understand that issues with other player should be kept secret....

Thanks, Peter

To note an addition to the first bug - non-timed games also have the same issue with supplies being tallied (and game end potentially being triggered) between autumn and autumn retreat phases.

Great to hear, I just saw a game where it worked.

The other problem peterlund wrote is interesting, because in the game where it happened there were actually only two players. So if it can handle all survivors in a draw it could at least check that if the tie includes all survivors it should be split? It is possible in any game if [total sc] / [n survivors] is a non decimal number. For example in standard dip it is possible with 2 survivors, whereas in South America for 5 players there are 24 sc and 24/3=8, 24/4=6 so there could also be equal 3 or 4 player draws with no other survivor. If you take into account that not all neutral centers are taken ever in a game then it could happen in many variants.

Or, just change to allow shared wins not including all survivors. I think some of the ken lowe email judges allowed setting a specific draw even one not including yourself. I'm no programmer so I have no clue abouth whether this is an easy fix or not.
Oli (988 D Mod (P))

The software has only 2 options:
1.) Won, Survived, Defeated
2.) Draw, Defeated

It's not possible to have some players Draw, and the rest Survived. Also it's not possible to have more than 1 player Won. Also a Draw always split the Points even between all remaining players. If there is a Winner (remember, only 1), the points are split by the pot-type (PPCS or WTA).
vixol (1047 D)

That's the problem ;)
Oli (988 D Mod (P))

Yeah, and it's nothing that can't be solved easily.
I usually try to implement all changes with minimal changes to the original webdip-code, so I can patch improvements easily in the vdip-code.
I have seen a lot of abandoned code-forks that dies because it was impossible to integrate the base-code back in the fork and want to avoid this at all costs.

In year one when you just meeting everyone, maybe there anonymous but for sure you don't know any of them. How do you know who to trust?
They can be lying through their teeth and text doesn't show tone of voice or eye contact so you have no idea. If you believe them they may stab you. If you don't you venture into a DMZ and piss them off. Ask around to others and you get rumors or nothing. This game seems so much better suited to face to face.

Awhile back, kaner proposed a Known World gunboat tournament in which 15 participants would play 15 games, one with each nation. I searched back for the thread, then just decided to start a new one. I want to see if there would be sufficient interest in this to try to get it off the ground.
