07 Aug 18 UTC [India]:Congratulations, CoXBoT and Desert Fox! I think that I probably had the solo on the books, and I probably need the points to compete in the tournament, but in the end something just didn't feel right about turning against Srivijava, who was unselfish and loyal most of the game, and willing to take on major risks to remain allied. Retrospectively much of much success was only possible with a partner like this, which is tough to find in any game, much less a gunboat one.

These games take so long that it's difficult to recall all the things that happened early on. Even though I opened rather ambiguously and in my opinion in a flexible posture Turan made it clear he was coming at India from the first season, and much of my early game was focused on preventing his assault. Srivijava made some subtle overtures hinting at a partnership, which I picked up up early, and ultimately chose to accept, abruptly stabbing China for Chang' An while still in a full tilt fight with Turan and an aggressive Axum building fleets. This move really hurt China, and I was happy for a no press game after this season. Still I was looking long term, and could not afford to have both Axum and Srivijava against me. I hoped that my action against China would solidify an alliance with Srivijaya, and keep him busy against China and take my side against Axum. It did. From there it was all grind and go, driving to the Caspian Sea before Russia could control it, and later towards Alexandria and the Mediterranean Sea before Germany could lock it up.

Russia's fall from power was shocking. I felt like Russia had a board top locked up with a decent solo shot, but he chose to over extend his position with deep drives into eastern Asia yielding no supply centers, and far beyond any necessary defensive lines necessary. At the same time he also spend several game years advancing a fleet around Africa and into the Indian Ocean. While I'm sure this was fun, it was needlessly provocative, and a luxury that eventually cost him dearly with lost productivity and weak spots in his defenses against Germany.

There was a point where I felt that Wagadu could and should survive, but he wasn't having Srivijaya's end around naval maneuvers, and ultimately I had to pick a side again. My priority was getting fleets through Alexandria and into the Mediterranean theater, and Wagadu's posture while not threatening to me was not conducive to my necessary naval progress. In the end I had to assure that I got to Crete first (before Germany) to hold Asia Minor and the Caspian corridor. There were easily 10+ supply centers at stake here, and there's just no way to convey that urgency in a gunboat game. At this point I started seriously considering making a solo run myself, and was slowly setting up for it. In the end I was just an old softy for a loyal ally, and thought that I'd take the board top points in a 15 game tournament setting.

Truth, sorry to see you go. We could really use you finishing this off.
07 Aug 18 UTC [Srivijaya]:Well played Ruffy and also CoXBoT. I’m very happy to end up with a draw in this one, as Ruff said, he was definitely in position to go for the solo. Although my plan was to fall back to try and defend just such a manuever, I’m not sure I could have stopped it. Maybe if Germany and I could quickly get on the same page we’d have a shot.

I did look at stabbing u Ruff earlier but it was never the right moment. Also, with so many armies in Asia it probably would have bogged us both down with little gain, allowing Germany to grow and possibly Solo.
07 Aug 18 UTC [Srivijaya]:It was definitely a game of missed opportunities for me in this one.
07 Aug 18 UTC [Khazaria]:Congrats RUFF, Fox and CoxBot. I have never seen that India-Srivijaya alliance really works.

I don't remember much about my own game but it seems I tried to be Russia's friend and go against Byzantinum. Unfortunately Russia turned against me and it was too much to fight against them both.
07 Aug 18 UTC [Germany]:Gg! Shout out to Ambassador. France was an especially tough out when I had you way over matched. That delay ultimately led to the draw as I would have advanced to Africa much quicker and possibly been in a position to solo.
08 Aug 18 UTC [France]:Thanks Doc. Seeing I have done badly in pretty much every KW15 game, I fear the message is slowly sinking in that this just ain't my variant!
