One last thing for now. Updated map and colored in Portugal as neutral, like it should be.

Owned SCs: 37
Unowned SCs: 17
Total: 54 SCs
28 SCs to solo

Looks pretty good, except there are certain spots where the Scs are concentrated. I'm playing a test game of a variant with the same problem (as France). In your variant it looks like France or England could have the same sort of problem as the Kalmar Union. Also an Austria-Prussia alliance could get lots of SCs very quickly.

A possible suggestion is to add in the Azores like Europe 1939 did to give incentive for Spain and England to have conflicts. Maybe?
We'll see. I think Britain might have an expansion issue, but it's really defensible and it does have a true freebie in Norway. I think it'll play like Italy in standard, but significantly stronger due to a higher initial SC count and a lack of existential threats nearby -- which would be in line with the way Britain saw itself in 1815 ("splendid isolation" with the ability to play kingmaker if a continental threat, like Napoleonic France, arises). France might have issues (and need a buff, if you can imagine, to replicate its 1815 strength), but I don't think expansion is one of them. (And an Austria-Prussia alliance might be problematic, agreed. We'll see.)

But then, that's what the playtesting will be for!
Ooh, Azores addition could be fun. I'll think about it. Main thing about adding SCs at this point is that I need to yank or add one somewhere else. (Sorry drano, I do like 2-way draws as an option. ;) )
TheWorst (1023 D)

Hah, I mainly suggested it because I saw all that empty space in the MAO and it looks like Azores could fit in there.
France can go for it as well, though you may need to rearrange the seas/supply centers so that everyone has an equal chance of gaining it.

@ President Eden :

If you have an odd number of SCs, you can still offer the option of a 2-way Draw by setting the Victory Conditions for a solo at x/2+1,5. If, for example, you have 55 SCs, you can set the solo requirement at 29 SCs.
Darkarus (929 D)

@Drano what I meant was that you could prevent a draw unless they vote for a draw
drano019 (2710 D Mod)

Prevent what draw? A 2 way draw? Are you referring to my comment about how I like odd numbered SC counts so there can't be 2 way draws?

I still don't understand Darkarus. What does "you could prevent a draw unless they vote for a draw" mean? I like odd number of SCs because it prevents people from allying early on with the intention to simply 2 way draw instead of trying to solo.
Surprise update! Dramatic redrawing of Germany and Italy. Map is still (reasonably) historically accurate, and this time with much more sensible borders in Germany and balanced supply center distribution at game start.

MAP: http://i.imgur.com/rAgneMp.png

Change log

Miscellaneous:
* Water recolored to lighter shade of blue; in-between old shade and vDip standard.
* Numbered provinces have been renumbered to follow geography more logically.
* Caucasus borders fixed to be of similar quality to the rest of the borders on the map.
Germany:
* Duesseldorf renamed to Ruhr.
* Ruhr demoted from supply center to regular.
* Silesia partitioned:
+ Silesia reduced to actual historical Silesia (outside of Breslau, which remains untouched).
+ Berlin expanded to annex strip of former-Silesia separating it from Saxony.
+ Frankfurt created from westernmost piece of Silesia.
* Frankfurt promoted from regular to supply center.
* Ostpreussen broken into two provinces:
+ Lebusland formed from section of former-Ostpreussen annexed from Poland during the Third Partition.
+ Ostpreussen remains as historical part of eastern Prussia.
* Wurzburg annexed into Franken.
* Rhine Confederation renamed to Rhineland.
* Hesse-Kassel renamed to Hessia.
Italy:
* Modena annexed into Parma.
* Parma demoted from supply center to regular.
* Papal States renamed to Rome.
Anatolia:
* Smyrna annexes the part of Syria that is actually in modern Turkey. [Editor's Note: This slight geographic snafu actually should affect balance significantly, and positively; Erzurum no longer borders Syria, reducing the threat that a convoy there might cause, and more importantly, Smyrna now borders Armenia, giving Russia and Ottomans equal opportunity on Caucasus.]
Spain:
* Galicia renamed to Vigo in keeping with province-naming consistency.

Provinces:

Great Britain
Supply Centers: London, Essex, Liverpool, Edinburgh, Dublin
Provinces: Midlands, Wales, York, Scotland, Ireland

France

Also, could you specify the starting positions?
I've also decided on starting positions.

Great Britain: fleet London, fleet Essex, fleet Dublin, fleet Edinburgh, army Liverpool.
France: fleet Nantes, fleet Marseilles, army Paris, army Dijon, army Orleans.
Spain: fleet Barcelona, fleet Sevilla, fleet Vigo, army Madrid.
Netherlands: fleet Amsterdam, army Brugge, army Breda, army Brussels.
Prussia: army Berlin, army Danzig, army Frankfurt, army Breslau, army Koblenz.
Russia: fleet St. Petersburg (sc), fleet Sevastopol, army Moscow, army Warsaw, army Kiev.
Austria: fleet Zagreb, army Vienna, army Budapest, army Venice, army Krakow.
Ottomans: fleet Athens, fleet Erzurum, army Constantinople, army Smyrna.
Lol, beat me to the punch! Just posted.
Minor update. I fixed the border I referenced in the change log; apparently I forgot to actually do it... also, changed up the colors on Russia and the Ottomans. They pretty strongly resemble EU3 colors at this point, which is the aim, because their colors are really nice. I also managed to squeeze SEV into the province, so one fewer numeral! Yeah!

I promise I'll stop spamming eventually. The above, with another minor correction. Contrary to popular belief, Crete and Cyprus are not sovereign states.

Have you read the wiki about the variant-making?
At the moment there are 3 files missing four your variant. (smallmap, smallmapNames and mapNames)
Ah, I thought I could do one at a time. I've been putting off reformatting the map to submit all of the files because it's time consuming, but it appears I need to do that before I can start programming

I've got 2 games on the go that I'd rather not CD - a WWII gunboat most importantly, and a Europe 1939 full press game. I'm away from the 30th to the 10th of June, so would somebody mind taking over for that period?

Feature Suggestion: Delayed Vote Notification?
In the age of the mobile smart phone, it is quite common for people to accidentally hit a button they don't mean to, which usually breaks up the global chat and causes an extra envelope to show up for every player in the game.

I tried to install the webserver on a local server for testing purposes and ran into some problems:
1) the documentations do not seem to match the downloaded folder
2) it seems like there are .sql files missing
3) when installing all .sql-files manually (in order) the webserver gives the following error message: "Error triggered: Unknown column 'u.showCountryNamesMap' in 'field list'."

Appears to be a problem in the coding of the Youngstown World War II map
I'm currently playing Italy in a Youngstown World War II map, and I've run into a problem. The supply zone of Tirane is very obviously drawn so that it's adjacent to the Ionian Sea, but the game will not let me order a movement from the Ionian into Tirane.

Greetings to all the men and women of VDip! I had an idea that I think will help us grow as a community, and get to know each other better. I'd like to know more about you! Feel free to give as much, or as little, detail as you wish. things you can include would be your birthday, age, location, career/schooling, etc. etc. This will help us bond with each other, as well as get some good stats on the demographics on the site!
