Expect less diplomacy from me if you're in a game with me
Sadly, I just got news that I won't be able to be on much. Over a month ago, I ordered a new PC from Dell because my old one was dying. I've spent the last month getting dicked around by Dell about when they're going to get the new one to me. Meanwile, the old one has finally finished dying. I can get on enough to do orders, but that's about it. Sorry.

alliance chat
I dont know how difficult that would be, but is it possible to allow players copen chats with more than two players?
This would be very useful for alliances, espessially in bigger maps...

FoW in Attack of the Rats
AotR variant includes the Fog of the War rule.
In Classic-FoW there's a rule: "Territories with a support-center: See their current territory + every territory that share a border with them"
It seems that rat's non-home support-centers don't see their neighbour territories.

New EXTEND feature. One question and one worry.
Inside
Guaroz (2030 D (B))
15 Mar 12 UTC

First of all, it looks a good idea.
I may feel more cosy voting an Extend than a Pause, because I know _for sure_ how long it will last and because there's no need to vote unpause.
Actually, I've never minded voting a Pause. If someone is asking for it, it's because he knows RL is taking him away from PC and he fears he'll NMR one or more turns.
So it would be very bad sportmanship by me not voting it. And, if I win, it'd be a victory I couldn't be proud of. Actually, it would be rather a shame.

But perhaps there are some players here who once had an issue with someone not coming back from the pause after, say, 3 weeks.
Not a big issue, just call a mod and say "Hey, that guy has disappeared! It's 3 weeks now! Could you please force unpause?". But probably they're too shy to call mods and so they prefer not voting pauses.
No comment. Because now, with this new feature, shy people can feel confident in voting Extend, because they know it's just for 4 days. No mods' intervention needed, if someone disappears.
So:

1) My question. Sorry all for my bad english, I can't get the "...and push the time back once more each time." meaning. Could someone please rephrase it for me?

2) My worry. A couple of times, I've met 2 bastards (I can't remember their nick) who didn't vote a pause basically because "So he will miss the turn". Frankly, I hope they had a 2-months-long dysentery for that. That looks like very bad sportsmanship.
But my point is: what if I meet one of these bastards, say in a gunboat, and they don't vote the extension I need for weekend? If you ask them, they'd reply: "Oh...sorry...I didn't notice that an extension poll was going on...". Well. Ok. So, what if some player, culpably even if not intentionally, "doesn't notice" that somebody asked for an extension?
I'd have to call mods anyway....
So. Wouldn't it be possible to make it by majority? say 2/3 or 3/5 of active players? It's just for 4 days... Thoughts?
butterhead (1272 D)
15 Mar 12 UTC
1) what it means is that you can all vote for the extend, it will extend the phase, and then in the same phase if more time is needed another extend can be voted for and it will further extend the deadline by 4 days...
as far as 2) I agree with that, I'd say make it 3/4ths though(which requires more than 3/5ths or 2/3rds but not everybody).
Oli (977 D Mod (P))

I wanted to do 2/3 at first, but this requires a major code rewrite. The all need to vote was a surprising easy change and I might change this to 2/3 sometimes later...
Guaroz (2030 D (B))
15 Mar 12 UTC
Thank you, my friend. It's clear now. :)

Well, the majority size is widely debatable, I was just proposing. It could be 75% like you said.
But I believe that, once 60% or 66% of active players have voted the extension, we should be sure that noone is finding excuses to delay the game indefinitely.

Nobody should refuse to vote an extension. So the first idea that came to my mind was that you can press "extend" and have your 4-days pause. It was a bad idea. Some idiot kid could press it every 4 days and stick the game.
So we need more than 1 person. But what if 2 agreed to stick the game? Better having at least 51% of people.

So whatever is between 51% and 75% is good for me.
Guaroz (2030 D (B))

Uh! Ok, Oli thanks. :)
I was just about to ask you if it was doable.
G-Man (2466 D)
15 Mar 12 UTC
Ditto on Guaroz's first post. I haven't been here long, but I've already heard people say that they won't vote for a pause in a situation where someone asked because real life was interfering with their Diplomacy. I like the majority idea.
fasces349 (1007 D)

well the issue on the other side is what if 1 player is a turn from soloing and the other ~3 players choose to extend the phase over and over again?

Its easier for mods to intervene and extend a phase (at least I think it is) with not everyone voting then have the mods force the turn to advance (well they're both feasible, however the issue with the second was is that anyone who hasn't finalized yet will be forced with all holds.)
Guaroz (2030 D (B))
15 Mar 12 UTC
Haha! Well, if 1 player is a turn from soloing and the other ~3 players choose to extend the phase more than 2 times, I guess that that player will complain with mods. Then you:
1) see who's voting 'extend' the 3rd time in a row
2) as the vote passes, unpause the game
3) let the winner win - who cares if uncorrect sore losers would be forced with all holds
4) give to those who voted the 3rd time, a 100 D penalty.
5) open a thread and tell the story to everybody.
After that, nobody will try it again, I'm sure. No more annoyings for mods.

But that was a clear example. I guess there could be grey areas where mods will have harder decision to make.
Anyway, a 4-day extension should not be an issue for anyone. That's why I like it. That's why it should be easier than a unanimous vote. So even harder decisions won't be that hard, IMHO.

I concur with Guaroz again. Very logical.
fasces349 (1007 D)
15 Mar 12 UTC
There probably would be grey area, I was just thinking of a good example where a majority not consensus could cause a severe annoyance.

But yeah, there will always be someone trying to abuse the system, which ever way we end up leaning, and I guess odds are there would be more cases of people refusing to extend the phase in order to cheat then people purposely extending the phase in order to cheat.

Just tested the code on my private server. 2/3 is easier than I thought. I'll implement this in the next few days.
