Concede vs. Draw
Apologies if this question has been asked before, but I can't find a clear answer. In my current game, most everyone has voted to Concede as a 3-team alliance is clearly in position to win. However, my understanding is Concede only gives points to one player that doesn't vote concede. Now that everyone else has voted concede, could the 3 of us that haven't vote draw and split the pot 3-ways? Or is a draw between all teams left only and if want a 3-way draw we have to fight until the end?

That's a really interesting question, and if it doesn't work out like you said, that would be a cool feature to implement.

So we really only have 2 options? Concede and pick 1 random part of alliance to be winner or Draw and split pot 9 ways despite clear victory by 3 of us?

Hi SlawDawg -

Your understand of Concede is correct. It only works if everyone except one person votes Concede. At that time, that player is declared the winner.

Otherwise, your choices are:
1) Everyone votes draw and whoever is alive is part of the draw.
2) Continue the game

Interesting indeed. I remember such situations in FTF games, the survivors that accepted losing conceded to a winning alliance.

That's an advantage of FTF games, or of PBEM games with a human GM, that people can work out an unusual result like this.

I would dislike that feature. Games should be played out until the end. A seemingly clear 3-way draw may suddenly change into a solo threat.

Agree with Mercy. This situation is unusual; usually it takes just a few turns to eliminate anyone who might want to concede anyway. And even when this does happen, 3-way draws are often unbalanced and someone goes for a solo. You should have only 3 options: concede a solo to someone, draw for everyone alive to share the points, or continue.

I hear you guys. Our 3-way alliance has gone to great pains to keep ourselves balances to prevent a solo. I currently have a very slight 2 SC lead over my allies. I'd be open to continuing to only 1, but I think the other players are burned out after we had one player sort of abandon game and purposefully drawing out each turn now. He refuses to ever hit ready. It's kind of killed the game. We most likely will just do a draw once he is dead after our current turn, but wanted to confirm options.

In the ken lowe judge pbem, there was a specific setting for. The default was DIAS (draw includes all survivors). In game creation, it could be set no NoDias.

So it still can be a feature for implementation. We don't have to have 100% agreement. Think of ppsc... the same... you just don't play the games set the way you don't wanna play.

You should finish the game. If you can get a solo, I'd say go for it, but since you can eliminate those other survivors and get to the 3-way and if that's your true end game do it. It obviously depends on the variant, but a 3 way draw means you couldn't beat two people. 3/7 is eh, 3/15 is better, and 3/50 is pretty good.

A draw including all survivors only makes sense to me. If power (d) still has a chance at influencing (b) and (c) to attack (a), then the game is still afoot.
Hey, if you have a slight advantage, perhaps expand it and solo. That would certainly finish the game. Especially if some of the other 2 in the power alliance are tired, you can get the jump on them
Or they make start fighting each other, too.

Star Trek Diplomacy
So I came across this over at Diplomatic Corp which has run this variant: http://www.dipwiki.com/index.php?title=Star_Trek and the creator's page with all the files: http://mainecav.org/diplomacy/

Is this something that is this not available for fear of copyright infringement on vDip? I'm not well versed, but I know this is a deep history in fantasy zines in Diplomacy's history.

Civil Disorder but can't replace player?
Sorry if this has been asked before, but I can't find it using the search.

I'm in a game with friends/co-workers and one guy quit the game. We waited the 48 hours for him to go into civil disorder, which he did, but the game isn't letting us replace him. Is it because the game is private? We have a replacement ready to go, but our former co-worker isn't answering his email and we aren't sure what we can do to not have to wait 24 hours each turn to get the game moving.

New Variant in development: Brazilian - Classic
My grandfather recently died and as I went through his things I found a prototype for a Diplomacy bootleg. He used to work in import/export in South America so maybe it was related to that. In his honor I am working to digitize the variant. Here is a preview image:

Variant development questions (Scottish_Clan_Wars)
Hi, I've looked at Spain in the classic map, and there are three territories: Spain, Spain (NC), and Spain (SC). The first has only land-links and the latter two have only sea/boat-links. I've recreated this in my map, but I don't think it's formatting the same as Spain in the classic map. How do I make a North/South coast divide?

Maybe we should switch to phpBB..?
As the our current forum has it's limitations (no subforums, no search) I'm thinking about switching to phpBB (like on webdip).
Are there any objections, things to keep in mind?

Forming Games: Number of Players Needed
Forming games used to include a status line that said something like "X players out of Y still needed". Why did this message go away? I thought it was a useful indication of how close a game was either to starting, or to being cancelled due to not enough players signing up.

Little League vDip Game
In deliberate, though non-antagonistic, contrast to Amby's thread (and to get other people about thinking about making other threads for other bands), let's have a game for folks in the 500-1k vDip points range.

To keep things quick, let's grab the first seven folks and play a non-anon game of classic, with full press and 36-hour phases.
