Sandboxes
Is there a way to create sandboxes similar to the system used on backstabbr.com here?

Thanks!

Little League vDip Game
In deliberate, though non-antagonistic, contrast to Amby's thread (and to get other people about thinking about making other threads for other bands), let's have a game for folks in the 500-1k vDip points range.

To keep things quick, let's grab the first seven folks and play a non-anon game of classic, with full press and 36-hour phases.

Bug on Mongolian
Fleets in Adaman Sea are unable to convoy armies to Siam.

Players of "Make war, not love" please either pause, draw or cancel because this bug has affected my plans twice in this game.

strategy/tactics guides for non classic variants?
Do any exist?

I've got a lot of spare time these days and I was looking up articles on the internet on strategy and tactics for diplomacy. There are thousands of articles that deal with the classical variant but none at all that I could find that deal with any of the other variants. I'm guessing that they just haven't been around long enough for the "experts" to write anything about them. If anyone has a useful link dealing with this topic then please post it below.

To my knowledge, most of those articles were written by face-to-face and old postal hobby players who have probably only ever played the classic variant (not technically a variant, but the original version of the game) and consider variants to be impure forms of the game. However, it is true that only when diplomacy went online has there even been the option to really play-test and develop a variant well, so the "it's just too new" theory could hold some weight.

However, many articles, such as those about negotiation, are applicable to any variant. Likewise, the flow of the classic map can be applied to many other variants because they are often based on it (why do you think there are so many seven player variants?). So maybe the existing articles are still helpful?

But none of this should stop there from being literature on other variants. Perhaps theoretical guides on large variants? Small variants? More specific pieces on the most popular variants? 1v1 tactics? There are countless subjects that are as of yet untapped (to my knowledge at least). And maybe vDip could be the place for that?

I know Enriador has written strategy about Canton in Diplomacy World. I've also read stuff on 1900 and Ancient Mediterranean. The real issue is that there isn't a place on the web that is a repository for all of the information that is produced. A library as such. Everything is just scattered.

i know of a blog who has some articles on 1v1 variants of France vs Austria and Germany vs Italy: https://captainmeme.wordpress.com/

as someone who has played these variants a fair amount, i think the articles don't go into enough details

You'll find articles on Diplomacy (valid for any variant) on the blog brotherbored.com

Check the series "why did I get backstabbed?" (five articles) and "diplomacy is like onions" (three layers)

Variants and Copyright
I've seen some other sites have Game of Throne and Lord of the Ring Diplomacy variants. Is there a particular reason why vDip doesn't? I know in the past postal zine there were even Star Wars and Star Trek ones. Is this a copyright issue or just no one has put one together?

Classic- Caspian Variant?
Now I don't know how to code or make maps, so I likely can't do this, but I do think it would be entertaining for someone to create a map based upon this discussion (http://www.diplomacy-archive.com/resources/humour/coast_moscow.htm) where Moscow can build fleets and have them move through Sev (perhaps by means of the Volga-Don Canal?)

Interesting map to be developed as WebDiplomacy-map. Of course balance-fix and terretory-changes to the map are to be done.

Variants to Port to webDip
I won Zultar's (webDip co-owner) New Year's prize, which is getting to pick three variants, of which they'll pick one (if possible) to port over. I don't play many variants, so I'm asking the experts:
What are three popular, stable variants that don't have much—if anything, in terms of special rules, (basically nothing that involves messing with the adjudicator, since it is a big, scary, complex bit of code)—that you would want to see included on webDiplomacy.net?

Appears to be allowed, although it really shouldn't be
Apparently, if you take over a country in CD in one game, then CD yourself, you can later take over a different CD'd country in the same game. Perhaps this should be disallowed? I'd like to hear everyone's thoughts.

instructions for entering orders
We have many players in our game who are familiar with Diplomacy but new to vDiplomacy or web-based Diplomacy in general. Is there a guide somewhere for how to enter orders on vDiplomacy and how to check that they have been understood by the adjudicator?

Saga of the Nine (r2) Recruiting (Discord game)
Last year, we held the first playtest of new variant "Saga of the Nine" on Discord, using the PlayDip forums as a permanent hosting site. "Saga of the Nine" is an alt-history alt-geography variant for nine players based loosely on Norse mythology.

My co-designer, Aeschines, is running round two, and we're recruiting for it now. Details to follow in this thread.
