Is there any particular reason why I am being prevented from joining a game?

I have an error message on screen but it's so inapplicable it's not even funny.

"You're taking on too many games at once for a new member."

(1) I'm in 3 games trying to add a fourth, that's not too many
(2) I've been here for 16 months now

"Please relax and enjoy the game or games that you are currently in before joining/creating a new one."

I'm in 3 1v1s which take a combined 10 minutes a day to enter orders on and looking to add one more gunboat... what's the problem with that?

"You need to play 9 more phases (across all your games) before you can take on another game."

Why?

"The quickest way to do this is to leave any pre-games you might be in and take over a civil disorder power from another game."

(1) not in any pre-games
(2) why do I need to pick up a CD power or two in order to play another game?

"2-player variants are not affected by this restriction."

If they're not affected, then I have zero games counting toward the requirement. Furthermore, if I have no games completed that count, and I can't join any new games... is this saying I'm required to pick up CD countries before I can play regularly?

Actually, it's rather strange it doesn't let you join new games if you're playing ony 1v1 games....

I think the problem is that I hit the default amount of games allowed with the 1v1s (I'm in 3 atm).

My question is this... why don't my ~80 games finished give me any sort of credibility in these ratings?

Because it only counted games once it went live, we all went through a period of annoyance waiting for things to sort out.

Gah. I don't come on here often enough for non-1v1 games, either. Oh well.

Technically no (as I'm still waiting on the replacement hard drive), but I've finally found a place I can check fairly frequently in the interim and I can probably manage the webDiplomacy games again until the drive comes in (at which point I'll be set).

Only marginally related, but does it max out? My rating is good and I just joined a fuckload of games, but no errors. How many is too many for someone with 98% rating?

This was introduced to limit the games "new" players can join at once.
Too many new players joint much to much games at once (and it was not even in bad faith, they just want to try all variants) and dropped out of a lot of games, because they didn't have the time to play all their games.

Because it was introduced some weeks ago even long time members needed to up their rating for some days and it does not look like a problem for the longtime members anymore.

Your case is a bit special, as you hit the 3-game limit with your 2-player games and now you can't join another game (only 2-player games).
I'll change the code, so it does not count the 2-player games you are currently playing.

This is how RR currently works.
RR = 100 minus phases missed / phases played * 200, not to be lower than 0
Example: If a user misses 5% of their games, rating would be 90, 15% would be 70, etc.

RR >90:
2 cases: 1. new user (reliability uncertain) or very reliable player:
maxgames = phasesPlayed / $totalGames * 3 (a new game for 3 phases played, slows down new members, does not effect old players)

RR <90: 1 game for each 10%RR

RR=0: not able to join (or create) new games.

Found a really elegant solution to your problem.
It should no longer count 2-player games you are already in.

That's really nifty. I actually really like this function, just a little inconvenient for me right now :P I guess a lot of other people thought that too.
