Fire and Blood - Game updates
The NWO game is underway. We have a healthy number of vdip players playing (thank you!), so I'll be posting the results here too. I just wanted to start up a clean thread for game updates and discussion. Here is the starting map:

And in other news
I am proud to announce the birth of a complete first and second draft of my novel 'Seven Sins' which I have been writing for the past 29 days. That is one reason I am only in one game at the moment.

Cold War Variant Poll
Hello vdip players. Safari and I have been working on our 1v1 Cold War variant for a while now and we are finished with most of the coding and such. We are currently going through some balance issues and have identified a problem we would like to fix.

Back in black
Hey guys, sorry I've been gone so freaking long. I would have come back sooner if I could. Main issue is that they blocked V-dip from work. I had no other place to log in besides my job so now that I found a work around I am somewhat back in business...sorry for leaving everyone hanging when it mattered most, there was just everything out of my control. :(

What are the victory conditions for Fall of the American Empire: Civil War?
Richmond and Washington DC appear to be the capitals. In 1066, one must be in control of both their own capital and the capital of an enemy country. Are the rules similar for the Civil War variant, or are they just likely any other supply center?

Large Map Arrow Click
So the idea is, you can click through the maps but the full-size map or the large map. It'd be useful for larger variants like Gobble and WW4, rather than having to maximize each individual picture.

World Dipcon (Chapel Hill)
The World Dipcon tourney is approaching Memorial Day Weekend (May 20-22) and is being held in Chapel Hill, NC.
Housing is relatively inexpensive as is the entry fee.(Foreign travelers stay for free)
I am making my very first face to face tournament appearance and hope many here also make that jump as well. Do consider it and if you ARE going let us know!

Would anyone who is reliable be interested in a classic chaos game? I want to play one but don't want it to be ruined by large amounts of drop outs.

WII recreation
Hi everyone. Since the variant exists, i want to make a team game of variantID=87 (GB,France, SU vs Germany and Italy). That obviously has one major weak point. it's three (21 SCs) against two (14 SCs), with a difference of seven SCs. Those are my thoughts on that so far:

Anyone up for giving this a go? It's like the normal classic, with the ability to send anonymous messages in addition to normal ones. I was thinking it would be 1 day phase, Anon, and full press. I'm not bothered about buy-in.

No grad school here either, a simple bachelor's degree in Business
...from a Sate school at that!
No computer/IT background either, I did have a lite bright as a kid if that counts?
I have a drivers license and a marriage license, I have a dog license for my Eskie. I guess I'm below so many others???

Yeah, it does sound a bit hoity toity doesn't it?

So much for my theory. It just seemed like a great many people that I have chatted with on here had ended up being either grad students or worked in corporate IT. The third option was just to allow for the unlikely possibility of eventual graduation.

at almost 53 years old, I don't think I will ever "eventually" get a Masters. In fact, I can guarantee it aint gonna happen! (I just don't care to spend the time OR the money)

why is that the third option? Why can't we be happy the way we are? You may have some doctors here...good for them doing what they like. But what's wrong with even a high school drop out who works on a garbage truck? He's doing an honest days work and maybe he even enjoys it! If one is doing what he likes or if one simply can't cut it going to college, why should they feel like a second class person as it really does sound like you are trying to say.

You wanted to know if we were graduate students or IT professionals....no other choices? Then you suggest you should have added a third option where we would eventually get a degree? Nobody from my wife's family graduated from college (not counting me and a sister in-law who married in) my kids were the first (and a few other grandkids now) all nice and hard working people whom you seem should not be here. The inventor of Diplomacy was a mail carrier, I doubt he had a college degree (certainly doubtful he had any advanced degree?) why are you playing such a low brow game? Something created by such a common person???

Tomahaha, my impression wasn't that Gopher was saying anything about anyone being better or worse than anyone else, rather that he was wondering whether his theory about the demographic of the site was correct.

Although he does mention the possibility of eventually completing another course, it doesn't necessarily mean that he thinks that people should try to do one, or that those that don't are any lesser for it.

Grad students are generally a bunch of neurotic psychos, myself included. My question was about social psychology, not educational attainment. Obviously, we attract to ourselves those who are like us. My social interactions on this site have been disproportionately with other grad students and a fair number of corporate IT people. I was asking people in these two categories to identify themselves to see if there are a large number of them on this site.

The categories have been inferred to be exclusive and an attempt at a complete cover when that was never implied.

Also I live in America where there is no system of social class. All that matters in terms of hierarchy building is how much money you have. Credentials are next to meaningless. By the standards of American society, grad students are among the lowest status beings imaginable. We are generally not engaged in economically productive activity. We are not even monks; we are novice monks in a basically secular society. I will never make as much money after I graduate as I did before I started and I knew this before beginning. I will also have lower status than I did in my previous profession. I did not think that I was even open to being interpreted in the manner that Tomahaha seems to have. The third option of eventually getting a degree was in the original post: was one a graduate student when joining vDip but have now finished.

Does anyone have an explanation for why Prussia didn't take Holland from France? RH moved to HOL with support from KIE. It seems that the support was cut, but I don't see any moves to KIE.
