Retracting messages
Is there any support for the idea that you can retract a message to another player before they have read it?
I have just sent the wrong message to the wrong player. I would like to take it back, as he has not seen it. What do people think?

Youngstown Redux2 gulfs bug?
gameID=6669 2 powers each allowed post fleet orders move to non-adjoining Gulf. - G. of T (Tonkin) on map separated both by SChinaSea. G. of Thailand (spelled out) on map separate. France submits: "fleet at Cambodia support move to Gulf of Thailand from Saigon." - Saigon move succeeded except that it is now adjacent to Vietnam in Gulf of Tonkin. - Likewise, Britain orders fleet Borneo to Gulf of Thailand. Maps show Borneo fleet attempt to go to Gulf of T(onkin), not Thailand gulf

Question on variant page
In the variant description it speaks of turn length. is this years? movement turns? I would like to propose that it be changed to __ game years, to avoid Dip33 asking "it takes 14 years to finish this game?0.o"

A Quick Question About Viking Dip
I was just wondering something about the viking map after observing it, why does it only take 26 supply centers, when there are 85 total on the map?

Just Some Ideas I had....
Hey guys, I'd like to get your opinions on some ideas I've had since there has been a lot of variant ideas floating around. I've been wanting to get into design, but I'm not sure how far I will get or how much time I'm going to have available (busy time this year, College starts in the fall) anyway I'd just like to get all your take on some ideas I've had.

Statistics and usefulness
I find stats really useful. However they do not represent real games. And this is important for a variant map designer. That is if France wins a lot in my variant then some changes ought to be made. but stats here should not represent games with NMR's and changed VCs

colonial rule?
Is there a game or way to implement the colonial rule?

That is you assign the build you want to take place next year in a non-home supply center if that center is open and in your ownership.
Alternatively, builds are only valid for home supply centers

Could we see some more 1vs1 variants simliar to Frankland vs Juggernaut? Perhaps any combination of countries. Just so you can play a game on multiple fronts. Maybe like an England/Turkey vs France/Russia or some other combo. I think that would be cool.

Perhaps one where you have to get all of the SCs to win. would make for a long multi player game, but on a 1 vs 1, it would be seriously different.

I've ALWAYS wanted one where you have to get all the centers(although I want it for say classic and other ones like that).

I am new to vdiplomacy but the most fun I have had with face to face variants is the draft formate.

So you figure out who picks first ..... Seventh and you have an up down draft for 4 supply centers. Those are your four home SC and you start with whatever units you want there (placed either once you draft them or as your first turn)

I do not know how complicated it would be to set up but like I said it is by far the funniest variant I have done.

Here's one I found interesting:

http://www.dipwiki.com/index.php?title=Speed_Europa

Essentially a rebalance of the standard map, with more spaces and more SCs, with an emphasis on allowing the different powers to interact with each other quickly. Notably, Italy's fleet in Naples is only two turns from Smyrna, and St. Petersburg is only two turns from Edinburgh.

If someone tries adapting this one though, may I reccomend redrawing the borders a little? It's hard to understand some of the changes, like the Bulgaria and Rumania splits.

Love both the DRAFT idea and ABERRATION. It's been a while since I played Aberration, While I enjoy Aberration, I do remember leaving the last game I played with the feeling that the variant could use a few modifications to give the central powers a better chance..

Back on the subject of 1v1 variants, why not include E/F/R vs G/A/T with a neutral Italy (including neutral Italian units) like a 1v1 FtF game would be?

All the 2 player variants on the classic map are in my opinion, too easy. They need to get like 27-32 SC's for the win. Just grabbing one more than half endsthe game too fast.
Guaroz (2030 D (B))

+1 for ODaly.
Also EAvsGT would be good. We tried it as 2v2 (teams) in ClassicVS:
gameID=3864
gameID=3879
and they were very exciting games. I believe that also 1v1 they should be great! Deep into tactics!
Holy crap. 27-32? Do you realize how impossible it would be to win such a variant? No competent player should ever lose simply because each power can easily grab a stalemate position of around 12ish centers and chill.

I'm also not sure how the SC count could make them easier or harder to win as the count is right now. The simple majority actually seems very fair because evenly-matched players get evenly-matched results. Make it too few and it comes down to who can maximize their maximum gain without worrying about interference; make it too many and it comes down to grabbing a minimalist stalemate position. Leave it at 50%+1 and you have a game...

Hi everyone, I'm new to this site and mainly came here because of variants.
I was especially interested in the Chaos one - where every supply centre has a country - and the World Diplomacy one, and that got me thinking - how about mixing the two together?
Yes, at first it sounds stupid - you would need over eighty people, for one - but delve into it further, and it's not such a bad idea.
If you put on a FOW further than two spaces away from your units, then it would become like a tribal warfare to start; small civilizations, civil wars and not much information about lands far away. It would then develop into a 'civilization stage' - countries would form in certain areas as 'tribes' conquered more supply centers; then you would have wars around continents.
Lastly, when countries grew big enough, an 'empire stage' would come. This would be much like normal World Diplomacy.
Of course, the stages aren't defined - they are just guidelines as to what I think would happen.
Also, lack of communication would make the game interesting - countries could only communicate with others who they have 'discovered' (in other words, seen one of their supply centers or units).
It would make an incredibly interesting, if slightly long-winded, game mode. The biggest drawback I can see is that you need so many people.

Also, the area of territories above Afganistan will have to be merged into one or two territories. It would seclude Afganistan too much otherwise.

It would have to be build everywhere - and do SCs on the Antarctic make sense in this scenario?

PANGAEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Captainmeme (1400 D Mod (B))
15 Feb 12 UTC
Hmmm... The Antarctic would cause a problem, especially with the Norwegian Dependancy (I think that's what it's called) meaning that anyone who got in there could attack a large number of SCs. It would have to be refined or removed, I think.

I wish I had more time for my crowded, armored-trains-instead-of-fleets-convoying-over-Siberia Russian Civil War variant for 21 players, each one representing an important military leader operating in that area around that time.
Myself538 (1018 D)

Don't ridicule me for this, but since fleets can convoy armies across water, why can't army's convoy fleets across land? It would be an unusual idea.

butterhead (1272 D)

I think the problem(well problem AND solution) would be it would make life miserble for those defending from an attack.... Just imagine Turkey convoying a fleet from Smyrna to St. Petersburg NC to get past an Italian/French/English Blockade... but it would be fun to see.

Target SC count
Looks interesting. Although in Fubar, fatflap starts with 10 SCs and 18 are required for victory. So, the minimum number of SCs is greater than the default setting. Interesting.
