09 Mar 13 UTC Spring, 1938: oh great. I'm the Nazi.
09 Mar 13 UTC Spring, 1938: I get to wear funny hats, gesticulate and eat too much pasta.
09 Mar 13 UTC Spring, 1938: Can I just double check on the expectations for this game? eg is it a normal Dip game where any alliance can form anywhere (ie not be historically accurate) or are we sticking to the traditional history line?

Also being public press shall our "voices" be those of our leaders ie I'd take on Mussolini's style rather than the way I'd normally play.

What do people think?
09 Mar 13 UTC Spring, 1938: You could role play, but otherwise just standard public press game.
09 Mar 13 UTC Spring, 1938: Oh and yay I get to play the Soviets
Germany: Alliance?
09 Mar 13 UTC Spring, 1938: It is my belief that alliances need not be historically accurate. Indeed they could not be as our objectives are geo-political in the game whereas in history there was always an ideological element which is absent from the game.

As for making one's "voices" historically accurate, again, that is a matter of personal preference. I have no intention of echoing the voice of Edouard Deladier. There were of course other choices of French leader available: Reynaud, Petain or Laval, for example, but I have no idea what Reynaud's voice would sound like and Petain and Laval show the consequences in France of making the wrong choices.

In other countries as well there are of course other possible voices, even in Germany where Beck, Halder, Canaris and Oster were already planning to overthrow (and in Oster's case, kill) Hitler.
09 Mar 13 UTC Spring, 1938: Closer to the matter in hand, I note that Soviet forces seem to have mobilised already, which suggests that Comrade Stalin may be planning to let his armies rather than his diplomats do his talking for him.

France of course, is a peaceful nation, rich in culture and with a proud history. Any manoeuvres we may make in 1938 will be purely defensive. We trust that the West can combine to present a popular front against the Soviet steamroller.
09 Mar 13 UTC Spring, 1938: Same thing with Germany. Just for defense.
09 Mar 13 UTC Spring, 1938: Also, we're totally not racist.
09 Mar 13 UTC Spring, 1938: See what I mean? Clearly Admiral Canaris has become head of state, perhaps until the Kaiser can be restored from his home in the Netherlands?
09 Mar 13 UTC Spring, 1938: And if there's one person who doesn't have imperial ambitions, it's a Kaiser.
09 Mar 13 UTC Spring, 1938: And England is pieceful as long as you don't go for me.
09 Mar 13 UTC Spring, 1938: Pieceful in the sense that you want a piece of everything?

And it sounds like the consensus is standard Dip game, real life historical alliances don't apply.
09 Mar 13 UTC Spring, 1938: That is the consensus Signor. Were there any places you wanted a piece of?
10 Mar 13 UTC Spring, 1938: Germany: You have not responded to my request.
10 Mar 13 UTC Spring, 1938: Merci Frenchie. There are many places I'd like a nibble of. Foremost is Tunis. Any issues there?
10 Mar 13 UTC Spring, 1938: Yes, USSR. But there are many SCs in my sphere. Please don't be threatened by an in initial eastward movement.
10 Mar 13 UTC Spring, 1938: Got it Germany.
Is this build-anywhere by the way?
10 Mar 13 UTC Spring, 1938: Feel free to take Tunis in the first instance Signor. I trust however that you will do so by land, and leave SoS free of traffic.
10 Mar 13 UTC Autumn, 1938: I trust Italy will show himself trustworthy
