variants?
Another one i wanted to bring up is a normal game, but as u see in the 5 and six player variant, all initially neutral SC's would have a unit in there. they cannot move, will auto disband, etc. Italy would have to go east or west for a 1901 build, a French-English war would be futile, and Russia's fleet sevastapol would be mega bored. think about it

have there been any advances in the origanal two+ player board game variant?
Six Players: Eliminate Italy. Italian units hold in position and defend themselves, but don’t support each other. Units belonging to any of the players can support them in their holding position. If Italian units are forced to retreat, they’re disbanded.
Five Players: Eliminate Italy and Germany (as described for Italy above).
Four Players: England; Austria/France, Germany/Turkey, and Italy/Russia.
Three Players:England/Germany/Austria; , Russia/Italy; France/Turkey.
Two Players: England/France/Russia (controlled by one) Austria/Germany/Turkey (controlled by other) Italy is neutral and Italian territory can’t be entered. Italy joins a player spring 1901(/1915)
I think thatd be a nifty, "retro" addition to the site.

how would you score for the Eliminate Italy?
All of these seem very feasible. For the eliminate x variants, you would just have them be neutral forces, like Genève, Trento and Trieste in Rinascimento.

I've played several of these as "team" games and the four player version is quite flawed. France/Austria is so much weaker and the Italy/Russia is so much stronger that the game breaks down. I've played the reenacted WWI twice. Now maybe it is my natural brilliance as a player, but the Central Powers won both times. Once I was Austria and once I was Turkey and both times I convinced Italy to join us and then it was all over.

Also the second WWI game, we made England and Turkey wait for the Fall turn. The first time, Turkey and I had pretty much crippled Russia by the end of the first year, and Russia spent the rest of the game holed up in Scandinavia. So we delayed Turkey and England entering. The games play out as a race to see whether E/F can knock out G before A/T can kill R.

Those are very close to the rules in the original, except in the 2 player game, the SC's required to win is 24. I think it would be a great addition, especially since it is included in the original rules.

@ezpickins: I think what Mongoose meant was that Italy is just not assigned to a player. It is just another neutral country. The same would hold true for the 5 player variant, no player would be assigned to Italy and Germany. But their units would be in place, always hold, and disband if dislodged.

@Gopher, would you not say that a nation such as Russia has a better position then Austria? but through diploamcy, alliances, and that cheesy junk Austria can strive as can France/Austria???
Also if it is so unfair, why did the diplomacy fore fathers make it that way? I assume that it is meant that that one player who is blessed with those nations to be a target, and all of the other nations are able to fall perfectly in some sort of cohesion. the ideal anti that player would be a triple entente to kill Russia and Italy, along with a turkey and Austria helping both fronts.

so its def doable?

Yes, and it's very easy to do. I'm waiting for a better support for "neutral" countries first, because it's no.1 on my wishlist for the webdip-code and it looks like it will take some time till it's done.

@mongoose, that was the point. F/A either teams up with G/T or dies quickly. Neither is a very playable game. Everyone gangs up on R/I and they die or F/A dies quickly. I would not play it again. R/G, A/T, F/I would have to work better.

well what i am saying is that an authentic 2-6 player game would be cool to have here. im sure we could have a new thread suggesting what it should be.
(and England would be pressured to join Germany, no? for if it joined France, he may have to fear Russia's wrath, especially because Italy will probably be tying up some A/T units down south, so Russia can focus north. and England would be guarenteed not to have Norway by 1902)

So what is the difference between Alacavre and regular Diplomacy? To me, it seems like it is the exact same game. What makes it a variant?

Glitch in 1880
gameID=394

In this game, the press is not colored and the sending country is not shown, making it difficult to identify who sent it in global press. The color also does not show up in the private press either. However, when I view this game on an ipod, the colors are displayed. At first, I thought global press was grey press, but since it can be viewed on an ipod, it must be a glitch.

I am in bugged game
http://vdiplomacy.com/board.php?gameID=465&nocache=944
I joined this one few days ago and unfortunetlly my opponent missed all turns so i was quickly able to expand and take both of flagships out on same phase. But now (when the flagships are destroyied) the game isn't ending....my opponent doesn't have any SCs nor fleets...and the game has marked him/her "Defeated" too :)
So could admin/mod end my game if it isn't too much to ask

Australia Game?
I've got five friends looking to play an Australia game and we need three more to fill it up. One day phases, anonymous players, WTA, 30 D. We're decent players, and should give a good communicative game.
