In the podcast, I note that you mentioned I was not credited by Badfrog (the developers) for creating KW901. Actually, if you click the "i" button on the top right of the launch page of the app, it does list the creators of the various maps on the app.

Oh does it? Well that isn't very intuitive nor representing (IMHO) appropriate recognition!

Happy to be proved wrong, having said that there has been a recent update to the app.

@Amby: Well, I would have preferred deification, but you can't have everything.

@Kaner: I think that has been there for a while.

Do you have an issue with the word "dude"? It's a useful word.

If you are talking to me, I just find it very weird that anyone would call any female, much less their mother, a "dude".

I would think some females could be dudes... It would be more of a behavioral thing though I would think.

I mean, "guys" has very solidly reached the point where it's a gender neutral plural, so I could see something similar happening with 'dude'.

On the other hands, 'guys' is very neutral as a descriptor, while 'dude' is charged with connotations, so unless you're confident both you and the audience agree those connotations are positive (or it is your intent to give offence), it may not be the most appropriate descriptor.

...on the other hand, if you're the type to use it unironically at all then it's probably a fitting self-descriptor, at least.

I'm not of fan of using either "guy" or "dude" as a gender neutral term. "Guy" started out as a man's first name, and then evolved into a generic word for a man. "Dude" was a generic word for a man all along. So, they are both masculine terms, and not any better than the generic "he" that started the whole gender neutral argument about the English language somewhere around 50 years ago. I think "they"/"them" remains the best option.

Dude, in my experience, refers to those in a certain group of people. There's not really a fixed/consistent definition, but it's essentially those who aren't overly concerned with authority, most commonly school or such - not necessary actively opposing it, but rather ignoring it.

Guy is masculine, guys is referring to a group of people that does not have a large female majority.

Maybe the next podcast episode needs to be titled Guys and Dudes?
