Crashed games
In the "new games" section, there are countless crashed games, going so far, that most games are crashed games. For some reason this always bothers me. Can someone therefore please delete them?

Oli won.
On Imperial Civilization's off-topic thread (link inside), there was a brief stint of Second to Last Person to Post Wins. Now that the thread is closed, Oli won.

Why did my rating go down?
I joined a PPSC game that was nearly over, and ended with 3 supply centers. Since I bet none, why did my rating go down? Shouldn't it go up, since I won 3 points but paid 0 to enter?

Rating issues
Is anyone else having issues with rating? I just finished a game on Empires and Coalitions and dropped 150 points despite being part of a 4-way draw. Would love to hear if this is just a me problem, or if other people are experiencing this.

Advertise your NON-live games here!
In an effort to compromise the pro-ads versus anti-ads for games: Post here for your non-live games to cut down on the number of ads but still advertise games. Post game link, WTA or PPSC, and the bet. Note: this doesn't count for special rules games.

Europa Renavito team game but color coded
Call me crazy, but I have an idea. Ive seen team games done on this map before and they are pretty fun. So I thought up a unique twist to it, all the teams are color coded! (Mostly)

So i went and spent an hour putting together a rough idea to what it could be. 6 teams, relatively evenly spread out, and coded to colors with a few exceptions. Afterall where do you put Morocco the only orange country?

Higher Rated Games
I'm curious if anyone would want to run some games through this thread of people with higher ratings? There's no real way to screen for it on anonymous games, and I feel like it would make for generally better games.

If this is against some sort of equal play law on this site, no worries at all, just wanted to see if there was any interest, and if so, what maps people wanted?

The normal way to limit normal public games for only high ranked people is to just give it a large buy in, which usually correlates but not always. Can also do a private game where you dm high rated people to ask them to join

Seems that if you send a link that is for an anonymous game, then your ID is also Anon. 0.0
Not trying to police it too much, just hoping to get people who have experience and are going to play.

That makes sense Specialweek, thanks for letting me know :)

By the way, once I have joined in a sequence of games that 7 players playing 7 classic games at the same time, with everyone played every country exactly once. Maybe you can also arrange such a series of games. :)
(Not must be classic, but also other variants as you wish)

Ironically, I would have joined except for the high buy-in because I don't want a single game to count as much as 8 'normal' games in my numbers. In fact, wouldn't people who play high buy-in games tend to have inaccurate ratings, as a high rating could be the result of a very small number of wins, but just with big pots?

Maybe setting Reliability to 90%+ and minimum phases to 600+ would be a better metric for solid players? But it's all good. Online Dip will never be an exact science :)

The points for buy ins, "webDiplomacy points" are not the same points for rating "vDiplomacy points". Generally highly rated players will have a lot of webdip points just cause they've played a bunch and won more, but you can have some people who have won huge pots but not much so have a lot of webdip points but not much vdip points and a relatively low rating. (Fun fact which nation a person is given is generally selected by webdip point amount minus nations youve already been, in the order the map has things set. Fifty States happens to have things be geographically ordered unlike most for some reason which causes all the good players to be put in the northeast, most of the time.)

I don't think the point pool from the buy in counts towards the match value that is used in determining how much rating one gets/loses when a game ends but that's the one value I don't quite know how it works (other than more players = higher match value)
Oooh, very interesting, I never realized that D-points and V-points are two completely separate things. I always thought that the bet made with D-points was used to calculate the final gain of V-points.

And I just found that when a ranked game is finished, one can click on the V-points gain or loss at the bottom of the game page (to the right of the countries and names), and it opens a page where it is explained how the score was calculated.

This is logical and makes sense, but honestly it's not clear on the website. It's not really explained anywhere, and the page I just found is hidden. High bet games are very rare, probably because people are reluctant to play in a game that they think may reduce their V-rating a lot. And so we all have hundreds of D-points, but this is useless because all games have ~5 D-points bets ahah. I wish the Rating Requirements when creating a game would also include a real Min V-points Requirement.

Thank you for your illuminating remarks, Orange. Now I am only going to create huge bet games and see what happens.

Surprised people don't know that they are different, if you check your profile you can see the two being separate, but I guess it's understandable to confuse them and think your rating points are what you're spending. But yeah, if your rating is higher than ~1300 you probably have more webdip points than you know how to deal with. Like I'm sitting on about 1.7k what am I gonna do with 1.7k

@Orange: Interesting, the country assignment is not true random...
Well, my first sentence was a bit confusing, I knew that D-points and V-points were two separate numbers, but I always thought the amount of D-points that I bet to enter a game had a direct influence on the final gain/loss of V-points. And I believe many people think the same, which is why (to some extent) there are so few high bet games. :/
Sacred Digits (1539 D)
Thu 05 Mar UTC
Yeah, you know, I didn't know that it wasn't true random, but that makes sense because a recently banned multi seemed to get powers near each other in games, with this explanation of how the game decides, that makes sense.

@Jean_Henri, I think you will find it's hard to fill huge bet games. It's already not so easy to fill a game with your desired variant, phase length, WTA vs. PPSC, etc. Making the bet size huge is just another obstacle for some subset of the potential player pool. The goal might be to exclude new players, or low-reliability players, but the effect will be much wider, I expect.

Indeed, because as I said I think many people don't know how D-points and V-points really work (based only my experience though). Let's change the mentalities!
Otherwise, the D-points system is completely useless. For example, according to the site rules, it is impossible to go below 100 D-points. Then, it doesn't make a lot of sense to bet only ~5 points (as it is the case in most games).

How to report cheating ?
In one of my games, I suspect that two players may be friends or even the same person. Their site registration dates are identical, and they have played the same three games together. How can I report this?

I Ranked All The Variants
I thought it would be interesting to compare each map, so I wrote some code, based on the best country's performance minus the worst country's performance, then the biggest difference is ranked lower, while a smaller difference is ranked higher. I spent too much time on it, and now I have a list, check it out!

Diplomacy Variant Creation
So I've been in the process of making a Diplomacy Variant. I plan to take the "Europa Renovatio" map and update and expand it. (What I mean to say is, because it's a translation of the EU4 map, it's gone out of date since then.)

About the Colonial 1885 version
Due to the map info it says that the Caspian Sea is a passible place, so it seems that the only possible case is that Russia build a fleet at Orenburg and move it into the Caspian sea. But have anyone ever seen a fleet there? Just curious.

I know we arent supposed to talk about ongoing games really, but since this game is a gun boat, this is the only way to do so. Anyways someone made a gunboat game with 1 hour turns... if your in it please vote cancel, cause we all have to sleep eventually right? And once we do, we'll get booted from the game

The Treaty of Verdun
I've heard that it is incredibly hard to make a good map for around three players for instance, the 1066 makes the Norwegians so powerful but somehow the 843: Treaty of Verdun seems like it is almost perfectly balanced. How is this possible? Looking at the map it is quite hard to see symmetry but yet it still works. What makes the Treaty of Verdun different?

Missing/Lost Three Kingdoms Map?
According to the Wikipedia page for Diplomacy, there was supposedly a variant called "Diplomacy of the Three Kingdoms". Based on the Three Kingdoms in Ancient China, it was created by Edi Birsan to introduce the basic ideas of the main game to a Chinese audience with a setting more close to their own historical experience. I can't find this game online, and the map isn't on this site. I was wondering if anyone knew where I could play it!

Game Limits and Hot Join
Hello all,
I am new to the platform but I long time Diplomacy Enjoyer. I noticed that I can only join 2 new games having played less than 20 phases. But there does not seem to be a limit to the number of open positions I am allowed to join. Is this intentional?
I appreciate the opportunity to join more games and increase my phases played, but I want to know if I will be able to join more new games once I reach the 20 phase count. Any insight would be appreciated.
