Large Map Arrow Click
So the idea is, you can click through the maps but the full-size map or the large map. It'd be useful for larger variants like Gobble and WW4, rather than having to maximize each individual picture.

The World Dipcon tourney is approaching Memorial Day Weekend (May 20-22) and is being held in Chapel Hill, NC.
Housing is relatively inexpensive as is the entry fee.(Foreign travelers stay for free)
I am making my very first face to face tournament appearance and hope many here also make that jump as well. Do consider it and if you ARE going let us know!

Would anyone who is reliable be interested in a classic chaos game? I want to play one but don't want it to be ruined by large amounts of drop outs.

WII recreation
Hi everyone. Since the variant exists, i want to make a team game of variantID=87 (GB,France, SU vs Germany and Italy). That obviously has one major weak point. it's three (21 SCs) against two (14 SCs), with a difference of seven SCs. Those are my thoughts on that so far:
GOD (1861 D Mod (B))
07 Apr 14 UTC
The Allies hold their troops during the first year. Meanwhile, Germany grabs Austria, Czechoslovakia and the two Polish SCs. Russia is allowed to move two armies to Eastern Poland.
That leaves the Axis with +6 SCs, so one more.I thought of and army in Helsinki or Bulgaria to represent the axis allies.
Thoughts/Suggestions?

Requirements:
2000+ phases
95+ RR
bet: 20 D?

From a purely historical point of view, Italy might invade Albania to get the 21st axis SC (like Austria and what corresponds to the Prague SC, Albania was under axis control since before the start of WWII).
It might also make sense to let Germany take only one or two of Warsaw/Cracow/Bratislava (Poland was invaded in September 1939, Slovakia was allied to the axis, but nominally independent..), while letting Italy take one or two of the SCs in eastern Lybia.

Btw, I might be interested, but only played 1000+ phases. But just in case, what kind of press/phase length settings are you going to suggest?

hmm sorry, but actually I would like to keep up the minimum of 2000 phases, except if you have played more on webdip etc... :-/
The Italian army in Albania is a good idea!
And if Slovakia remains neutral, there could be either a Italian army in Bulgaria or a German army in Helsinki...preferences?
GOD (1861 D Mod (B))
08 Apr 14 UTC
Oh and phase lenghts of two days? When the battlefields have reached their full extent, there are many many units to coordinate and strategies to discuss...it will be full press, so that you can talk with your ally and people can chat in global for fun
I'd be interested as well to play this. I have over 2000 here, plus a bunch more over on webdip...

Wasn't the SU neutral until 1941, when Germany invaded? It wouldn't make much sense for the SU to be on the allies' side before then, seeing it signed a Non-aggression pact with Germany.
GOD (1861 D Mod (B))
09 Apr 14 UTC
Well, then no Soviet troops in poland
tiger (1653 D)
09 Apr 14 UTC
The SU did invade Poland in 1939 with Germany, but was technically neutral until 1941.
diatarn_iv (1458 D)
09 Apr 14 UTC
I think that giving 7 extra SCs to IG (or - equivalently - letting them take those SCs) and then having an extra year with a neutral Soviet Union gives too large an advantage to the axis.

However, perhaps the game could start with Italy and Germany against France and Britain, plus an initially neutral Russia joining the allies after two(?) years.
In those two years, the axis would be able to compensate for its disadvantage by expanding almost freely in eastern Europe (which is not very different from what actually happened).

GOD (1861 D Mod (B))
09 Apr 14 UTC
That sounds solid.
Does everyone agree?
GOD (1861 D Mod (B))
09 Apr 14 UTC
Then again, if SU may only attack in 42, Germany should only be allowed to take Austria and Italy to take Albania...otherwise they can overrun the western Allies.
Also: extend requests always have to be granted and the NMR policy will be set to ∞/1 NMR.

How about the rule that if all capitals of team A have been captured by team B, while team B also holds their own capitals, team B wins immediately and the team A members have to put in hold orders for all their units until B took all the SCs and draw.
diatarn_iv (1458 D)
10 Apr 14 UTC
GOD, I never played the variant, so I can't answer your concern (however, I was suggesting that the SU would enter after two years, i.e. in 1940, not in 1942).

Otherwise, I've come up with a more complicated time-frame to take into account that also Italy did not enter the war as soon as it started.

spring 1938: everybody holds
autumn 1938: everybody holds except Germany, who can move its armies (but not its fleet); furthermore, German troops can't move into territories bordering an allied power (for example, they can't take Switzerland).
spring 1939: war starts between Germany, Britain and France. These powers play normally, but 1) German troops can't enter Switzerland and territories bordering the Soviet Union, and 2) British/French troops can't move into territories bordering Italy (Cote d'Azur and territories in France proper are an exception). The Soviet Union holds. Italy can move, but can't enter territories bordering any allied power (except Turin).
fall 1939: the Soviet Union keeps holding; Italy joins the war. So, Italy, Germany, France and Britain play normally, except that Italian/German troops can't enter territories bordering the Soviet Union.
spring 1940: Soviet Union joins the war and all restrictions are lifted

let me know if you play because I'd be interested at looking at how the game evolves..

@diatarn: sounds interesting, but wouldn't the Axis be underpowered then?
diatarn_iv (1458 D)
10 Apr 14 UTC
GOD, I don't know.
You were saying that the axis might be overpowered if Russia starts playing after two years. While I was looking for a way to reduce its advantage, it came to my mind that WWII started as Germany against Britain and France [I'm neglecting smaller countries - such as Poland], and Italy entered the war after about 9 months. So I thought of having Italy start "in between".
If you think that's too much, you can have the SU joining the allies in the fall of 1940 (rather than in the spring)...
GOD (1861 D Mod (B))
10 Apr 14 UTC

First moves for Germany (no Fleets) & Italy while everyone else holds.
Then what year each other player kicks in ie
- England & France that Fall
- Russia Spring next year or what ever

sorry at everyone else but it is a small map

In the first year, only Italy and Germany are allowed to move into these SCs:
Salzburg, Vienna, Tirana, Prague
→by the end of the year, all troops have to be in SCs (meaning allied forces can swap places if they are in home SCs by fall again)→NO positioning of units in strategically valuable territories, eg Cote d'Azur

second year, France, GB and the Axis can move where and how they want, meaning the war begins→SU may move units freely within its borders, but NOT cross them

third year: SU joins the war, full-scale battle begins

thoughts? What about the capitals idea?
So your idea to end the game if one side holds all the capitals at the same time is interesting (Paris, London, Berlin, Rome, Moscow), but would it be the only way to finish it? I am ok with everything else, it seems a good mix between keeping it somewhat accurate and still balanced.
GOD (1861 D Mod (B))
11 Apr 14 UTC
well there are two options: either one alliance has to completely eliminate the others, or the capitals option...I am open for both
Sure, we can leave both options open, but I would think the Capitals would be the likely winner in terms of game play, since it seems like the complete takeover would be only a matter of time at that point.
Strider (1604 D)
13 Apr 14 UTC
So the reality of end game works how? I don't think the game functionality allows for the game to end when certain SC's are captured.
Do we then fall on our knives or what.
GOD (1861 D Mod (B))
13 Apr 14 UTC
yep you must not enter any more orders...but we can also just play until the total victory of the one or the other side :)
