But in fact, I would point to getting the A1960 guess over Alb wrong as the source of your collapse. Losing it in 61 meant you had no ability to contest the Med theatre, and as a result, got overrun.

That's why it's much more common to bounce over Greece for the first move. It's slower, but it means a wrong guess in the first year doesn't cost you the game.
