This is really a message for mods. .. but I am not getting any response in the ModForum. I have been unable to load orders in the above game for a number of days now .. and am receiving increasingly threatening messages about missing turns and a possible ban. I can't communicate with any of the other players in the game. Does anyone know what is going on?

"Theoretical" Game
So there's a map called Fubar (https://vdiplomacy.com/variants.php?variantID=39). Let's say I created a game called "HA! Pranked!" where it was choose your own country (So I choose the big one), and then I make the SC count to win 8 (greater than any other country has, except the big one which starts with 10). 5 other people are foolish enough to join the game. Would I just win automatically then?

Sealanes Question
Say I am in the Sealane territory of X SW, and I’m attacking an adjacent Y sea territory, but the Y itself not Y SW/N etc. And I support myself in, can the Y territory retreat into my exposed X sea territory, despite me attacking from X SW?

Move Didn't Go Through
I was looking for clarification from the Mod team as to why a certain unit was not dislodged in a gunboat game with 1.5 day phases, so I sent a message in the Mod forum yesterday morning. I haven't received a response and the next phase of the game is about to go through. What is the proper action in this situation? Should I vote extend and hope for a last-minute extend? Thanks for advice.

Changes to make PPSC better
Currently, the PPSC system rewards points in a solo. It has a number of perverse effects on gameplay. In the subsequent post(s), I will outline changes that could reform PPSC and reduce its detrimental impact.

Google Translate Game
Hello everyone! I am looking for six other players to join a game of Classic(probably, another variant if more want to play), public press, where every player must send messages after putting them through several other languages and then back into English.

I am open to suggestions on exactly which languages and how many there should be.

copypanther is working for me now(I'm still in China), but I think that Google translate would work better. You can put your messages through more obscure and badly translated languages resulting in crazier translations.

However Copypanther is easier to do, and requires less of an honor system to work.

What do all of you think?

I'd say that CopyPanther would work, but Google Translate would lead to more miscommunications and mistranslations. I also think the if we use Google Translate that we should pick a specific translation process in order to make things easier incase someone replaces someone else.

@Elipticon, agreed.
I think provided folks are happy to go with an agreed process for how we'll do translations eg how many times, rules on which languages you can/can't use etc it will be fine.

As said before it will take more time, but should be more fun and confusing.

I will give a warning in advance though that doing this on your phone may be a pain. I didn't have the Google Translate app at the time and going back and forth between tabs was annoying. Hopefully the app will help and just have to cut and paste once.

I think that if we choose google translate EVERY PERSON should choose their own translation procedure and write it down in the "notes" section but we should not all use the same procedure (That way every person has slight differences in the changes of grammar rather than everybody experiencing the same issues so it becomes easier to figure out what they were trying to say). Maybe have a list of "these languages fuck things up the most so you have to use at least one of them" type thing, too

If we did have a list where we had to choose at least one language, I would add Latin and Somali. Latin is an old language with not many translations of recent things, and Somali is so bad that people started delving into conspiracy theories about Google Translate trying contact us (or something, I can't quite remember.)

I agree with BBQ that not every player should have the same translation procedure otherwise trends may be picked up after several times going through translations.

Perhaps a way to (almost) ensure everyone has a unique set of translations:
-Setup a numbered list of languages (1-XX)
-Each player can use random.org or something similar to generate numbers to correspond to the above list for however many languages we will translate through.
-This should guarantee unique sets outside of the extremely small chance of identical randomization.

If you're wanting to create a list of badly translated languages to ensure everyone has some miscommunication, it could be tweaked some.

Someone put forward a list of languages and everyone else can tweak it and add more.

How many languages should be required for each translation? Also, when I do it I will probably use a different formula each time, although that's not required, would take a really long time.

These are just come to my mind.

I actually find the concept of everyone picks their own translation approach, documents it in Notes to share at the end game, and just go nuts.

But happy to go with whatever rigor people prefer.

We can decide the number of languages we use. Let's say 7different languages and finally English which is 8.

Here is the 2 different possibility we can follow:
1) We can use same languages but different order
2) we can use whatever language we want.

But I think we should agree with the number of languages at least.

I agree with Alakazam, we should agree to the number of languages and have a gentlemen's agreement to use languages that will change the message.

I think seven languages and English is a good number. Each player should choose which languages they use. You can record them in your Notes section if you wish.
Additionally, were we planning for this to be public press or normal type press? I think public press would be fun just to see all the weird translations that happen

By the looks of things, we're probably going to play Aberration V. We'd need 3 more players to vote for 1600 or the Austrian Succession in order to play anything else.

I'll vote for Aberration V as well. Barring a tenth player, that is the variant we will be playing.
Aberration V is fine with me too on the basis of the way we're approaching languages.

Yay. I don't think that Grey Press would be a good idea. Grey Press adds another level of complexity to the game, and we're playing just for fun. I also don't think that Grey Press could be taken advantage of in ways that wouldn't work with normal press.

Looks like it's going to be public press!

@bsiper, I think we shouldn't do grey press to keep the focus of the game on the bad translations.

@Mike, if we were doing private chat that would be the rule, yes.
Agree with ubercacher about not doing grey press for the same reason.

I would've thought if we have private chat, that kind of negates the purpose of public press. Shouldn't the confusion just be all out there in the public sphere?

Public Press, 2 day phases, non-anon, unrated, hidden draw votes, Aberration V. I'm going to set 1 excused missed turn and "always reset the deadline." As this is a special rule game I don't think there will be many NMRs.

I am going to moderate the game so I can write a description. I will also set the joining period to 10 days and "start when the period expires." I want to wait the full 10 days so that I will be back in countries with Google when the game starts.

I will send link and password to everyone shortly.

Update Nexus Cold War tournament
For who wants to know: 47 participants joined and were seeded in both brackets (called east and west) so everybody has two chances to reach the final. (and if the semi's have the same people in it we go straight to the final)

Small improvement to the chat interface...
In an attempt to clear the chatinterface a bit I changed the tabs.
It now shows the countries you have sent or received messages by default, and groups all other in a new selector.

Decompressive Backseat Orchidectomy Restart

Conceding/Withdrawing from a game
Sorry if this is a well-flogged dead horse, but I've looked in the 'Help' section and can't seem to find an answer to this. Is it possible to concede a game - I don't mean voting for a concede result, but for a player to unilaterally withdraw from the game deliberately?

Why can't you view anything besides the public chat in archives?
Look I understand why you can't watch it during the game, since you could Pm players the details, but after a game has ended, I want to be able to view alliances, deals, and other things that you just couldn't see in the normal chat.

Manifest Destiny map issue
There seems to be a mistake in the Manifest Destiny map (fleets can move between one particular sea region and an inland region, which isn’t documented as being intentional and seems to just be a problem). Is the forum the right place to report these sorts of issues?

Why would people replace someone when they’re about to be eliminated, with games with a bet of 15 or such? Wouldn’t they just be losing their 15 points?

1 SC, 0 units: a bug with the new system
Currently, I'm playing in a game where I currently have 1 SC and 0 units because my only unit was forced to disband. However, an interesting bug occurs, because the Save/Ready buttons still appear at the bottom of the screen, with no orders listed above them. Can someone fix this?
