For Europa Renovatio players
I like how the colors are mostly reflected in the vDip game. Clearly related. Anyone know the backstory?

I just realized A Modern Europe is just the HOI4 map with some small changes.
This is the variant: https://vdiplomacy.com/variants.php?variantID=136
And compare it to Europe in this: https://i.redd.it/mu1rgb224w221.png

Simultaneous Solos
I’ve just realized that in the games where a solo requires less than 50% of the available SCs, two players could reach that mark at the same time. Does anyone know if this has ever happened on this site and what would happen if it does?

South China Sea Variant
I put together a variant based on the South China Sea dispute.
https://vdiplomacy.com/variants.php?variantID=142
The seven players fight over tiny islands that are hard to defend. I think games should be pretty chaotic. Anyone interested in trying it out?

Country Switch in this map
Hi, I am Thailand on this map: https://www.vdiplomacy.com/board.php?gameID=53898#gamePanel.
I am really busy these days, trying to find a new player to replace me.
I do not want it turns into an open position because I do not want Thailand to miss turns in this game. Is there an experienced player who wants to replace me?

Thanks to the hard work of @tobi1, David E. Cohen's 'East Indies' variant is open for playtesting!

It's been a long time coming. This variant merges two existing vDip maps, Maharajah and Spice Islands, into one epic battlefield.

The trial game will be unranked and have random power selection, being fully open to all interested diplomats. Just follow the link, sharpen your knives, and jump in! *Your help* will be invaluable in forging a better experience for the entire community.

On the odd chance you find a bug, make sure to report it ASAP. Have fun!

Just 5/14 we need more.

I haven't played on both of its parents, and just finished learning about rivers, but just wanna give it a shot. And let's have fun!

Do we have some more colors available for this variant? I spent half an hour to figure out who is who for the similar colors, and I don't like country names in the map.

And thank you Enriador!
Enriador (1507 D)

Appreciate the feedback. Which countries do you think are too similar? Would Dai Viet and Rajputana count?
hakureimarisa (1498 D)
13 Feb 23 UTC
The coloring in the map is clear; it's names of the countries, which are displayed with similar (or maybe the same) colors by the site. One pair of such is Dai Viet and Rajputana, another Gondwana and Malacca. Ayutthaya and Persia could be no better for other people I think, though I can tell.

The country names are what they are!

As to color, whatever is clear and easy to tell apart would be fine with me.

Thanks again, Enriador, for pushing this over the finish line.

Until this is fixed and as a general FYI to anyone:

You can have the country names displayed in global chat and on the map by activating the corresponding toggles under:

-> Account -> Site Settings -> features

You can always differentiate your messages from those that someone else wrote from yours being displayed in cursive.

Hope this helps some people.

I'm not a big fan of the names either, but I think this is just cultural bias since I don't really know any of the local history. I'm sure someone from southeast asia would feel right at home though, so I think they should stay the same.
I think the names are reasonably accurate as referencing historical polities and/or cultural regions, but "Mughalistan" is debatable. I was under the impression that "Mughal" was an exonym for Mongol, and the territory of Mughalistan was supposed to be further north..
I believe the Mughals were in that area at the time. They had gotten there fairly recently, IIRC, though it has been a *long* time since I did that research!
Fake Al (1747 D)

^ You're referring to the Eastern Chagatai Khanate (often called Moghulistan), right? I think, for the creator here, the "Mughalistan" player is meant to represent the remnants of the Timurids, out of which Babur would create what we call the Mughal Empire. Maybe the name is meant to reference the Mughals. I'm not sure what a more "accurate" name would be. Kabulistan or Timurids?

How did we get here? I was trying to say the colors of names for some countries are way too similar and here we are to talk about names.

You were saying „I spent half an hour to figure out who is who for the similar colors, AND I don't like country names in the map.“

The latter part suggested that this was a separate point, which apparently was not the case?
hakureimarisa (1498 D)
18 Feb 23 UTC
Err, another place I'm not understood. I don't like to display country names in the maps I meant XD
JECE (1534 D)
19 Feb 23 UTC
Hmm. What do you mean by that? The 'great powers' (the playable ones) aren't named on the map, are they? Is it "Chinese Empire" that bothers you?
hakureimarisa (1498 D)
19 Feb 23 UTC
Nah not about China. I meant when I switched on "Show country names", a useful tool to tell who is who without the use of colors, I found all the names everywhere ruining the map which could have been a piece of art otherwise.

I also had trouble choosing the power I wanted and used the color as a guide, which wasn't easy either. Otherwise I'm looking forward to the game.
Enriador (1507 D)

Besides tweaking colors I think I will add the name of each power on the actual map, as in Napoleonic (variantID=101).
Enriador (1507 D)
21 Feb 23 UTC
By the way, if anyone else is interested in joining a game of East Indies just let me know.
hakureimarisa (1498 D)
21 Feb 23 UTC
Adding a name like Napoleonic is great! It looks nice in Napoleonic, and it will work too for East Indies! And it's much easier than changing the colors.
Model (798 D X)

I think that in East India the large scaled minimap is supplemented by the very clearly scaled bigmap. I like it.

Do any of you play political rp minecraft or some other game?
I joined a political roleplay minecraft server recently where we build nations both physically in the game and on a custom map that looks similar to a diplomacy board. I've had a bit of fun making redstone farms and such to increase our economy, claim more land, and even make alliances with other nations. Does anyone else here have experience with minecraft political rp specifically or perhaps some other online multiplayer game?

How does game limit work?
Currently I can't join public games. It said, "Due to game limits you cannot join games."
However, when I click into "game limits" to check the details, it told me "=> No game limits apply".
Yet I still can't join games. I wonder how does this limit actually work, or is it a bug?

Variant Cataloging
I've been trying to keep track of variants made. Recently Stephen Agar came back on the scene and I am helping him amass variants over the past 20 years or so of his inactivity. I've made a google spreadsheet that contains the ones he's cataloged on his various websites and added a bunch that I knew of. I've also made a form to submit variants to be cataloged.
