23 Dec 16 UTC [Khazaria]:Great game! Sorry neighbors for the poor treatment, I played this one pretty aggressively. I took a gamble with the Tamantarka fleet build after 902, hoping Byzantinum would get caught leaning into the Med rather than defending the Euxine Sea (sorry Leif). It worked, and allowed me to gain control of the sea and eventually expand around it. I was fortunate to always have the builds I needed to maintain defense and keep pressure on those around me. I was actively fighting units from France, Denmark, Russia, Germany, Byzantinum, and Arabia over 905-907, and fortunately there was enough fighting between them and others to keep me moving forward. RUFFHAUS, you gave very strong signals for peace in 907, and normally I might have accepted that and focused on other fronts - I did weigh moving on Turan at that time - but I hoped to catch you going the other way. I was guilty of a similar support hold-then-attack ploy with Byzantinum as well. The battle from there was a lot of fun, as Spain's cooperation allowed you to go all-in on defending against me and we struggled to move the line. I managed to secure Scandinavia, but never got more than Borussia and Mazovia from you before Spain stabbed, and only Jelling after. I assumed that my earlier treatment of your peace offer was behind the decision to keep your focus on me as Spain took your centers.

Wagadu attacking Spain helped me secure more spaces in the Eastern Med, but I never expected to really gain anything there, and Wagadu's occasional attempt at Jerusalem - plus my weak spot through Damascus - meant that I had to be cautious and ready for a small retreat if needed.

Finally, Turan. Foxy, I wouldn't have survived my attack on all other neighbors if not for the lasting peace with you, and I never did see the right opportunity to move against you. I expected to fight for a place in a draw that would include you. I tried to gradually beef up my defense without alarming you or causing you to move preemptively, and it was a little dicey at times. I was relieved to see you go at India rather than me, of course. I thought we were doing very well with our border, but I was always worried about your capacity to transform to fleets around Khazar Sea and when Urgench finally did I had to act. At first I meant only to prevent Ghuzz and Ardebil from transforming, but with Wagadu pressuring your other front I figured I'd take what I could for the extra tournament points.

A fun game, particularly the dog fight with RUFF. Very well-played by many, including some that were eliminated.
23 Dec 16 UTC [Wagadu]:This result is very good to me because I don't like to play Wagadu. In my opinion Waga's growing potential is small and almost necessary to fight against Axum and Egypt. I also got quite slow start and it seems almost sure that sooner or later someone bigger come and hit me down.

Bozo, you were my neighbour again. I wasn't as good ally as in game 1 but still good enough that you were able to conquer whole Western Europe. My endgame attacks weren't just 'grab as many supplies as possible'. North Africa was my weakest spot and I really needed better defence position there.

Utom, you didn't play so badly. I had to made some risky moves against you and those worked this time. Seems that I had almost the same neigbours as in game 1.

Doctor, very impressive game, Khazaria and 30 supplies. I tried to take Jerusalem just because you didn't help me to Barca. But well, it was a very minor thing, game was almost over.
24 Dec 16 UTC [Turan]:My plan from the start was to move east and then south, all the while trying to maintain some form of a truce/alliance with Khazaria, and it worked out quite well. I was able to fight basically a one front war for most of the game, and that was a huge advantage for me against China and then Srivjaya as they were fighting 2 front campaigns.

My next target was India, who had built a large navy but had few armies to guard his home centers. I was able to slowly over take him while his fleets kept Wagadu from gaining a foothold in India or the far east. That was key, I became very defensive before Wagadu was in position to attack me.

Doc, I too was looking for the right time to try and move west against you. My regret in this game was that I missed an opportunity earlier while you were engaged with Germany. I think I could have punched through Mosil , but you would have stopped it eventually. My gain would have been minimal. I also had no chance to move west against Wag as he had a definite fleet advantage.
Good game
24 Dec 16 UTC [Germany]:I'm pretty salty with you, Bozo. That was a shitty elimination for a very few gratuitous points. You would have had zero point if I hadn't abandoned all hope for myself to stop the early Khazarian push. Turan was not a power at the time Khazaria was peaking, and had Germany not thrown everything in to stopping him, it was lights out in the east and west. Germany deserved better than to be ground up like hamburger when the game was essentially finished. And an experience player like you should have recognized the message it sends to others when you do this. Why would anyone bother to wheel and stop a solo when you know that this is what is waiting or you in reward. I honestly expected this behavior in the tournament, which is why I pushed so much for unrated games. just not from you. I know that I'm grumpy because I got smoke, but it's really not that. Some game just go that way. This was just ugly unprovoked greed for no chance at victory, and a pittance of points. Even that would be acceptable, but not to a nation that is instrumental in stopping a solo.

I would like a damn game where I don't have to be Bozo's neighbor for a change....

Dr. Recommended I enjoyed the duels for position all game, with both of us getting in some good moves, and great guesses to stop good moves. So even though I'm salty with my western neighbor, I enjoyed play against you. I'd have tried to help you win after jackwagon stabbed me, but that was no longer possible with Turan emergent in the east and Wagadu powerful in the middle and south. I figured I'd play on principle and keep making you work like hell for every inch even as I was being violated by the guy I saved from a loss to solo.

Mapleleaf, I tried to stay with Denmark as long as I could. I treid to communicate supports for the moves tyou needed to make to stop Khazaria, but you were not picking up on my signals through offered supports. At some point I had to gamble that I could do better marshalling fewer overall units against Khazaria, but properly coordinated.

France, it all looks disastrous in hindsight. I guess you're laughing hard at me now. I took a couple early moves as too aggressive, and never looked back. I felt like Germany had to commit to east or west, and once I did, I couldn't change direction. Clearly there were better choices than war with France. You put up a good fight.

Wagadu, nice game again. I couldn't pay too much attention to specifics you way, but you're really grabbing this tourney by the balls. Good stuff.

Leif, I made a cheap steal of a dot off of you at some point, but I needed the build badly, and you looked beaten already. Otherwise I'd have tried to work something out. I wasn't getting friendly vibes from Byzantium though.

See you you fokkers in the next games, save the one donk who NMR'd I guess.
24 Dec 16 UTC [Spain]:I do not disagree with your assessment, and if this were a stand alone rated game, I would not have stabbed you, but there are two reasons why I finally made the decision to move against you.

1. The game is unrated and part of a tournament with SoS scoring. I am not a fan of any scoring system where points are tied to center count in a draw, but SoS scoring takes this to an extreme, resulting in a strong incentive to increase center count. For example, I would have ended with at most 18 centers had I not stabbed you, maybe less since I probably still would have lost MAU, IFR, and CRE. 18^2 = 324 and 27 ^ 2 = 729, so the result was more than just a few points. It does not make it any less greedy, but I was playing to the parameters of the tournament.

2. Wagadu was still expanding and starting to build units along my border. If he moved against me first, I not only would have lost several centers in Africa, but if Khazaria had joined in attacking me in the Med. and also attacked in the north, I was not certain I would be able to maintain stalemate lines against both of them. I probably could have converted my armies to fleets and held them off with 14 to 15 centers, but again, the tournament scoring affected my decision to make the move I did instead. I would be interested to know if Wagadu's move was inevitable, or if he was reacting to my stab. I did vote for a draw as soon as India went to zero, so someone else was holding out looking to make gains somewhere.
24 Dec 16 UTC [Byzantinum]:Doc, your 902 fleet build in Tamantarka really puzzled me as Russia Arabia and Turan were all as occupied elsewhere as I was. True I had one for you could snag with certainty, but I would have thought that the fact that the rest of my SC's were more out of reach would have deterred you. I figured you had your dot and would move on so I was surprised to see the second fleet in 903. 904 I saw coming but I was only ever going to slow you down because I didn't have enough momentum in the south to keep any push going and defend.

RUFF, I thought we had a chance at going into the end of 905, but Doc stacked his builds against you, and then when bozo struck from the west I figured my game was in its death throes. I figured I would stick by you, but you basically invited Doc through your lines and destroyed my attempt to keep him out of the med by supporting him to Thrace in autumn 907. I have no idea what you were thinking at that point (I'm sure you had a reason I just couldn't see it at the time). At that point I decided that I would give up fighting Doc who had simply been just an enemy, and go after you while holding bozo back long enough for me to try to do damage to my traitor former ally Germany. All I managed to do though was throw all my centers to Doc.

Kaner, another good fight between us. I never had the resources to close the deal though, props on outlasting me!
24 Dec 16 UTC [Wagadu]:Bozo: I also did vote for a draw after India was gone. Then you started to get many new builds, Mauretania was empty and you had a capability to convoy more armies to Africa if you want. I just decided to close that door before anything bad happens.
