IA map issue with English Channel
In the variant World War II, I never seem to be able to move to the English Channel using the IA interface, when I press the space it simply says something about the North Sea being not adjacent to the original position of the unit. It's never came up with any other location. Is this a common issue, or is it just me (I'll message the mods either way, just to get a sense of what might be going on here)?

What's the point in muting a nation in non-anon if the mods will let the player PM you?
A player PMed me after I muted his nation and the mods said it's not against the rules. It would seem to me to violate the intent of the press rules if not the letter. I have since muted the player for the rest of the game but that was not my desire.

Known World Tournament
Awhile back, kaner proposed a Known World gunboat tournament in which 15 participants would play 15 games, one with each nation. I searched back for the thread, then just decided to start a new one. I want to see if there would be sufficient interest in this to try to get it off the ground.

Obscure group of vDip folks who love History podcasts
Ok I was just starting to pull together the files for the latest Diplomacy Games episode and was chilling to the theme song from the podcast History on Fire: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nOr0na6mKJQ ...
And it got me thinking if there are any other history podcast nerds out there interested in doing a muti-part "tourney" for lack of a better word based existing vDip games and something like History on Fire, Dan Carlin's Hardcore History, History of Rome/Revolutions, History of England etc.

Anyone interested? Or have I just been drinking too much red wine this evening?
Strider (1604 D)

Maybe to much red wine. Have you see horrible histories... Or better yet drunken histories? Both have a good take for light hearted somewhat factual romp through history. Or do you want to invent the wheel focused more on battles that map to variants?

Strider <shakes head> you can never have too much wine. I was thinking along the line of games that draw parallels with episodes/series in the above podcasts that I'm a sucker for and enjoy.

I'm familiar with Horrible Histories (from when my son was younger) & Drunken History, but was ideally looking for kindred spirits in the history podcast realm of vDip.

+1 for "you can never have too much wine", amen!

interested in listening to one, or creating one, or whats the deal?
@GOD - are you talking about a game based on what I suggested (Dip game... not drinking game) or history podcasts?

I am very much a history history podcast nerd.

So.. what are your game parameters?

I'm in. I love history, especially the part about the Germans bombing Pearl Harbor, when Lord Admiral Nelson defeated Napoleon at Waterfalgar Square, and when the Australians attacked them Hapsburgs.

That, my Dip friends is history, American style. That, or like Amby's wine, it's the bourbon talking.
I though that was Trumpstory.

I'm addicted to Dan Carlins podcast Hardcore History. Also there is a Swedish speaking podcast called Historiepodden but since they speak Swedish I guess the follow here is quite small.

I once had conversational Norwegian, but use it or loose it. And I lost it.
Isn't it good Norwegian wood?
Hi guys - its more a case if we can find a few of us who, take for example, all listen to Hardcore History, then playing a series of games based on historical wars covered in the show (provided maps are available)
I don't do podcasts but I do love history and listen to audio books both fictional and factual around military and political history from Rome to early 20th century.

@YCHTT - Bernard Cornwell is one of favourite authors.
I love Richard Sharpe. He is a great character. Although my favorite series are mostly centered around the Royal Navy during the Napoleonic Wars, following Sharpe through India and Spain has provided many hours of both listening and reading pleasure.
@Kaner - Bernard Cornwell is the guy that wrote fiction based on medieval Britain right?
kaner406 (2181 D Mod (B))

And the hundred year war, and the Sharpe novels that YCHTT mentioned. Also a whole heap of other eras.
Yep. His Warlord series portraying a much more realistic Arthur (as warlord and protector to baby Mordred who was his father's son and his half brother) is a very good read as well.
Where would be a good spot to stat with Bernard Cornwell? Ideally I want to read chronologically from a time period to time period perspective. I'm guessing start at the Arthurian works like The Winter King?
The series are unrelated so you might do better to pick a time/subject that interests you. I'm actually reading them in parallel along Dumas' d'Artagnan romances (Three Musketeers is the first of a series), Worall's Charles Edgemont, Stockwin's Thomas Kydd, Russell's Charles Hayden, Pope's Ramage, Kent's Richard Bolitho, Peter's Brother Cadfael (some great 12th century political intrigue between Empress Maud and King Stephen behind the scenes of these murder mysteries), and Forester's Horatio Hornblower. I've already read or listened to all of O'Brian's Captain Jack Aubrey and Dr. Stephen Maturin. I also intersperse a variety of classics like Poe, Dickens, Conan-Doyle, Hugo, Shelley, Stoker, H.G. Wells, Asimov, Clarke, etc. I'm presently reading Cervante's Don Quixote. Toss in the occasional modern mystery or scifi and I have a lifetime worth of reading yet to do.

Wh
When I finish one, I think about what I want to listen to on my commute or read before bed and pick an appropriate novel. I'm reading a Hornblower not available in audio and listening to the unabridged 70 hour Don Quixote.

I listened to that unabridged "Don Quixote recording. I found myself unexpectedly laughing at 500 year old jokes. Still funny. Really good book.

Amby, thank you so much for bringing up the Hardcore History podcast. Inwent and got it. It is fantastic. I am almost through all 5 parts of Armageddon. In hour 2 of podcast #5 he even talks about the game of Diplomacy. Pretty funny. Great details on key parts of the War to End All Wars and it's continuing 100 year impact on us, nations , and society.
Thanks Jason. And thanks too to YCHTT on his reading recommendations. I've gone all the way back to Roman Britain and have started reading Rosemary Sutcliff's The Eagle of the Ninth. Strangely enough I think I read it as a young teenager 30 years ago!

finding replacement for game 34637
Due to outside circumstances, I find I am not able to continue to fully participate in the Embassy Cable game (Gobble Earth variant). The game is currently on an extend phase for another day, so if anyone is willing to take over for Mexico (solid position) please let me know so we can have the mods put you into the game. Thanks!

Unique convoy situation question
I never thought this was possible until someone suggested it, but I have yet to try it. Say you have an army in Spain, a fleet in Marseilles, and a fleet in Gulf of Lyon. The fleet in Marseilles moves to Spain and the army in Spain moves to Marseilles via convoy of Gulf of Lyon. I know in normal Diplomacy rules that two units can't switch locations like that, but does the convoy change the route the army takes at all to allow this?

In Classic, I am confident if an army in Portugal Attacks Spain while an Army in Spain attacks Portugal, both will fail. Would this rule still apply if the it were instead a fleet on the northern coast attacking Portugal and a fleet in Portugal moving to the southern coast?

Our game bugged out, and mods are looking at it. What do we do and what will happen?
So basically, We were playing World War IV 6.2. It was the first time we got our community of players, both on a subreddit and a discord, to play a big 36 player game. Didn't start 100% the best the first year, some players didn't get the rules and ended up starting with 2 units instead of 3.
