Some of you with a bit more experience at vDip can clue me in here.

How does vDip currently adjudicate when more than one player meets the SC requirement for victory simultaneously? More details below.

vDiplomacy Forum Mafia
Would anyone be interested in playing forum based Mafia / Werewolf here, on the vDip forum?
Jamie_T (937 D)
Sun 10 Sep UTC
Mafia, if you're unaware of it, is a guessing / deduction based game with two (or more) opposing teams. It's also known as "Werewolf". It's a fun game played face to face among many groups, and also on a range of web forums.

There is an active Mafia sub-community on the webDip forum. Since there are several webDip refugees here on vDip, and since vDip doesn't seem to have a Mafia game, and since Fluminator suggested it.... I'm asking the question.

Who would be interested in playing?

How do you manage scum-chat with more than two scum? Or do you just restrict to 9 player games so that's not an issue and you can just PM each other?

Tentatively interested, though.

@Mouse: The usual approach is to give the minority scum team a Quicktopic space where they are allowed, only at night, to talk.

I'm wondering why people feel the need to say "mute thread" instead of just muting it. Is it some sign of protest? So silly.

I would play here.
Jamie_T (937 D)
Mon 11 Sep UTC
@Mapu: Not as much of a disadvantage as you might think - because if people have never seen you play before, they can't analyse your past behaviour to look for clues.

In established Mafia groups there's a lot of "Oh, well, Bob always behaves like that when he's scum..." which a newbie is immune from.

However there is a bit of a learning curve.

I appear to have four interested people, five if you add me. I will look into setting up a game towards the end of this month.

I might actually be interested. But I may not have the time.

I don't think I'd want a game unless we got up to 9, honestly. Only one day before LyLo isn't enough to actually go on...

This isn't terribly time-intensive, right? If that's the case I might be cautiously interested, have really enjoyed this as a f2f game.
Jamie_T (937 D)
Mon 11 Sep UTC
@Abadu - phases are generally a couple of days long. You are expected to actively contribute each phase - but that doesn't mean you need to log in every hour or anything like that.

Excellent.

I propose a relatively vanilla game, no crazy roles, which I will GM to get us started, starting in a few weeks. Watch the forum for updates.

I will be in if the phases are two+ days.
Jamie_T (937 D)
Fri 15 Sep UTC
Just to give you lovely folks an update, I've had a couple of off-site messages expressing interest too, so I'm quietly confident we can get to 10+ players which will give us a viable game.

Over the weekend I will post the rules and some information about the set-up, and we can start taking sign-ups for an early October start.

I will GM the first one, yes. It will have a fairly normal setup. Nothing too silly for the first game, as some people will not have played before.
Jamie_T (937 D)

Well since Brainbomb has started a sign-up list, I can confirm an early(ish) October start, phases will be 48 hours for the day, 24 hours for the night (which is normal).

@Jamie, why the no plus-oneing rule?
Jamie_T (937 D)
Mon 18 Sep UTC

Good question, Ubercacher.

It was introduced because in one particular game on webDip, as I recall, some dead/eliminated players were attempting to influence the game by giving a +1 when someone on their team made a correct guess.

(Once you die you get full access to the behind-the-scenes information so you know who is Town and who is Mafia)

Advertise your NON-live games here!
In an effort to compromise the pro-ads versus anti-ads for games: Post here for your non-live games to cut down on the number of ads but still advertise games. Post game link, WTA or PPSC, and the bet. Note: this doesn't count for special rules games.

Known World Tournament
Awhile back, kaner proposed a Known World gunboat tournament in which 15 participants would play 15 games, one with each nation. I searched back for the thread, then just decided to start a new one. I want to see if there would be sufficient interest in this to try to get it off the ground.

obsolete Sengoku variant
Hi all, designer of Sengoku here. I would love to get the latest version of Sengoku in use on this system, as it is much more balanced. Found here: http://dipwiki.com/index.php?title=Sengoku
Even if the DP system, can't be used, the version at http://nairenvorbeck.angelfire.com/ is still better than the one in use currently. Poor Mori needs a fair chance :-) Anyone willing/able to help me get these implemented?

1900 for vDip: Progress Report (ongoing)
As mentioned in another thread, I've been working on the code and assets necessary to port Baron M. Powell's variant 1900 to vDip and/or webDip.

In order to keep myself accountable in some fashion to actually complete this task, and not just talk about it, I've created a small project plan where I can mark my progress.

Is England* vs Turkey truly balanced?
The stats spread on England* vs Turkey is innocuous enough. England* wins 55% of games which do not end in a draw, Turkey wins 45%. England is favored, but not to the extent that Turkey can't win; the game is not balanced, but it also isn't drastically skewed either way.

However, I have recently encountered an opening from England that I'm struggling to counter as Turkey.

Force drawn games
Games with fixed end year are (for ranking purposes) treated like solo victories for the power with the largest SC tally (even when PPSC scoring is used). Is that intentional? Not that I think it matters much to me, but I do find it rather odd, it would seem like the more logical approach would be that they are treated as force drawn, or possibly use affect ranking differently depending on scoring system used.
