10 Jul 13 UTC [Turan]:Well done, Raro, pretty good deal for a CD takeover!
diatarn, sorry for the stab - I agonized over whether or not I should do it, but figured with 5 builds it was my best opportunity. I immediately regretted it and it ultimately was a major factor in France getting the win.
10 Jul 13 UTC [Byzantinum]:I'm just glad I survived! Long live Byzantium!
10 Jul 13 UTC [India]:EoG from India:
after a difficult start (Arabia and China denied me a build in the 1st year), I recovered with Turanese help. In my first KW901 game (Naturelia Qualia; this was the 2nd) I had seen the potential of the India-Turan alliance, so I was happy to help Turan back. Together, we took out Arabia, China and Srivijaya.
Unfortunately, while I was cracking through Axum, Turan stabbed me. I threw everything I had against him, and was able to stop him. Turan was soon caught between France and me, and started asking for peace. Unfortunately I was angry, and misjudged the situation: I ignored him for at least 1 year too much, making France victory easier.
France/Raro: I agree with Turan. You don't find very often such good CD positions, and you should thank Nidza and MeepMeep who had a wonderful start :-) . But you finished the job, and did it perfectly: I didn't believe you could get so fast to 55.
Turan/DrRecommended: nice alliance, while it lasted (and again, thanks for the help in the first years). I can't deny I hated you for the stab. But I was able to stop you only because of lucky circumstances (look at the autumn 909 moves.. how I kept you out of Annam by sheer luck, and how I got 2 SCs from Axum rather than the 1 I expected), so perhaps I will forgive you ;-). Without your stab we'd probably end up in a 3-way draw.. but I might be guilty of a similar "crime" when I delayed making peace with you.
Axum: thanks for pulling back from me when you got back your SCs, and trying to stop the solo.
Byzantinum: your initial position looks like a nightmare.. so, I think you're right being glad of (almost) surviving
everyone: thanks for a great game!
10 Jul 13 UTC [Spain]:CDs really defined this game for me... Germany CD'd at the very beginning, leaving no opposition to France in Central Europe. So I went for an alliance with this France to head south and attack Wagadu, but I left myself too open, so France stabbed. Then, ironically, just as I was pulling all my forces out of Wagadu to perform a rearguard action against France, wouldn't you know it, France CD'd -- along with Wagadu! I missed a big shot that year. Of course France was in such a great position by that point, he got filled in quickly by someone else. Got frustrated so I just submitted hold orders from then on...
10 Jul 13 UTC [Axum]:I enjoyed the game. I missed a move by accident toward the end and may have done a little to avoid the inevitable if I had remembered to click "Ready". But It was too big a force to fight on my own. Still, its one of my best showings on this board so I am happy. Good luck in your next wars.
10 Jul 13 UTC [France]:EOG France #2
When I saw the available position for France, obviously I had to jump on it, someone was bound to fill it.
With this being build anywhere/transform, it makes it pretty easy to keep momentum once you have it, so I was pretty confident in my ability to drive toward the solo, considering my best skill in this game is tactical mobility. It's talking to people that usually gets me in trouble :)
I was a little surprised to see India fighting against Turan when I was putting so much pressure on him in the north, but when I re-wound the turns, I saw why.
@Turan The stab on India was a gutsy move, and might have worked out OK for you if you had a little more time, and a little more luck. However in hindsight, it probably was a tragic error. But you couldn't have known that India would re-stabilize and France would be taken over by a pretty experienced tactician. After I joined, since you/India were in conflict is exactly why I moved in so fast. By the time the solo became a serious threat, it was too late.
Axum put up a good fight while he could, but in the end just did not have the resources to defend against my full-scale assault. Thanks everybody for a good game.
I just hope everything is OK with MeepMeep, who hasn't logged on the site since the day I took over this game. Hopefully he just lost internet service, or eloped to a far off land with a girl, or was arrested... but hopefully not something worse.
10 Jul 13 UTC [India]:@Turan/France: I looked again at the maps, and I have to agree with Raro: stabbing me was a gutsy decision which went bad because of bad luck. Dr Recommended couldn't predict I'd bounce him in Annam, and that I'd get 3 builds from Axum at the end of 909 (1 more than I expected): put an army in Annam, or give me only 2 builds, and I'm toast. Even so, my position was not good, and there was a ~50% chance I'd go down.
As to MeepMeep, what Raro says is concerning.. let's hope for the better (i.e., the nice girl/boy).
11 Jul 13 UTC [Turan]:Rematch? gameID=15162
11 Jul 13 UTC [Khazaria]:I would but the 40 point bet is too much!
