31 May 11 UTC Bidding: So, this is Greek diplomacy, welcome all!
31 May 11 UTC Bidding: I would highly recommend that each of you read the variant rules pdf available at the "Greek Diplomacy" link near the top-left of your screen. Basically, each of us has our home SC only to start with. However, we each also have 4 tokens with which to bid for other starting SC's. Basically speaking, whoever bids highest, wins the SC; tokens spent on lower bids are lost (so choose wisely). If two or more players tie on a bid for an SC, the SC remains neutral, and the tokens spent are lost (so you can see there's a strategic factor in possibly considering "countering" your prospective enemy's moves). As you can see, there are several uses for the tokens; you can make sure you get more SC's (say, with two bids of two tokens on two nearby SC's), or you can try for more SC's but gamble that others aren't bidding for the same ones.

Once our SC's are determined, there is a chart on the pdf that tells you what sort of unit starts on the SC, so be sure to consider that when you bid. Any questions, let us all know (but read the pdf first!), good luck everyone! :D
31 May 11 UTC Bidding: just reading that pdf now. thx adam!!
31 May 11 UTC Bidding: will we see each other's bids when this is all done and said?
31 May 11 UTC Bidding: I'm not sure if we'll see the bids, or just the results of the bids (although, insofar that the computer is treating the tokens like units, I would think it will track them just like the moves)...
01 Jun 11 UTC Bidding: This looks like a cool map. It will be interesting to see how the bidding plays out. Unfortunately, Ender was taken as call-sign so I have gone with dried fruit instead, mmmm.... dried fruit. Can you guess which plant that produces dried fruit inspired this - lol, this is a trick question.

Achene happens to be Greek in origin so it appropriate.

Have a good game - J
01 Jun 11 UTC Spring, 1550 BC.: Typical achenes are the fruits of buttercup, buckwheat, and cannabis.
01 Jun 11 UTC Spring, 1550 BC.: Thank you Persian wiki...
01 Jun 11 UTC Spring, 1550 BC.: Hmm, suddenly the Achene Empire looks much more worthwhile conquering... cries are heard throughout the streets of Byzantium, "burn it, burn it all! How dare they use cannabis as fruit, it's meant to be BURNED!"... :P
01 Jun 11 UTC Spring, 1550 BC.: Where's the other half of Sparta? "THIS IS SPA!!!!!" just does not have the same ring to it. Sounds more like a commercial or something.

01 Jun 11 UTC Spring, 1550 BC.: THIS---IS---SPA....Spa....spa....??
01 Jun 11 UTC Spring, 1550 BC.: sounds kinda like a time-share spa resort
01 Jun 11 UTC Spring, 1550 BC.: Check the order history if you have any questions about the starting SC's. Basically, we each had 1 SC, our home SC, with 4 units, located off-board on our "coin stacks". Those units moved to the SC's we chose, with bounces dying (because they had no SC to support them). In Sparta's case, he was bounced in Delphi (by Byzantium), in Melos (by Athens), and in Knossos (by Rhodes, who happened to "attack" Knossos with two coin stacks, so she took it).
01 Jun 11 UTC Spring, 1550 BC.: Looks like he wanted to nail down the Gulf of Salamis. Long live the luncheon meat!!! 300 varieties!!!!

01 Jun 11 UTC Spring, 1550 BC.: I wonder why that duplicated...
01 Jun 11 UTC Spring, 1550 BC.: I wonder why that didn't... :P
01 Jun 11 UTC Spring, 1550 BC.: Yes, there is a lot of Burn in Macedonia these days. Taking a page out the Persian handbook we are now compressing our Hashish and given it to our best warriors. Beware the Hassassin
04 Jun 11 UTC Autumn, 1550 BC.: i've heard their name is pronounced "Hashassins"
