Let’s have a discussion here about what sort of forum we would like to see here at vDip. Please no name calling. Now would be a good time to un-mute members so we can have an informed discussion about this issue.

Live Messaging
A friend of mine and me would like to play a game of diplomacy where all player connect on Facebook or WhatsApp to communicate. We would set up a gunboat game here and then it's a regular game, just by different means of communication. Anyone interested?

Classic Redrawn
I got bothered with some of the historical inaccuracies of the Classic map - like French Corsica being painted Italian green - so I went on and redrawed the entire map.

Territory Diagram
I wonder why VDip is not using Territory Diagram to reveal the dinamics of territory occupation in time. Now it's working rather good. But for maps with neutrals it still has several bugs. We use this module on Diplomail. Please check: https://ibb.co/mFZF3o

'Edwardian' - A new variant
Greetings diplomats.

I present you @VaeVictis's 'Edwardian' - an upcoming jewel to vDiplomacy's glorious crown. 'Edwardian' is set in 1901, the start of the Edwardian Era, and represents the intrigue and tension of the period with a level of elegance and detail never seen before

Known World 901 question re rebuilt armies
The variant page says that "This map is build anywhere and has neutral standing armies that disband when dislodged, but will be rebuild if the relevant Home Supply Center is vacant and unowned during the build-phase in autumn." but looking at completed games, I don't see the standing armies getting rebuilt. Does this mean I need to always occupy my own SCs in the fall or else they turn back into neutral standing armies? Can someone explain this to me?

Mistake in Known World 901 variant
In "Known World 901" we have Principality of Kiev (short - Russia). But it's a mistake which I have fixed when I did the php-adaptation to Western Known World 901 variant. The power must be called as Kievan Rus (short - Rus). It's not Russia at all. So it must be also fixed in Known World 901 variant I think.

Kaner, I don't want to slow the game, so press on with a sub. I can't start until April 4th. So, please fill mine with a substitute. I will catch the next one. Cheers

@Kaner
Would you be willing to make the Bourse game anon?
How could that possibly work? Would the stock trades be by nation only too?
Technostar (1302 D)
21 Mar 18 UTC
Yes, stock trades would have to be made and reported by nation for an anon game. Since Kaner's the GM, he would be able to see who's who, so you could just PM him your Bourse orders like normal.
kaner406 (2103 D Mod (B))
22 Mar 18 UTC
The only thing at this stage I'm going to consider changing is whether or not to have rulebook press or not. In my mind having no communication in builds and retreats, and only being able to ready orders (no save) should speed up the build/retreats part.of the game (something that was a bit of a sore point in the last game).
Could we get a no process on weekends?
I second the no weekends request.
ubercacher16 (2196 D)
22 Mar 18 UTC
I'll third the no weekends.
Yeah, I think rulebook press makes sense for games with timers longer than a day. It's really noticeable in that three-day-turn Divided States game, being able to *not* ready your builds/retreats really, really drags the game out.
RUFFHAUS 8 (2490 D)
23 Mar 18 UTC
Absent a rock solid promise from all players to ready up retreats and builds I think I should drop out. The three day deadline is insanely long enough on a map that is going to go at least 25 game years. We have seen time and time again that players losing games will drag out retreats to the entire three days. At that pace we will be over a year without any delays, extensions, etc. I'm fine with three days turns, and I could live with no process weekends, but *only * if all 15 players agree to ready up orders or be kicked out of the game for abusing it.
cjuric (1858 D)

I'm in for a game of bourse. Wish you could change the length of each order phase individually like PlayDip but we work with the system we have. I'll endeavor to ready retreats rapidly.
kaner406 (2103 D Mod (B))
23 Mar 18 UTC
The game now has 2-day phases which will be shortened to 24 for retreats and builds when the bourse is published.
I'm out at 2 days unless there is no processing on weekends.
I will ready up builds and retreats.
cjuric (1858 D)

2 days works for me
I'm all for rulebook press and a ready-up policy, but I have to drop out with the 24-hr phases (even @ just builds and retreats), as it will occasionally put me at risk of NMRing. Apologies kaner, I know how difficult it is to put together parameters that work for everyone.
Technostar (1302 D)
23 Mar 18 UTC
I think the best solution is to have longer phases (either 2 days & no processing on weekends or 3 days) and enforce a ready-only policy for builds and retreats (so no entering build orders then unreadying them). Mods are able to force-process a game, so once Kaner has the Bourse results published and all players have orders in, he should force-process the game so we're not stuck for days on a retreat phase. This will give us sufficient time to negotiate, protect against NMRs, and prevent the game from dragging on during the retreat and build phases.
Good with readying up and rulebook. Any negotiation room between the 24 hour retreat/build folks and the 2 day folks eg 36 hour retreat/build phases?
RUFFHAUS 8 (2490 D)
23 Mar 18 UTC
Can't we just compromise at 2 or 3 days and have people agree not to be a delay douche on retreats and builds? If you need the time because you're off on the weekend getting fucked up and playing rock and roll (like Doc), no one cares. Otherwise just ready up and roll on. That way we can have 3 day negotiations without having game years that last up to 15 days.
^What he said.
ubercacher16 (2196 D)

I'm good with anything longer then 24 hours. I will ready retreats and builds unless it is 24 hours.

I’m out at less than 3 day phases for negotiations. I can agree to ready up for builds and retreats, submit to 24-36 hr builds & retreats, rulebook press, and/or Mod enforced retreats/builds timing and all that.
RUFFHAUS 8 (2490 D)
25 Mar 18 UTC
Okay, let's try this another way. It's a special rules game already. We add one more very simple rule. Anyone signing up agree to ready up builds and retreats and not drag out the game for diplomatic, petulant, or strategic reasons. If the GM feels you are doing this, you will be replaced. It's so damn simple. All you need to do is respect the game and your fellow players. You literally have to try to be dick to break this rule, in which case there's really no defense. I'm fine with three hour turns, and a ready up agreement/rule. This kind of behavior should be the norm, and not something we actually have to debate.

Technostar (1302 D)
25 Mar 18 UTC
From what I have seen, the best arrangement (which should work for everyone) is as follows:
3-day phases
Rulebook press
Agree to ready all builds/retreats ASAP and to not unready those orders. GM can force the phase to process if everyone has retreats/builds in but someone has unreadied their orders.

I can also agree to Ruff’s “replace dickhead” rule.

Anonymous Games
Anonymous Games grant liars a shelter to do there worst, making abusive and absurd offered and generally making me passionately hate this game, which can lead to NMRs . Having to be out there means you have to have honor, and enables revenge. I have seen allies pitch in by hopping from one neutral territory to yhe next in the name of their promises. This site seems to be for the childish.
