28 Feb 19 UTC Spring, 480 BC.: (KingCyrus): I take issue with the geography in this map, mostly revolving around the main powers. Why is Thebes not a center in Boeotia? Why is Argos not a center in Arcolia? Why does Messena exist? etc.
28 Feb 19 UTC Spring, 480 BC.: (KingOfSwords): It does seem odd that a region so famous for its islands should have almost no island spaces, too.
28 Feb 19 UTC Spring, 480 BC.: (Sky_Hopper): I totally agree... although Abydus, Lesbos, Ionia, Caria, and Rhodes are islands (I think)
28 Feb 19 UTC Spring, 480 BC.: I just looked up the info on Wikipedia. Lesbos and Rhodes are islands, while Abydus, Ionia, and Caria are part of the mainland of Asia Minor. I would guess the islands were drawn this way to avoid a lot of messy land bridges.
28 Feb 19 UTC Spring, 480 BC.: Hello all, just turning to this one. Interesting questions!
28 Feb 19 UTC Spring, 480 BC.: Hello all, just turning to this one. Interesting questions!
28 Feb 19 UTC Spring, 480 BC.: sorry, got to learn to leave the page before a refresh happens (that causes the double message)
01 Mar 19 UTC Spring, 480 BC.: It irks me that it doesn't show the actual connection in Corinth between the seas.
01 Mar 19 UTC Autumn, 480 BC.: I agree.
01 Mar 19 UTC Autumn, 480 BC.: So fun fact, that canal wasn't built until the 19th century. The early Corinthians built a portage road that they charged massive tolls to use, but they basically hoisted ships out of the water and dragged them to the other side. So it is historically accurate not to include a canal.
01 Mar 19 UTC Autumn, 480 BC.: That's a very interesting thing, a fun fact as you say.
Still, the game treats Corinth as having a canal, and I feel that there really should be a graphic representation of that on the map. Just mentioning it in the variant rules doesn't seem like enough.
01 Mar 19 UTC Autumn, 480 BC.: I didn't even realize that until you told me... So yeah, I guess it looks like it should have that.
01 Mar 19 UTC Autumn, 480 BC.: I think the romans unsuccessfully tried to build one... But yes a representation would be helpful
01 Mar 19 UTC Autumn, 480 BC.: But they did have a "track" over the spine, sort of like a railroad track, that they could haul the small vessels of the time over. so it did work as a canal at the time.
03 Mar 19 UTC Autumn, 480 BC.: It wasn't too inefficient -- the whole track was only two miles long from Sinus Corinthicus to Saronieus Sinus.
03 Mar 19 UTC Spring, 479 BC.: Right. I expect its use was more military than for conveying goods fro one side to the other for commerce.
04 Mar 19 UTC Spring, 479 BC.: I mean conveying ships from side to side for commerce, easier to transship goods. But for war, moving ships quite an advantage.
05 Mar 19 UTC Autumn, 479 BC.: It seems we are always waiting on Arcolia for orders... Why not ready up??
13 Mar 19 UTC Autumn, 476 BC.: sorry all, flu bug got me and i missed deadline
13 Mar 19 UTC Autumn, 476 BC.: Get well soon!
