Scoring
Game in question is here: https://vdiplomacy.com/board.php?gameID=62071
I'm quite surprised to see defeated powers gaining points. I'm sure it's a product of a highly ranked player being in a game with a few very low ranked players, but I was not aware that it was possible to gain points at all for being defeated.

This is...intentional, right?

Attention players in southern Queensland
The Mods have received a request to extend games for a player in Brisbane due to possible interruptions of power and internet as a result of a major weather event. If you are in the Brisbane or Gold Coast areas and fear having such issues, we can provide an accommodation, but you will need to message through the Mod Forum and you will need to provide a list of your active games.

About Napoleonic variant
The Napoleonic variant has a very nice map and good historic period to play. But I think Firehawk killed his variant with the no-neutrals feature. Maybe we should ask him to release the alternative version of his variant about Napoleonic wars but with neutrals (occupied by units or not) and with for-Of-War map-feature (or without).
I'm sure the Napoleonic 2.0 variant will be more popular that its basic version.

Join me in setting up a Washington, DC Diplomacy group!
There is a local Diplomacy group in the DC Metro Area called the Potomac Tea and Knife Society (PTKS), but it is slowly dying out, so much so that the group has hosted almost no in-person games at all over the last six years, and even before that rarely met anywhere Metro-accessible. The old organizers are about to lose access to their Meetup group, which will be deleted if somebody doesn't step up and claim the group before the 27th.

Order and Retreat Deadlines
Is it possible to implement a separate deadline for Retreats? I am currently in a game with one-week-per-turn deadlines, which applies globally to every set of Orders which needs to be entered. This makes it so that, if only one country has Retreats to enter, the entire game is waiting up to a week for that single player.

I am suggesting that we be given the option, when making a new game, of setting a shorter deadline for Retreats, and choosing whether Retreats happen within the standard turn schedule or in addition to it. Thus, for a game that resolves every Saturday, players would currently have a minimum of about seven days to write their Orders or Retreats. With the system I am proposing, we could specify:

(1) Resolves every Saturday, Retreat deadline 48 hours (inclusive), such that Orders are resolved Day 1, Retreats are resolved Day 3, and Orders are resolved again Day 8;
(2) Resolves every Saturday, Retreat deadline 48 hours (exclusive), such that Orders are resolved Day 1, Retreats are resolved Day 3, and Orders are resolved again Day 15.

I hope what I am saying is clear; I had to look at a calendar to make sure the numbers worked properly. I am happy to discuss further if this is something that is possible to implement, but I am also fully prepared to hear that doing this is non-trivial and that it simply won't happen.

I also realize that this is something of an edge case that can be fixed by player discipline. But, if the schedule can be used to guide player behavior organically, that would be preferable in many instances to having to individually chase people down.

Backstabbr has that option. I don't know the code needed to change it on the back end. It would be a useful option for a lot of situations.

Our sister/parent website webDiplomacy has this feature (although webDip appears to be down, right now).

Yeah, so webDip lets you set a second phase length (if you want) for "How long retreat and build phases, and grace periods for missed turns will last."

So the code already exists for something similar to what is proposed here. But there haven't been changes to the code here recently, I think? The site admin is a bit absent and the volunteer admin team has only recently figured out how to add new variants in the absence of the site admin.

Interesting! I don't have a lot of background in such things, but I might know people who do and who could potentially help. Foolish question, maybe, but who should I talk to about volunteering?

I’m pretty sure the code diverged from webdip long before the change was made there
