Looking for someone to take over my country (Not in a bad position)
Currently 13/35 countries remain and my country, Brazil, is in 8th place after some set backs with NMRs. Currently allied with the 2nd place country, Argentina, as a fight between the two of us will ultimately be the doom of our existence. Argentina has said that a substitute will not charge the alliance between our two countries.

Reply if interested in taking over.

How do I convert a fleet to an army and the other way? I see people do it, but don't see the option on the dropdowns.

Is there a way I can get email notifications for my campaigns? I haven't gotten any at all, and because of that I've lost several games.

Playtest of variant
Hi! I am trying to organize a playtest of a variant I created with some unique rules that made it not possible to implement on vdiplomacy (yet!). I have called it 'Feudal Diplomacy'. [See below for details!]

I have no motivation to keep playing turns, so I figure I could give my only game to someone who does. Sorry for making a new thread, I couldn't find the game-sitters thread.

1900 for vDip: Progress Report (ongoing)
As mentioned in another thread, I've been working on the code and assets necessary to port Baron M. Powell's variant 1900 to vDip and/or webDip.

In order to keep myself accountable in some fashion to actually complete this task, and not just talk about it, I've created a small project plan where I can mark my progress.

Taking over Civil Disorders should be free of charge
Reasoning: the player who takes over a Civil Disorder is not just putting themself in a precarious position (as they must evaluate everybody's styles and strategies) but they are also saving the game's balance and fun.

In order to reward/incentive people to take more CDs, I believe that making it free of charge (rather than current 50% discount) would be for the best. Thoughts?

Cold War Tournament
I am looking to start a rated Cold War tournament consisting of group and knockout stages. Groups of 4 will face each other twice, once as each country. The top two (or three, pending interest) from each group will move on to the knockout stage, with each matchup lasting two games. Users will play as each country once. If tied 1-1, an additional two games are played until a winner is determined.

Sounds interesting and promising, but most of the most active 1v1 players are signed to webdip's 1v1 tourneys - this is why I step back _at_the_moment_, at least.

I say it is promising because we could open variant specific tournaments for each of all 1v1 balanced maps - three come to my mind: Cold War, America Civil War and Frankland vs Juggernaugt. Of course, FvA and GvI tourneys would be welcome, as well, but, as I wrote above, we can find lots of these in webdip already...

I am not that certain about the unbalance of E*vT and GvR, though from my own experience I'd say England does have a winner set of early game moves, while for the latter the 76.5% unbalance is obvious from 428 recorded games statistics.

Finally, I'd avoid tourneys for the symetric maps, such as Duo and Lepanto, but I could be convinced of the contrary.
Perhaps afterwards we could set up a different tournament, but right now I would like to do a Cold War tournament.

I would also like to do a Colonial 1885 tournament. That variant is great.

I would play a Colonial 1885 tournament if it didn't drag on forever like the known world one.
Lol true.

I'd do one or two day phases. I should point out that I'm just gauging interest at this point, as I am running and playing a WW2 5x5.

Welcome, Aurelian! I'm just gauging interest as of now, so there are plenty of spots. I am willing to start the tournament with any even number of players.

I'm in, if deadlines are 1 day 12 hours (or longer).
In my tournaments, I prefer phases to be 2 days, to allow for players busy IRL to still be able to play.

I will commence a random draw from the random number generator. Numbered 1-8 in order of appearance, the tournament will start after the group's are confirmed. A quick refresh: I will post the schedule on the forum, and the first games will start on Friday. Each player will play NATO and USSR, and once their two games are done, they must wait for all other games to finish. Game results MUST be posted here in the forum with a link to be considered valid.

Thank you for reading my very poorly-worded, clunky block of text.
Due to popular request GAMES WILL BE UNRATED.
The groups are in!

Group A:
Argentinean Empire
Aurelian
Ubercacher16
Mr Shfinkle

Group B:
Maucat
jason4747
Ender
Grahamso1
SCHEDULE: Each team will play once as each country, so you will play each other twice. Games may be played one after the other or both at the same time.

Argentinean Empire vs. Aurelian
Ubercacher16 vs Mr Shfinkle
Maucat vs. jason4747
Ender vs. Grahamso1

Do we the players need to start these, or will the Director? Do we start today (Friday?)
You, the players, need to start them. Yes, please start today if possible. PM your opponent to confirm details. Remember unrated, phases at least 1 day, unrated, and to make sure that you each play both nations once.

2 things:
To clarify, top 2 go through to next round? Will there then be a final group of 4, all play all, or 2 semi finals and a final? I would vote for a final group of 4

Secondly. If the initial groups are like a mini league, why do we need to play extra games if tied 1-1? That adds a lot of time (and a bit boring). Can I suggest 3 points for. 2-0 win, 1 point each for a 1-1 tie and zero for a 0-2 loss. That should work better I think. And actually less likely to have a tie for the playoff spots I think.

Also suggest tie breaker for playoff spots should be the table/points of all games between the 2 (or 3) that are tied. If that is still a tie then head to head decider extra games

I know we are underway (just) but how does that sound?
Maucat (1834 D)
02 Feb 18 UTC
jason4747 I send you the link for the two games and the password.
You DON'T play more than two games after a 1-1 tie except in the knockout stage. Each game is worth the same, so there will be no 3, 1, and 0 points.

In the knockout stage, the top player from Group A will face the bottom from Group B, 2A vs. 3B, 3A vs. 2B, and 4A vs. 1B.
Maucat (1834 D)

Jason4747 why don't you move? There are only 6 hours until the deadline.

After trying three excruciatingly long games of Colonial Diplomacy and seeing its annoying lack of balance by myself, I decided to revive Paul Webb's 'Canton Diplomacy' from the depths of the internet. With Oli's help and blessing we'll be playing it quite soon!
