Diplomacy Variant Creation

So I've been in the process of making a Diplomacy Variant. I plan to take the "Europa Renovatio" map and update and expand it. (What I mean to say is, because it's a translation of the EU4 map, it's gone out of date since then.)

FAQ Contacting Moderators

Is the FAQ up to date? Im not sure what this is talking about. Did you just copy and paste this from webdip? One answer talks about the forum as if it’s been switched to a category format, which I know happened at webdip years ago clearly not here unless you switched back.

impossible draw?

How do you achieve a 3-way draw in a game with 85 SC and a solo threshold of 26? This has happened twice in the "Vikings" variant, according to the stats page. https://www.vdiplomacy.net/variants.php?variantID=63

Activating Flowery War

Flowery War seems to be set up as map 150, but not able to be played, while the variant next numbered, Europa Renovatio, is playable. Why is that?

The Treaty of Verdun

I've heard that it is incredibly hard to make a good map for around three players for instance, the 1066 makes the Norwegians so powerful but somehow the 843: Treaty of Verdun seems like it is almost perfectly balanced. How is this possible? Looking at the map it is quite hard to see symmetry but yet it still works. What makes the Treaty of Verdun different?

Support from-to option instead of support to-from

Hi! I used to play tabletop and just recently discovered variants, now playing on vDiplomacy and I have a trouble with Support orders. I misplayed few times because I'm used to write support orders noting From first, and To last. I hope for that option in settings.

Cheating Issues?

I noticed an influx of banned accounts for multi accounting (thomas vink afaik?). I'm just curious; how did the moderators figure it out?

I've seen my fair share of banned individuals due to being stupid (rage quitting multiple games and griefing every game they join), but multi accounting or cheating in general is probably the worst offense there is. But I am extremely curious because, looking at thomas vink's games, it didn't look like he was multi accounting. Or at the very least, it didn't look like he was doing a good job at cheating, considering he still loses. How did the mods figure it out? /g

We have tools that allow us to catch multiaccounters. We try not to advertise them to keep people from trying to figure out ways around them.

I honestly think that multi accounts more often than not aren't as helpful as you would think. Because if one power isn't enough to give you a shot, two powers also won't be enough.

Enough or not enough does not matter. What matter is that multies destroy the game for everyone else. Thanks to the mods to clear them out.

Don't get me wrong, I am thankful that the mods are protecting fairness here. I'm just saying that someone who feels the need to cheat is likely not very good.

I think 4 player maps aren't guaranteed for cheaters because an alliance of two decent players is better than one bad player controlling 2 countries. This logic likely applies to other boards too.

4 player maps aren't guaranteed but they are extremely embarrassing still, especially if it's gunboat. It boils down to a 2v1v1 with a chance to be 2v2, and you're still supposedly in an advantage anyways

I wish to come back to the game where Thomas vink played.
Both the current loosers England and Germany ( me) feel that the game should be cancelled. Austria was the first victim and might not have had the chance to complain.
Will the moderator look into that ?

I see this game has been cancelled. I had voted for cancel as well, but I think other players didn't.
I was Russia. Too bad, I would have gotten so much points ahah, and the game just started to be interesting. I'm sad we can't see who was in this game and do an after action report (the game completely disappeared).

It looks like they started as only 2 powers and then took a 3rd one when someone dropped out. Looking through their game history, it seems like they did that a lot.

Use the "mute thread" feature. It takes 30 seconds and the offending threads are gone

You can also mute all messages from the spambot sender. Works better for threads the bot piggybacked onto (like Advertise your NON-live games)

That's just putting a band aid on tbe problem, like waiting for the mods to delete the threads and ban the person. But if spam is to be prevented, then those 30 seconds would be spared

JECE, I haven't noticed that, but I guess it's possible. I've muted a very large number of spam threads and my pages still load pretty quickly as far as I can tell.

Coffee: Yes, it's not the perfect solution. But it's better than waiting for the mods. You can do it yourself, immediately, and the threads are gone. Maybe a gauze patch with antibiotic cream? :D

Does vDip send e.g. email notifications?

Does vDip send notifications, for example by email? I am in my first game on vDip, and coming from Backstabbr, the ability to get notifications to my email about press, game phases, etc would be extremely convenient.
