13 Feb 18 UTC Spring, 2021: (Technostar): Thank you all for signing up for this first run of Divided States! As this is such a large variant, there is always the chance of a missing adjacency or other bug. If you notice anything wrong, be sure to report it so it can be fixed. Good luck and have fun!
13 Feb 18 UTC Spring, 2021: (Cerrynity): Thanks for making it! This looks fun.
13 Feb 18 UTC Spring, 2021: (Captainmeme): HYPE
13 Feb 18 UTC Spring, 2021: (GOD): This gon be gud
13 Feb 18 UTC Spring, 2021: (slypups): Should be interesting - at first glance, the peripheral states seem to have a serious advantage (Alaska, Texas, Florida, Washington, Maine, Hawaii) - any way that this advantage is offset that I'm missing? Or will it be up to the central states to "correct" this balance through early alliances against the otherwise advantaged peripheral players?
13 Feb 18 UTC Spring, 2021: (ScubaSteve): There does seem to be a good number of SCs available for the edge players. Haven't really studied it, though. Even if it isn't fair, its going to be fun. I'm pretty excited. Much more so than a grown man should be about a game.
13 Feb 18 UTC Spring, 2021: (BobRoss): You guys ready to get your quarters squeezed so tight the eagle screams?
13 Feb 18 UTC Spring, 2021: (ScubaSteve): Do I have to pay extra for that?
13 Feb 18 UTC Spring, 2021: (Technostar): @Slypups
I've done what I could to balance out the inherent geographical advantages of peripheral states, though they probably still have an advantage.

Alaska and Hawaii, both off to the west, have a position similar to England. They have the advantage of relative isolation, but it also makes it incredibly tough for them to expand. In addition, the large number of sealanes along their coasts make it easy for a plundering navy to work their way in.

Texas has the difficulty of being very spread-out (especially El Paso), which is made worse by the fact that you need to send extra units to even take advantage of the guarded Mexican centers.

Florida is a bit concerning due to it only having two land neighbors and a 4-center start, but it also touches a whopping four sealanes (more if you count Nassau as core Florida territory), so forget about Florida stalemating its coasts early on.

Finally, Maine was a rather tricky one to make, though it's not particularly isolated on the map. While New Hampshire is the only one to share a land border initially, Vermont is rather likely to pick up SHB, giving them an immediate border with Maine. In addition, the NWA sealane brings Rhode Island quickly to the north. Maine is also hard-pressed to take PEI and SGU, as they are deceptively tricky to get to.

As for Washington, they aren't really isolated. Idaho, Alaska, and Oregon are right on their doorstep.

Of course, the only way to truly figure out how balanced a map as large as this one is is to play it. I only hope that there is no unplayable "North-Africa" lying around.
13 Feb 18 UTC Spring, 2021: (Technostar): Wow, only 4 hours in and the game is already half-full. I can't wait to get this started!
13 Feb 18 UTC Spring, 2021: (IvanWintergreen): The size of this map is insane. I can't wait to try it!
13 Feb 18 UTC Spring, 2021: (G-Man): Beautiful and impressive map Technostar -- you've really gone above and beyond!
14 Feb 18 UTC Spring, 2021: (slypups): Thanks Technostar - really an impressive effort here and meant no criticism of the design by asking about balance. Your thoughts on that are appreciated - those defended centers should slow down some of the peripheral players. Fortunately, even if the balance is unfair, it can be restored with good diplomacy and savvy players as well, but not so much in gunboat (which this game is not, of course). I wonder who has it toughest here - maybe Kentucky or Missouri with 8 neighbors each - that's a lot of relationships to manage. I'm looking forward to trying this. :)
14 Feb 18 UTC Spring, 2021: (Mr. Finkelmuiyer): I might be cackling with glee. Just a little bit.
14 Feb 18 UTC Spring, 2021: (Mr. Finkelmuiyer): Also, Calgary can be reached by Idaho’s northern army in CDA. Is the army there intentional?
14 Feb 18 UTC Spring, 2021: (Technostar): Thanks for pointing that out - the army there is NOT intentional. I must have accidentally included Calgary in the pregame builds file when setting that up. The code fix is just one line, though Oli may have to go into the database to delete the units present there in two games. I'm not entirely sure how the pregame database works.
14 Feb 18 UTC Spring, 2021: (Retillion): Hello, everyone !
14 Feb 18 UTC Spring, 2021: (Technostar): I sent a bug report to Oli and the Mod Forum.
14 Feb 18 UTC Spring, 2021: (tantrumizer): Whoa this game is filling too quickly. I am on only on my phone till next week so I will jump out and join the next one. Looks great.
14 Feb 18 UTC Spring, 2021: (ubercacher16): I can't wait! Thanks Technostar for doing all this work!
