NWO goes MAD
The current NWO game being run at Redscape incorporated new experimental rules for the nukes: MAD (nuclear strikes can trigger automatic nuclear response). Spring 2005 sees 9 nukes trigger 3 nukes which begat another 3 nukes. Yikes!

Diplomacy Simulator
Hi! I'm new here and I don't know if it was already discussed, but it would be nice to have some sort of simulator to test out moves. Sometimes the rules aren't that easy to apply and it's hard to understand what would happen in a very tricky and unique situation...

diplom.org down?
diplom.org used to be the centre of the online Diplomacy community. Even long past its prime it held tons of interesting resources, variant files, articles, etc. For the last few weeks I haven't had any luck loading the site. Does anybody have any idea what's up?

Luckily, most of it is backed up by the Wayback Machine, hopefully that never disappears: https://web.archive.org/web/20161020130534/http://www.diplom.org/

Some of the variants don't tell you much...
Classic Cataclysm, for instance. It has a home page in Russian and our variant page says nothing. Some one want to enlighten?

Error when clicking on top-level "Games"
Error triggered: Not-paused game process-time values incorrectly set..

This was probably caused by a software bug. The details of this error have been successfully logged and will be attended to by a developer.

Diplomacy Supreme (WWIV Game) software bug
During the procession of moves this morning, the game experienced a software bug and about half an hour later the map came up with the phase length saying "Crashed". Apparently a mod/developer needs to look at it to fix it. Is there someone who can help us out?

For our American friends: Happy Thanksgiving
As a matter of interest did anyone hunt their own bird or game?

Apparently, Australians are celebrating Thanksgiving now. What are we saying thanks for?
For English going over there and the locals giving them a hand.

I know what Thanksgiving is about, but what I don't understand is why Australians would be celebrating it. Did native Americans ever do anything for Australia? I would assume not!
kaner406 (2181 D Mod (B))

I kind of celebrate it because my wife is American and she makes me, but as to Australians at large I don't know anyone out there who celebrates it. For us it's an excuse to get some mates over, play a board game or two, eat a large meal and get pretty drunk.
ScubaSteve (1234 D)

If the large meal is turkey and you would watch some football (of whatever variety) and fight with your family... you've pretty much got Thanksgiving.

Gobble till you wobble!
Historical origins aside, every one can celebrate Thanksgiving. Pick a day of the year to thank God, fate, the flying spaghetti monster, who/whatever for all the blessings life has sent your way over the past year. Thanksgiving is giving thanks for all the good in your life.

On the other hand, unless the government actually allocates a public holiday for it, it's difficult to actually arrange the "whole family meet-ups" that seem to be much of the point.

To that regard, we've already Christmas (two days off consecutively, an additional day off exactly a week after the first, and little enough going on that you can usually get the three intervening work days off if you try) and Easter (guaranteed 4 day weekend, overlapping school holidays if you've children those ages), don't really need another to close out spring...
Actually, Easter is rarely a 4 day weekend. In fact, there is no guarantee that it will be more than Saturday and Sunday. If you are lucky and work for a religious employer, you may get Friday off.

Christmas and New Years are, likewise, not guaranteed more than a day each and some years there is only the weekend in between, so you still have to 4 extra days vacation to get the long holiday.

Plus, not everyone is Christian and wishes to Celebrate Easter and Christmas. Thanksgiving is less one religion and more inclusive as a result.

Was referring to Australia, as most of the previous commenters appeared to have been. Christmas is Christmas Day and Boxing day; if Boxing Day occurs on a Saturday the official holiday is delayed to Monday, while if Christmas is the Sat or Sun, then both the Monday and Tuesday will be public holidays. Boxing Day is what makes the week following/including Christmas a maximum of three days.

Likewise, Easter is a guaranteed 4 day long weekend.

You also don't have to be remotely religious to celebrate public holidays. Even disregarding the fact that the winter (summer) solstice and the full moon following spring (autumn) equinox were celebrations long before any particular religion co-opted them.

(also, stating that you don't need a public holiday set aside to celebrate a specifically North American public holiday, then using the public holidays of a North American nation to dispute alternatives raised, doesn't exactly make much of a point)
Just wanna clarify - what are the public holidays, if any, regarding Thanksgiving in America?
To the best of my knowledge, only Thanksgiving day is the holiday in America, although most business gives Friday too. Of course, all the stores and restaurants are open on Black Friday.

And then there's us up here in Canada, celebrating Thanksgiving on the second Monday of October.

Hey guys! I was wondering if one of the experienced veterans has the time and patience to help me with getting better on these variants. I'm looking for a multi-day variety of two-player games and hopefully I learn how to get better.

Thanks,

Election of a man who has groped women and stiffed workers to be President.
I would suggest that a large part of the reason why Clinton lost is because of her dishonesty, a strong anti-establishment backlash and a perception of personal corruption.

However, I would like us to think about what we have done in electing Trump to be President.

Thank you to all the men and women who served not only on the front line, but back at home as well. They all did us a great service. Let us pay respects to front line soldiers on both sides as they were just men following orders and doing what they could for their country.
