Live Messaging
A friend of mine and me would like to play a game of diplomacy where all player connect on Facebook or WhatsApp to communicate. We would set up a gunboat game here and then it's a regular game, just by different means of communication. Anyone interested?

Classic Redrawn
I got bothered with some of the historical inaccuracies of the Classic map - like French Corsica being painted Italian green - so I went on and redrawed the entire map.

Territory Diagram
I wonder why VDip is not using Territory Diagram to reveal the dinamics of territory occupation in time. Now it's working rather good. But for maps with neutrals it still has several bugs. We use this module on Diplomail. Please check: https://ibb.co/mFZF3o

'Edwardian' - A new variant
Greetings diplomats.

I present you @VaeVictis's 'Edwardian' - an upcoming jewel to vDiplomacy's glorious crown. 'Edwardian' is set in 1901, the start of the Edwardian Era, and represents the intrigue and tension of the period with a level of elegance and detail never seen before

Known World 901 question re rebuilt armies
The variant page says that "This map is build anywhere and has neutral standing armies that disband when dislodged, but will be rebuild if the relevant Home Supply Center is vacant and unowned during the build-phase in autumn." but looking at completed games, I don't see the standing armies getting rebuilt. Does this mean I need to always occupy my own SCs in the fall or else they turn back into neutral standing armies? Can someone explain this to me?

1898 - Civilization in Diplomacy
Variant "1898" by Randy Davis is very cool. One unit for each power at the start on the classic board.

Mistake in Known World 901 variant
In "Known World 901" we have Principality of Kiev (short - Russia). But it's a mistake which I have fixed when I did the php-adaptation to Western Known World 901 variant. The power must be called as Kievan Rus (short - Rus). It's not Russia at all. So it must be also fixed in Known World 901 variant I think.

New Variants (yup, plural!)
Four new variants, based on Classic, will be coming to vDip!

Some of these were directly taken from the DP Judge. Others were lost in the Variant Bank for a long while.

Anonymous Games
Anonymous Games grant liars a shelter to do there worst, making abusive and absurd offered and generally making me passionately hate this game, which can lead to NMRs . Having to be out there means you have to have honor, and enables revenge. I have seen allies pitch in by hopping from one neutral territory to yhe next in the name of their promises. This site seems to be for the childish.

Replace PPSC with something rank-based?
I've put together a length proposal over on PlayDip to provide a rank-based scoring system for draws that's similar to the Carnage system used in several North American Dip tournaments today.

Strategy - Hold Order
See First Post
ubercacher16 (2169 D)

A wise man once told me that you should always do something with your units even if you don't *need* to.

I have many a time seen players in gunboat games simply order their units to hold. Nothing, just a hold.

My opinion is that if you have a unit which you want to do nothing with and there is another players unit adjacent to that unit you should at least throw a support hold their direction even if it serves absolutely no practical purpose.

The purpose this does serve is basically to "reassure" them that you intend to stay neutral.

You can also attempt a support which actually does something. Support someone somewhere, support to hold a unit that will be attacked, in gunboat all of the these options give the players using them an advantage over those who do not.

Actions speak louder then words. In Diplomacy that is very true. And in Gunboat Diplomacy actions are your only

What if you don't want to Show that you are assuring one neighbour of your presumed peacefulness?

You mean making an assurance to another neighbour that you are not intending to be peaceful with the neighbour who's unit you may or may not be supporting?

In that case yes, holding uselessly my actually be useful.

Yeah, the only time it's worth leaving a unit doing absolutely nothing is to signal "hey, these are stalemate lines, maybe draw now?", mostly for concealed draw games (obviously, only if the unit is not needed to support something as part of said stalemate line).

Otherwise there's always pretty much something it could be doing - even if the random support being offered would not actually accomplish anything should it be accepted.

"Always do something" is a truth. You should always do something with each unit.

Sometimes, "something" is "do a feint move." Sometimes, that feint move is a hold.

Sometimes, "something" is "send a message." Sometimes, that message might be best conveyed by a hold order. For example, Turkey might not want to send a support-hold order to Russia if his intentions is to attack Russia, because it could make other players wary of a juggernaught.

Either way, while the actual order might be a hold, your unit is still doing something. The big mistake is if you order a unit to hold because, you know, whatever, didn't think of it, it's like Friday or something and the sun is shining.

IMHO (ho, ho) The dictum is "Always consider doing something" . All moves should have been thought through ...

Well, consider this:
Spring: France has Spain and Marseilles. Britain has Portugal.
France: A Spa-Por, F Mar HOLD
England: F Por-MAO.
Now if France tries to bounce Spa with Mar and Por, England supports to Spa from Por. In this case France should not hold.

France: A Por sup F Mar-Spasc... why the hell would you bounce?

Holding can send a powerful message in the right contexts.

My favorite move is Turkey's A Smyrna H. It basically sends Italy a big red warning regarding a Lepanto's feasibility, and Armenia/Constantinople are both quite close if you need to send it into action.
Mittag (1396 D)

I guess the problem with the "message by holding" is that a lot of people would not interpret it as a message. A support-move order is a clear message, as is a convoy order. A hold order could just mean that you are stupid. Like, how many of the hold orders ubercacher observered, where actually intentional messages that he interpreted only as that player being stupid?

There is of course a lot of context here. Anon / non-anon; high stakes / low stakes; etc..

Looking for someone to take over my country (Not in a bad position)
Currently 13/35 countries remain and my country, Brazil, is in 8th place after some set backs with NMRs. Currently allied with the 2nd place country, Argentina, as a fight between the two of us will ultimately be the doom of our existence. Argentina has said that a substitute will not charge the alliance between our two countries.

Reply if interested in taking over.
