So I have sent an offer to all 3 remaining players to TO a strong abandoned position...
...and none of the them even has the courtesy to write back and say "No thanks." How are we supposed to help if the players in a passworded game won't let us have the password. It's not like the player who left will come back. He has been banned for crying out loud! Oh, and the game is paused and I doubt the leader is just going to agree to draw at this point as he has the dominant position by far.

Temporary absence - Looking for sitter(s)
I will be away next week (Monday-Sunday) and have three games which will require sitting or pausing. I have requested a pause in each of them but it would be great to get a sitter as well, in case the games do not pause. Does anyone want to take any of my games for a week?

Units switching places
In the most recent phase of this game: http://vdiplomacy.com/board.php?gameID=7079
Units in Mayan Gold and Campeche switched places. Isn't one of the rules of diplomacy that should even hold with double-move units that two units never switch places? Is this a bug?

Looking for a solid variant and a new game to play on it...
Recommendations anyone? I looked at American Conflict but as I dug into it, the idea that you could get from the Great Lakes to the Mississippi through Illinois bother me. There is no way to do it in real life. And if you are going to have the Mississippi River, you should include the Ohio River - no less important in the grand scheme, although that is forgivable. I juts can't stomach the notion that the Great Lakes connect to the Mississippi.

political affiliation. Those who support fiscal conservatism and are against a nanny state.

Lief is another conservative on this site. Which would bring us up to 6 conservative webdippers. Some of whom might not be interested in this game.

What about people who are against the idea of a nanny state but aren't fiscally conservative? Or people who are fiscally conservative but not opposed to a nanny state?
krellin (1031 D)
23 Apr 12 UTC
"Fiscally Conservative" diametrically opposed to "Nanny State"....but "Nanny State" is not diametrically opposed to "Fiscally Conservative"...

There are some who feel that additional regulations and such actually saves and generates more money than would otherwise be generated and/or saved. I mean, the FDA for instance was brought into existence by a pretty conservative guy.

I'm not making that argument. And I'm sure I wouldn't qualify as a conservative under almost any definition because I have ideas that are all over the place, mainly (but not exclusively) somewhere on the left. Therefore, even though the password's right there, I'm polite enough to not take it.

I'm just saying that I think increasingly society is trying to say that there are only two opinions and there can only be two opinions, but I think there's much more variety than that.
airborne (970 D)

Idk, what the site considers me. I'm certainly conservative on social issues being a Midwestern American Republican
krellin (1031 D)
23 Apr 12 UTC
"society is trying to say..." I disagree. the MEDIA is trying to paint the parties as always radical to one side or the other, in denial of the reality of the population, and even the candidates themselves.

For example, Rmoney was the "liberal" conservative candidate. Now that he has the nomination, the media will start lambasting him with extreme right-wing labels. Mark my words...
SacredDigits (978 D)
23 Apr 12 UTC
Alright, I'll agree with that, Krellin.
Wow! I take off for lunch and this thing takes off! Cool! I'm in, of course. Three more to join and we can get started.
@SD - As I got it started, you are more than welcome in my book. We need a liberal to help keep the conversation in the global going. :-)
krellin (1031 D)
23 Apr 12 UTC
@Sacred....make sure you clarify what krellin you are agreeing with. Apparently I have an evil doppleganger lurking about that you might not want your opinions associated with...
@krellin - so I'm guessing your namesake over on "that other site" told you about this thread after my friend "Draugnar" told him?
krellin (1031 D)
23 Apr 12 UTC
@You....I don't know of what you speak. Draugnar? Sounds like an unsavory fellow, at best.
SacredDigits (978 D)

BTW, it's a clearly recognizable and understandable typo, but from now on, I'm going to call Romney "R-Money."

Thanks, YCHTT, but I'm going to sit this one out. I'm honestly overcommitted and was mostly just semi-trolling.
krellin (1031 D)
23 Apr 12 UTC
"R-Money" Curious - is that intended as an insult to Romney? Is it somehow a negative to have a Presidential candidate that comes from success? Would you make the same judgements against, say, a Kennedy? For that matter...the Obama family lives pretty well...are you aware of the multi-million dollar home they have in Chicago?

I find the "Romney is evil because he has money" slurs by the media to be hypocritical in the *extreme*.
SacredDigits (978 D)
23 Apr 12 UTC
No, it's just because you typo'ed his name as Rmoney and I thought it was funny.

There was no agenda intended in its bearing on reality.
SacredDigits (978 D)
23 Apr 12 UTC
Really, everyone who is in House of Reps and above has more money than I'll ever see, and nearly all of them started there. I have no illusions about that.
Shep315 (1435 D)
23 Apr 12 UTC
What a game of conservatives? and I was not mentioned? Apparently I have not done a good enough job making my personal political views known here!
SacredDigits (978 D)
23 Apr 12 UTC
I'm a bad liberal insomuch as I don't believe being rich or coming from money is a negative trait.

I don't think it's universally a positive trait either, it's just a trait.
Having money is neither positive or negative in and of itself. however, having made your own fortune makes you good at something and, therefore, a potential good candidate. Having inherited or married into your money does not mean naything either way.
Need 2 more! We have drano, fasces, krellin who is *not* krellin and Draug... er... YCHTT.
krellin (1031 D)
23 Apr 12 UTC
@You -- agree with your money analysis. It is sad that the current political rhetoric (which, oddly enough is espoused by a bunch of rich people) is that Romney;s money makes him disconnected (says the Democrat lifer-politicians and the media elite...) But Obama's money...$5 million in proceeds for a book Saul Olinski wrote, for example...that money is all good. <scratches head in wonder...>
krellin (1031 D)
23 Apr 12 UTC
Not Saul Olinski...er....well, whoever Obama's ghost writer is....the bomber guy...the one who kicked off his politicial campaign...
SacredDigits (978 D)
23 Apr 12 UTC
Eh, being good at something or being self-made wealthy doesn't in and of itself make a person a good candidate. I mean, Allen Iverson made a pretty good amount of money for himself, I wouldn't vote for him in a million years.
krellin (1031 D)
23 Apr 12 UTC
sure - you have to judge whether the success is applicable. that being said, if someone's greatest achievment in life was that they were a half-assed janitor, that definitely is not something to brag about when runngin for office.
Let's just say I would trust Bill Gates with the reins of this country before I trusted a Kennedy or McCain. the difference? McCain gets hi smoney from his wife and the Kennedy's well that is bovious. Bill Gates, on the other hand, was a wise businessman and made his fortune being a great pirate (early Microsoft money was made from things Bill bought and respackaged) and putting people and products together.
And while we discuss it, we are still looking for two more for the conservative game in question...

@Airborne: Your also good, any republican is considered a conservative to most people, even when they aren't.

Concede button has huge influence on diplomacy!
Example: 4 players are left, quite equally matched, and EoG is higher in comparison with normal, so a 2way draw is more likely then normal, 3 of them work together to kill the other one, 2 of them plan to stab the 3rd when the 4th is dead, however, the 4th votes concede, so no reason to not vote draw unless you plan to stab...
It could influence the outcome of the game big time, i doubt that was the idra... Questions? Opinions?

Summer League Game
Ok all, we had a few drop out of the first one and some that do not wish to play this Variant at all. So here is the new link to the Summer Game. It is a Known World variant. We might need a few more to sing up. So if you can bump up the Summer Game Post in the forum until we get this kicked off. Go ahead and drop the other two as I am about to do the same. Wolfman out.
