I play webdip pretty seriously, I play here frequently but for fun, just testing out things

I play mostly over here, I made the move entirely about 4 months ago.

I mostly play here. The annonymous setting is a massive plus on this site. I found that there are some alliances on the other site that aren't on this site which makes it for a much more enjoyable experience. I'm still noo good at the game though!

I find that the variation available on this site is much better (map wise than WebDip).

As for WebDip if I wish to play a classic game I go there, here I feel is a more interesting mix of players who are willing to play different scenarios regardless of the outcome.

I think that the games over here are more fun and less serious than those games being played by the hard-core dip heads over@f WebDip.

having said that I'm a member of both sites with the same name/callsign, but I simply enjoy playing variant that are different from a. the status quo, and b. maps that promote a different/new approach to strategy.

Yeah, anonymous is definitely available on WebDip.

I'm pretty addicted to Diplomacy in all its myriad forms, so I like both sites. That one for classic (and the occasional World IX), this one for everything else.

I'm clearly not thinking of the right site. Do you mean the one on facebook? Is there a link to the WebDip please?

Joined here first. Checked out webdip and, to be honest, don't see the point of being over there when Vdip has the same versions plus more. Something I am missing...?

There's more active members over there, it's nearly impossible to get a 7 player live game started in half an hour time here.

So just for live originals?

For example, I doubt there are Ghost Ratings here.

@LoveDove -- I have enjoyed playing here with you and some other competent players. However, there are far fewer CDs and NMRs at webdip (unless you really get into the novice games). There are a lot more players over there, and a lot more serious players.

well, there aren't Ghost Ratings over here (I doubt the validity of such a system with so many different variants being played), but there is a very cool Stats page which I reckon is pretty damn cool.

@Rancher, but does the lack of variants make it worth it? Are there only three over there? That seems like it would get really old. I can only play classic so many times!

I play most of the times on webdip (mostly leagues and tournaments), but I like to play here to. So kind of similar answer to the one Rancher gave earlier.

I hate ordering anything more than 17 units...so I don't like playing large maps. I remember playing a gunboat World IX in webdip, and I got to over 20 units as Brazil...nightmare. In the end we did a 3-way draw...I don't like AncMed either, basically the alliances split 3-2, and whoever is on the wrong side, is screwed. In the 7-player Classic Diplomacy there are usually more than 2 factions and the balance is better.

I'm more competitive on this site at the moment, because I need to start saving up my GhostRatings...with my 500-odd ranking I suck.

By the way, Kestas should make the stats page for Webdip too.

BTW You could do it and save Kestas th e time. He built the site. What did you do?

well, I grew up playing the real game face to face since 1980 ... so while I find some variants fun here, I still like to do my serious playing in classic (and some anc med) on webdip

I wonder if the code Oli developed could be applied to the Webdip site?

The code is public available. But kestas is a much better programmer than me. My code-changes are more "hacks", so he might code them much better.
And besides the variants this site is almost exactly a copy of webdip.
One exception is the stats-page, but stats about just the classic-version are not that interesting and will require quite a lot of processing-power to generate.

One thing I have noticed is that Webdip is much easier to get on a 5 min phase game.

webdip could generate the stats once a month... actually now that i think about it, if i could get a server running, i could take this code and modify the stats page to do just that. (ie, only display the stats from a cached page and once a month generate a new version.... hmm)

oh and on topic, i play almost exclusively on webdip, but when i want to play a vs game i come here...

by the way, great work on the ClassicVS, i really like this variant.
