01 Jul 13 UTC | Why the draw vote instead of the solo, DRC? What made you choose that? |
02 Jul 13 UTC | EOG from DRC First time I played on this map. I thought the map called for an alliance with Nig; she/he shared this opinion, and a game-long alliance was born. Eth was a possible target, but I'd leave my back exposed to a naval attack. Therefore, building a navy and going south looked like the best course. I was incredibly lucky: SA messed with his 1st year orders, then went CD. SA was replaced fast, but it was weak, and I could easily take it out (with some help from Mad). At this point, Eth struck: I was (barely) able to contain him, and Mad moves were threatening. But Mad attacked me AND Eth: both of us turned fast against him. I got another big break when Mad let me enter South Indian Ocean, and I rapidly got most of its SCs. By this time, I was in an excellent position to resume my war against Eth (going against Nig would likely lead to a solo for Mor). Eth fought valiantly (kudos to Alcuin), but - given my huge advantage - he/she could only delay my advance. In the end, I was 1 SC short of soloing, and wondered a lot about what to do: I could take Sao Tome'. But I got there through so many lucky developments, that I did not like the idea of winning with a stab of a game-long ally. Therefore, I tried to get the extra SC from Mor, but its line was pretty solid, and soon gave up. |
