Divided States Team Game
Hey guys! Back in the day, we used to do a lot of team games on here(chaos map, classic, etc). Im curious if people would be interested in doing a team game of the divided states map... Yes, I know, 50 people is a LOT to get for a team game. Here is how it would work.

- Teams would be randomly assigned via a random generator I will use. Then they would be re balanced if needed(like if 1 team completely surrounded a single player, or other obvious complications).
- Last team standing wins. even if only one member of that team is alive, they still win.
- Teaming up with other teams is allowed, but draws are ONLY allowed in the event of a stalemate(except between 1 team once they are the last team standing). This means that 2 teams could potentially partner up all the way to the last 2 teams standing, but they cannot draw unless it is a stalemate. there should also be no intentional stalemates(a.k.a 2 teams purposely stalemating as they go so that they can say "oh we have to draw" to get around this rule).
- There will be 11 teams of 4, and 2 teams of 3(this numbers disadvantage will of course be taken into consideration with the re balancing of teams)
- Win condition will be set to all centers that way nobody accidentally solos
- Questions/concerns/suggestions are welcome.

Suggestion: You make teams that you believe are balanced beforehand as opposed to random generation in the first place.

It could work with generation and then rebalancing but equally you might as well just start in a good place, although I can see how the random element could be fun. That being said, randomness has never been something Diplomacy involves.

Its just a suggestion, and I've never played this map (I'm going to play as Connecticut in one coming up) but I think it would workout. Depending on how this upcoming game goes, I might be interested to join a team game

You do bring up a good point. In the past we did random assignments, but with 50 different states it might make more sense to just kind of sort out the teams by hand to be balanced. Ill look into that.

From playing in the ER team game - I definitely agree that you need to pre-seed the teams rather than do it entirely randomly.

Being 'on a team' with someone halfway across the map doesn't help either of you and just results in a position where you get to midgame and it's no longer a 'team' game just a 'you can't hit draw lol' game since every team only has 1-2 people alive.

@Mouse and CYFI- That is definitely something I am going to look at. the advantages and disadvantages of putting entire teams right next to each other, versus spread out some. for example-
Close together= better cooperation, but if someone ends up in the corner, they become basically useless to the team.
Spread out= harder to cooperate and less "team" work, but harder to become boxed in.

it could be fun (though possibly unfeasible) to have teams based on color. It wouldn't be perfectly balanced, but it would be fun to see an endgame that is completely red/pink, or completely blue, etc.

I'm a fan of pre-selected teams, maybe not completely neighbors, but maybe guarantee at least one regional neighbor per player. Teams of three could all be close together but not as close as a pair would be?

Listing pronouns
One of the pitfalls of online Diplomacy I fall into is that I often don't know the genders of my fellow players and get the pronouns wrong. As far as I'm aware, the site doesn't yet have a feature for us to list the pronouns we use. Maybe we could all start listing the pronouns we use in our profile quotes to cut down on the confusion and ambiguity? I went ahead and put mine there.
