Advertise your NON-live games here!
In an effort to compromise the pro-ads versus anti-ads for games: Post here for your non-live games to cut down on the number of ads but still advertise games. Post game link, WTA or PPSC, and the bet. Note: this doesn't count for special rules games.

Variant development questions (Pits of Horror)
Hello! I'm trying to develop a new variant and would like some help debugging some things. If anyone wants to help I would be very happy!!

I have uploaded a map.png, and a mapNames.png but I still can't see anything in the "Map" interface (some error gets thrown)?

Big Hitters vDip game
I'm interested in creating a new game for players with 2000+ vDip points. Password protected.

If you meet this criteria let me know here that you're interested. Once we know how many players, we can decide which variant etc.

Which font do you use to make texts in diplomacy variants?
I'm trying to create a variant in Photoshop, but I don't know which font to use to write the names of the places; it gets foggy when it is very small. Does anyone know what kind of font I use?

North America Minor Powers
So far it seems pretty balanced but I may need to run another test to make sure.

I looked at the map and here is the feedback I have:
Cahuila is more commonly spelled Coahuila
Nova Scotia should be New Brunswick
Way too many territories have cardinal directions in their names.
Greenland literally cannot interact with another power in the first year

Another thing I'd note is that Greenland has little choice in their start. If they want to match the other two powers with 2 first year builds (which, in a 3 player map, giving up an early build is a dangerous gambit), then they have to take BAFF and NEW. They have no other options. Sure they could try to gain positioning by moving to North Atlantic Ocean or West Arctic/Arctic Arch, but neither of those gives a major advantage, and almost always I suspect greenland will take the 2 SCs. Perhaps an island chain from Western Greenland to Elle to Victoria would allow Greenland some flexibility to choose a direction?

The person with the most options is really Mexico. They have 4 SCs to choose from (Cuba, South East, Great Lakes, and Rocky Mountains), 3 of which no one can contest (Great Lakes, South East, Cuba), and the last one, if Alaska contests it, they willingly give up a build to do so (although so does Mexico).
Ok

I'd say Mexico's early advantage might not always be such a great thing for them. In a 3-player game, one player taking an early lead will often encourage the other two to work together to stop them.

I might suggest splitting a sea region off of NPO that would border Hawaii, Bering, and MPO. Also one off NAO bordering ELS and MAO. Might help reduce any naval stalemates and make Hawaii harder to defend. But take my suggestions with a grain of salt :P

I think Fake AI's idea of splitting NPO has merit. An island center touching 3 puddles seems like a good design feature. On the other hand, I'm not sure about splitting NAO. That would create another space that touches zero centers, which is something that the classic map strongly avoids. The only classic spaces that touch no centers are London and Tunis, which are centers themselves.

That's a good point, KOS. Looking more at the map, stalemates around NAO might not be a huge issue since there's coastal centers that border it.

But I do think it's necessary to put another region bordering Hawaii.
Okay
A lot of people have said something about how Greenland cannot interactive with anybody else in the first year. Any suggestions on what territories to add/delete/move to change this?
Bonatogether (990 D)

Perhaps remove two of the Greenland centers and give them Newfoundland and Baffin Island instead. Also, I think you should merge Northwest Territories and Nunavut. However, I've never made a map so this advice is probably crap.
Maybe I should add another country?

I like the fact that you have exactly 3 powers, each at a corner of the basically triangular continent of North America.
After I added a new territory the IA orderface around the new terriotory now does not highlight adjacent terrs or show movement arrows
And it seems like some orders are not going thru

New Concept: Squadrons
This is just an idea I had: What if there were squadrons (a group of planes) in vDip?
They would be able to go on both land and sea territories, but of course there's a catch, or they would be OP.
The catch: They would not be able to capture territories.
Any thoughts?

Suggestion: Close chat option
On large variants, having lots of chats open makes the mobile interface quite cumbersome. It'd be nice if we could close chats, or if chats with dead people closed automatically.

Choose Your Evil Empire
Good day.
I am playing this game and it happened to me to move a fleet and it took the order wrong and went elsewhere.
It may have been a mistake, but now, the next turn, she won't even let me give her an order. It doesn't show me like a fleet of mine in the game.
How do you do with these things?

New to Site: Playing Games With Fewer Players
So, I'm new to the site and am trying to play with a group of friends as a way to stay in contact with each other. There are 6 of us. All of us are new to Diplomacy, and figured it'd be best to play on the Classic map first, but noticed it's for 7 players. Is there a way to pick the Classic map variant but only play with 6 people instead of 7? I can't seem to find anything talking about that. Thanks!
