So Many Toxic Players??
Is it just me, or has the amount of toxic players on this site recently skyrocketed? Over the course of just a few games, I’ve seen people shoving strange moves in each others faces like a dog that crapped on the carpet, players belittling each other, piss poor attitudes after stabs, etc. - I don’t mean to complain, but I’m also seeing how it is effecting new players and this is generally something I can’t stand. Crashed games in the new games list
Is there a way to get rid of the crashed games that appear in the new games list? They've been there for like a year and they keep making me think there's more potential games than there actually are.

Around the World 2
As some of you may remember, I ran the "Around the World" tournament 2 years ago (visible on Tournaments page). I'm looking at perhaps doing it again, depending on interest. What do y'all think?

Are points important?
Clearly a measure of a players ability can be glanced through points, but what are the pros and cons of rated and unrated games? Unrated games provide a bit more of a laid back attitude and from my experience are more open to draws, but at the same time when points are at stake players are less likely to miss turns and more likely to play to the best of their ability.

Regarding vpoint gain
In the Modern Europa map in PPSC, which scenario gives more vpoints, and how would it be calculated?

a) Two nations split the map in two, with one getting slightly more SCs than the other for a solo victory in PPSC
b) A 4-5 way draw in PPSC, with my nation having about 25-30% of the map

Comparison between WW1 maps.
My message is too long so it is in reply. The goal is to compare the two Edwardian, 1900 and classical maps.

Private game and discussions off-site
This is more directed at the mod team, but here for everyone to see:

I was thinking about making a private game with some friends in public press (unranked); I was wondering if we would be allowed to use communications off-site as to receive notifications, without breaking site rules.

Ideas for a new world wide map
So I was looking at a few different variants and was inspired by the Modern Europe and Divided States maps. My idea is a world wide map with the same detail as both of those maps, with sea lanes of course.
Currently the largest variant is Divided States with 50 players, but seeing as how my idea would be at least divided states + modern europe it could be a very large game. Would there be any issues with this either sitewide or anything else? I'm thinking any games would automatically be no excused turns, regain never, and extend never. Give me your thoughts on this as I'd love to hear them.

Sounds like it would be fantastic, really interested to see what you come up with.

It sounds like it could be an intriguing idea, but it's hard enough to get 50 dedicated people for Divided States, let alone more. Most likely you'd end up with a large number of either drop outs, or people who are actively disengaged with the game and simply playing a gunboat style game instead of giving it the attention it deserves. We see this already in Divided States games, let alone if you add another 20-40 people into the game.
drano019 I think the difficulties would be compounded by just having more players, for example it's easy for even games with 10 people to get difficult when someone missing their turn, but in divided states like you mentioned there's a large amount of people who just play gunboat anyways.

That's a pretty decent map, but not quite as detailed as I think Eisenhhower(notreally) is looking for. I do think that 35-36 people is going to have to be the number of people, though.

Personally, I really love this type of map where you as a power are not necessarily contiguous:

https://vdiplomacy.com/variants.php?variantID=71
https://vdiplomacy.com/variants.php?variantID=81

It lessens the scenarios where, for example in the Divided States map, someone like Hawaii would not really have much to discuss with Kentucky unless both powers were doing fairly well. In colonial-type maps, you have a high number of neighbors and it opens up plays where one power could be against another in one area of the world but not the other, hypothetically.

If you aren't concerned about being 100% historically accurate in alliance structure or time, or perhaps just be fiction future, pairings such as Soviet-Union + Cuba or USA + Philippines could allow for more places to be represented, but without bumping up the players to very high numbers!
I like erikip107's point about not being 100% historically accurate, I was thinking about a map with very high detail like that of Divided States and Modern Europe, but not each state would be a player. Instead a map where states could be grouped together as regions separated or not by empty territories/SCs just to cut down on player amount. One example could be the East African Federation being controlled by one player instead of all those countries separately.

Wait so would you be looking to reproduce the World War IV Sealanes map, but just with more detail?

I would be intrigued by a 1v1 version covering the whole world on the scale of divided states, europa renovatio etc.

Divided States, but 5p or 10p, the states split between the players in a patchwork so no player has a 'core' until the decide to devote all their builds to one state and leave the others to wither.
Yes pretty much World War IV Sealanes in more detail, maybe a larger amount of players, but no more than 50. Splitting up players territories would probably be significant in crowded areas such as the US, India, and maybe Europe.
If you want a variant withe a ton of players, you can just take any big variant and have it start Chaos-style, with every dot controlled by a different player.
drano019 (2710 D Mod)
17 Jun 22 UTC
It's not do-able on vDip I'm pretty sure, but to get around some of the "players have a core" issues, I think it'd be fun to play a large map but with players choosing their SCs. Like 25 players. First round you pick 1-25. Second round 25-1. Then back again 1-25. Would either turn out that people want a solid core, or people might get distributed around the map into a more chaotic format. Would also be nice that every game would be different.

And if you allow diplomacy during choosing of SC time, you could really make some things interesting?
erikip107 (2539 D)

would it take 75 days to get the game started, then? How would that work?
drano019 (2710 D Mod)
17 Jun 22 UTC
It would be a major hurdle yes. Would have to be majorly worked out between people as to how to do it. You'd need highly dedicated players who are willing to commit to responding fast during an initial time period. Which I admit, wouldn't work well with the "allow diplomacy during choosing of SC time" idea.

If you cut out the Diplomacy and you get a group of players committed to fast responses, you could possibly hash it out in a week or two. Not too much different than waiting for a game to start for awhile.
drano019 (2710 D Mod)

Probably would work better with smaller groups though I admit.
I think it would be funny to give the players names related to regions like the Mediterranean or new england only to see them having territory only in India or someplace humorous like that.

Can you see who all the users you have blocked in one place?
Reason for asking, I would like to join a divided states game that is nearing full, but someone in the game has me blocked, or I have someone in the game blocked. I just want to make sure it's not my fault that I can't join the game, even though I don't think I have ever blocked someone. If you could help my situation I'd be very thankful.

The Aussies have let me down
I just discovered that there is a town in Australia called Texas. Furthermore, because it is on a state border, there are in fact two. And most importantly, Peter Sherwin was from Texas, Qld/NSW. So Australia's greatest cattle baron and largest private owner of ranchland was from Texas.
