I also think playing this on that map with the barbarians that need to get to SCs to survive the first round would be hilarious.

So we're up to 10 now, I think that as a bare minimum we should have at least 12 players which would allow Fantasy World Diplomacy (Rinascimento could be fun but I think the starting positions are too imbalanced, like if the King starts as a doomed power). Obviously, if we can get more than that we can adjust.

Looking again at the variant's page, I was thinking that Imperial Diplomacy could be VERY interesting. 13 players, and even better if we decided beforehand that the King would be one of the Imperial powers (Britain, France, Holland).

One of the problems with the other variants is that the King can only have so many neighbors, and so interaction is limited; if he were a Colonial power though, just about everyone has the ability to interact directly with the King. Thoughts?

Sounds like an awesome idea to me.

If we only get 13, that's fine. I think we set a sign-up deadline. If we have exactly enough for a variant, we play that. If we get an amount that doesn't have a variant, the odd players out either get wait listed or we expand deadline until we get enough for the next vatiant

Note everybody that I reserved a spot for ScubaSteve just in case because he was forgotten according to RUFFHAUS, but I don't know him and I don't know if he's playing, I just figured I'd reserve a spot if he wants to play.

Thank you for clarifying Steephie, let's assume ScubaSteve isn't playing until he confirms either way. I propose that we shoot for 13 as our starting point (4 more players needed), but I think we should prioritize including everyone who wants to play over going for a specific variant. Even though the "Imperial King" idea seems quite fun :).

So if we get a sudden burst of 5 people who want to play we'll roll with that, but if there's a slow trickle like how it's been going so far, I vote we start Imperial Dip at 13.
