24 Jul 20 UTC Spring, 2020: Fun map with horrible balance. If a game can be won with poland, so it can be with other nations that have perfect eliminated-stats. Still, never want to play poland again.
24 Jul 20 UTC Spring, 2020: Yes, there looks to be some imbalance with the map (if these large variants were play-tested more before release and revised this could be avoided when not intentional), but it looks like there are only a few powers who bear the brunt of this (my apologies in advance to them). But the map and solid use of special rules were too good to pass up (and we hit some imbalanced maps every once in a while, having played South American Supremacy, and even Rinascimento in this series, with this understanding, for example). But like the wild-and-crazy variants we also play from time to time (Fog of War, War in 2020, Viking Diplomacy IV, Germany 1648, Classic - Octopus, Imperium Diplomacy), we only hit them very occasionally, striving for balance and focusing on diplomacy and tactical expertise over circumstance as much as possible.
24 Jul 20 UTC Spring, 2020: The biggest design problems have the nations which start with two centers, and additionally are blessed with a shitty neutral-distribution.

Netherlands, serbia and czechia are quite good. Poland is absolute garbage, and ireland is only marginally better (but for other reasons). Georgia is a mixed bag. If russia is somewhat benign and greece doesnt get trashed by his other neighbors its quite comfy.
24 Jul 20 UTC Spring, 2020: As imbalances become more well-known, sometimes you'll see alliances arise to neutralize those disadvantages. And with some of the top vDip talent playing in this series, I wouldn't be surprised if this happened here. And, as anonymous said, Poland already has one solo under his belt!
24 Jul 20 UTC Spring, 2020: As georgia you can be allied with greece as much as you want. By mapdesign serbia has incentives to contest greek centers. And he is not going to care for georgia's fate initially. You will appear on his radar once conflict with turkey draws closer, by that time it might be too late for you.

Yes poland has one victory, and as the person who played it let me tell you that i would have been totally fucked had i not gotten along with CZ really well. Even ignoring other players, a 1on1 CZvsPL is strongly favoring CZ
24 Jul 20 UTC Spring, 2020: Lmao I was the CZ that game oops
25 Jul 20 UTC Spring, 2020: Having drawn Poland in a gunboat, I much prefer a chance at surviving rather than an outright death sentence.
25 Jul 20 UTC Spring, 2020: I just got absolutely wrecked as Poland. Basically all my neighbors broke their agreements with me. Can't particularly blame them; Poland has a weak starting position and is easy to exploit
25 Jul 20 UTC Spring, 2020: But not this poland. According to the stats poland has no draws, no survivals. If not for the win it would join the ranks of perfect zeroes.
25 Jul 20 UTC Spring, 2020: What are the special rules again?
25 Jul 20 UTC Spring, 2020: See either your invite on the Notices section of the vDip Home Page, or click on the name of the variant above.
25 Jul 20 UTC Spring, 2020: I've never been invited to one of these before. Should be fun.
25 Jul 20 UTC Spring, 2020: I don't mind a variant that is a little unbalanced. I just figure that it is the luck of the draw. These things will balance out over time.
25 Jul 20 UTC Spring, 2020: Sometimes things just dont balance out over time :)
25 Jul 20 UTC Spring, 2020: #facts
25 Jul 20 UTC Spring, 2020: I am allied with a Poland elsewhere right now, he is quite successful so far.
25 Jul 20 UTC Spring, 2020: I'm not saying you can't be successful with poland. I'm saying however that it takes very little to make your start a fucking nightmare
25 Jul 20 UTC Spring, 2020: I’ve seen that too...
25 Jul 20 UTC Spring, 2020: Loving the game name, given that I’m planning to go under the knife for a similar (though less extreme) sterilization procedure within the next few weeks...
