Real Skip a Word Word Association Thread
So the rules are simply and more intuitive than some other skip a word threads. You do word association with the word two back, so two word association threads intertwine. My first word in "Orange".

I want to leave a game
Dear Oli,
I am a new player and so I am restricted as to the number of games I can join. However one of my two games has crashed and abandoned (http://vdiplomacy.com/board.php?gameID=4015) but an alternative has been made for it. If there is a way you could get me out of the game, or collapse the game totally, anyway to free me to join the new one, that'd be wonderful. Thanks!

The Germany v Italy Test (brought up again)
Apparently, the GvI map is not as unbalanced as might be. The fact that Devonian can win 4-0 on that map against Guaroz (and for that matter, Guaroz 4-0 me) means Italy has a genuine chance at winning.

Looking at the way Devonian wins his games, he prefers getting into Tri/Pie in F 1901. I wish to test if that method stands up.

I've thought about that as well! But it would be kinda hard to create the countries and it would probably just seem like a 'fantasy world' map again.. I mean, armies would have little or no use at all..

That was not exactly what I was thinking about. I'll see if I can't make a drawing of something, but that did seem interesting. And no, Diplomat, I will be staying on this site a little while longer.

i think it was on the playdiplomacy forum, but i can't be sure. I believe it involved the movement of planets in relation to a sun.

That would definitely make a very interesting game. I don't particularly care how the interface goes, so long as I can kick ass in space.

space seems like a messy place to send your armies.

on the other hand, having fleets orbiting a planet seems like a great idea if you're going to bombard the place, but not if you intend on taking supply centers.

ok - so idea of what space-type sci-fi battles would be like is largely dependent on the author.

I am taking Babylon5-esque combat as it is well defined (ie there are many wars and combat scene in the tv series, and it makes some sense, unlike DS9 which is rather ambiguous and messy, and i think involves infinite energy in some replicators... but i digress)

How about making the planets small islands to be fought over with multiple supply centers. And require that armies only use up 1/5th of a supply center. (i'm torn on this figure, somewhere between 1/3 and 1/10)

Now armies will not be fighting fleets (so there is no need to worry about relative combat strength) and fleets will be vital for convoying and blocking reinforcements from arriving... but planets will be where the action occurs, and will effectively be separate sub-maps of their own.

Of course giving a fleet the ability to destroy supply centers would really shake things up (with multiple centers on a given planet, and assuming you could only destroy one center per year)... could be an interesting variant. hmm...
It would be fascinating if a 3 D version of Diplomacy would be released. That would make a Space Diplomacy variant very playable as well as very realistic.

there is a 3-D version of civilisation...

formerly called space civ, but they had to change the name, it is now called cosmic supremacy. alas I'm not sure how good it is...

3-d sounds epic

Alright, so here's what I'm envisioning right now. A future world where human kind has begun to conquer the closest planets to us. The map would be relatively small, only going so far as, say, the Oort Cloud. Most planets, except the four inner ones, would be a single Supply Center with some moons serving as SC's as well. (And we can, of course, include certain comets or meteors that aren't necessarily planets, but would provide tactical resources as SC's.) The Asteroid Belt would hold a few SC's, but would mostly serve as a buffer between the planets. The main countries would have their home SC's focused on Earth, Mars, or the Moon, and would include an outpost or two on a far away planet such as Saturn. For the most part, armies would remain on the Earth, where people fight over their home ports while others attempted to conquer more distant planets and to leave Earth behind. The fleets would travel through space and convoy armies around if needed. (Build anywhere would seem like a good idea.) Only armies could conquer SC's, but fleets could occupy them for the sake of protection...and yes, 3-D would be epic.

Nevertheless, I am not in charge here, you all can do whatever you want.

I've added the option to set a definite end of the game during gamecreate.
