28 Sep 16 UTC Spring, 1860: game on!
01 Oct 16 UTC Autumn, 1865: ouch, loss of Ohio may hurt bad
01 Oct 16 UTC Autumn, 1865: Yeah, that was probably a good year for me. A couple of the worst cases didn't happen surrounding the all-out push on Ohio.

This is a great variant for me. I'm new here, and this is my first. I tried a couple of the classic map 1x1 games and there wasn't much thinking. Probably just because the classic map has been so well-known to me for 30 years. It is just a race. This has a lot of subtlety to it. Fun.
01 Oct 16 UTC Autumn, 1865: I'd want to play the other side before reaching a conclusion, but my guess is that the Union has the worst of it. Those lakes really get in your way, making you choose between spreading out for growth and defense. The offsetting quality over here is the relatively smaller number of physical spaces.

I didn't realize how cripplingly essential Ches Bay was when I took it, but I'd say the biggest advantage for the south is that it can immediately take that space. I'm glad I did. The counter for that is forcing a fleet into DC, but not attacking West Virginia might be too high a cost. It is hard to see things like that without just playing it out a couple of times.
01 Oct 16 UTC Spring, 1866: it's a good 1v1 for sure. I've been playing online for a while, but am a 35 year face to face player
02 Oct 16 UTC that went really badly ... I'm very busy tomorrow and Mon AM so I will concede now, good game
02 Oct 16 UTC GameMaster: Union voted for a Concede. If everyone (but one) votes Concede the game will end and the player _not_ voting Conceede will get all the points. Everybody else will get a defeat.
02 Oct 16 UTC I enjoyed that. If you want to start another one after tomorrow and Monday, perhaps swapping the roles, I'd be happy to join you. Good game.
02 Oct 16 UTC Prob Mon PM (US Eastern time) or Tue AM ... would love to play again
02 Oct 16 UTC Sounds great. Drop a note here, or invite me if there is some mechanism on this site.
