I would like to try an anonymous WWIV game, I think it would be really interesting like you said. But 35 seems a little steep to me, and I would assume several other players on the site that might not have a ton of D points. I think more people might be willing to join if the bet were smaller (10-15).

we've got 9 days to find out! i made the bet 35 and WTA condition to see if there are 35 players that want to risk it. its pretty outrageous, I know, but i have used it merely as an extension of this thread, so players can weigh in.

Those of you who dont want to risk it, but still are interested in an anon WWIV game, reply here as well!

In some cases I agree that people hold grudges and recognize player tags but in others knowing who you are facing can help as Tyran said. btw I don't know if this is a personal preference but i prefer non WTA when playing :p, do you guys?

ive never actually played WTA, as an outsider, I look at it like a lottery, not necessarily "the most skilled person will win, taking all the points", but more, if your stars align, you can win. idk though, I would love to try it!

I think that anyone who considers themselves anymore more than a novice should ONLY play in WTA games. The PPSC model only works (awarding points per supply center) when a solo victory occurs. Otherwise all points are split in a draw. The PPSC games (currently the default setting for all new games here) actually encourages players to allow another player to solo because they will sometimes be awarded more points if the facilitate a solo. This is positively a bastardization of the game that should be avoided by anyone taking the game at all seriously.

Solos in Diplomacy should be rare. When you achieve one, you treasure it, and when you suffer one, you should hang your head in shame. Learning to (and worse - continuing to) play the game, allowing solos is bad form. And if you ever look to stray from this small pond, you'll be ridiculed and detested. I think there are dome people who play exactly for those reasons. But if you have an ounce of respect for yourself and want others to share that view, play WTA games.

RUFFHAUS - I disagree that PPSC is completely rubbish, but I'm not going to go into that... What I am going to say is that a high-bet WWIV with 50SC Victory Conditions should be PPSC. I'm certain you'll understand the reasoning behind this without me having to go into any more detail.

WWIV should never be 50 sc's for a solo, it should be 50% + 1, if you solo that, congrats and they should be extremely rare.

A solo should indeed be rather exceptional but I totally disagree about the 50% + 1 SCs Victory Condition for the WWIV map ! I am CERTAIN that it is IMPOSSIBLE to win a WWIV game if the solo requires 123 SCs (unless MASSIVE CDs and/or NMRs of course).

By the way, no WWIV game was NEVER won, here on this site, with Victory Conditions of more than 50 SCs !

Also, on this site :

1° 69 Classic games out of 130 have ended in a solo and nobody is shocked about that, although it means that a little more than 53 % of all the classic games ended in a solo !

2° 11 WWIV games out of 31 have ended in a solo and some players are complaining about the fact a victory with 50 SCs is too easy, although here, only a little more than 35 % of all the WWIV games ended in a solo !
