What are the rules and which map will be used?

"For those who don't know, the Vdip Cup is a 1v1 tournament featuring IvG, Fv A and Duo games"

We are using the danish system, 1 duo, 2 IvGs and 2 FvAs will be played each round, scoring 2 for a win and 1 for a draw.

As Gauroz does a better job at explaining the rules here they are:

1) SYSTEM. Danish 7 Rounds
2) STANDARD MATCH will be 2 GvI + 2 FvA + 1 Duo. So each Match assigns 10 Victory-Points (10-0, 9-1, 8-2, 7-3, 6-4, 5-5)
3) TOURNAMENT NUMBER (TN). Players must declare their VDip ranking as they sign up [or the Tournament-Master takes note of it]. Pre-ranking allow players placed in the previous Tournament to have lower TNs. Once the signing-up phase is over, TN are assigned by pre-ranking and ranking as stated just above in this thread.
4) FIRST ROUND'S PAIRINGS will be made with the SERPENTINE method by TN:
Board A will be: lowest TN vs. highest - Board B: 2nd lowest vs. 2nd highest - and so on.
5) TIEBREAKING. The "BEST CUMULATIVES' SUM SYSTEM" will be used. If it doesn't help, the lower TN will be favoured.
6) GAMES NOT STARTED (BYE). If a player skip one or more games of a Match then:
- The player who showed up gets 2 VP for the first game not started and 1 VP for the remaining games not started.
- The player who forfeited gets -1 VP for the first and 0 for the others.
So if a player skips an entire Match the result will be 6 to -1. No more penalties, no disqualifications.

What is a "round" and what is a "match"
Do we play 5 games against the same player (a "match) before being assigned another opponent? The completion of all matches being a "round"?

The last tournament we had 1 week for 2 games. What time frame are we planning on per round or match?

If I understand it correctly, this one will be 35 games total with no playoffs. Is that correct?

A Round is the entirety of the Matches played at the same time. Each player plays one Match per Round. A Match is 5 games against the same player (GvI, IvG, FvA, AvF, Duo). So one player will play 5 games x 7 rounds = 35 games in the Tournament.

About the "timing" matter nothing was decided (although discussed) so the Tournament-Master (fasces349) can decide about it.

About timing, it will probably be 2-3 weeks a round. I would prefer 2, but due to time constraints 5 games in 3 weeks seems fair.

Guaroz is correct in assuming that this should be moved into the other thread, any more questions will be answered there, so asking there is preferable.

I would love to play, but what are we talking about when you say "time constraints?" Meaning virtually live games? Cause I doubt I could do that.

I have a lot of personal things going on right now and can't commit, but please PM me before it begins. If things clear up before the cup starts, I will join.

its not live, however 3-5 games running at a time for ~3-5 months may be difficult for people to commit to.

@devonian, I would be very disappointed if the defending champ doesn't even participate ;(. Don't worry I know what its like for rl to get in the way, good luck and hope to see you in the future.

If the tournament starts next week, how long will it take until the tournament has finished?

Being 2-3 weeks a Match x 7 Rounds, it should never be longer than 21 weeks (the last Cup took 26 weeks) but rather shorter, I'd bet 18-19. This is due to the new formula.
Please consider that if you skip a game or even an entire Match then you're not disqualified, you only get a little penalty. Obviousely if you miss games you can't hope in the final victory but a good placement is pretty likely for a good player who missed only a few games. That said, we hope nobody misses games, of course. What I mean is that if you'll have some RL issue this won't become a Tournament issue.

Please consider also how funny is the tournament's formula (Danish). Each Round you will be pitted against a player who has done as well (or as bad) as you did until then. So Matches are always interesting and theoretically balanced. No predictable Matches like "the first against the last" (as it happens in Round Robin Tournaments) that are boring both for the first and for the last .
