Sitter needed
Starting Friday I am going to be away for 11 days so I was wondering if someone could sit for me in my games.

The only issue with this, is I am a moderator, so I am not sure how this would work...

FoW Orders
Why the orders archive can't be seen in FoW?
Sometimes there is an arrow so misleading you may think the support was given in the wrong direccion, or things like that. Some arrows are not conclusive, but still you can see them, so you should be able to know exactly what move they were, shouldn't you?

I believe I may have stumbled upon a very powerful FvA opening for Austria. I invite you to a series of games investigating the new opening.

Meta-gaming, or Telepathy?
I'm a little baffled, in a game of anonymous gunboat Modern Diplomacy II (http://www.vdiplomacy.com/board.php?gameID=2612), how Egypt and Ukraine were able to coordinate an attack on Russia (me) in Georgia. Either an extremely lucky guess, telepathy, or cheating (violating the spirit of the game, insofar that it's ANONYMOUS and GUNBOAT). Can anyone help me understand this further?
SacredDigits (978 D)
18 Jul 11 UTC
It's a guess.

Ukraine realized he needed a more powerful ally because he was getting screwed hard by you, and he noted that Egypt was attacking you, so he tried to put a support move order in. I haven't gone through the order history, but that's another key in gunboats. People will often signal you through orders, even ones that don't succeed. So if you're in a gunboat, I'd check the orders history every year to see if there are situations you can take advantage of or situations you can defend against.

I'm not in this game, just to state that.

SacredDigits (978 D)

Well, I mean, you did toss out cheating and telepathy, kind of escalates it past polite question.
AdamNTM (965 D)
18 Jul 11 UTC
Really, wow, for a bunch of guys who play Diplomacy, people certainly can be sensitive about a question! Please, SacredDigits, enlighten me as to how I might have put my inquiry, such that I could ask what I did, without in any way insinuating that "meta-gaming" (the "polite" way to say cheating I guess) may have been going on?...
SacredDigits (978 D)

I'm a little baffled, in a game of anonymous gunboat Diplomacy, how two powers were able to coordinate an attack on a third power. Any thoughts?

This way, you don't give up the anonymity or gunboat nature of the game and do not put yourself in the metagaming position you accuse others of being in.
AdamNTM (965 D)

Ahh, I see what you mean, I've inadvertently revealed who I am in that game, oops, my bad! Thanks for your patience SD, I sincerely appreciate it!

(mod here) Wells whats really peculiar is that the log in times for Russia, Egypt and Ukraine are identical. (particularly between Russia and Egypt, being 35 seconds apart in 1 case). Either the 3 of you are metas together, in which Russia was betrayed by his comrades or this is just a random coincidence.
AdamNTM (965 D)
18 Jul 11 UTC
Interesting...
MarcAntony (930 D X)
19 Jul 11 UTC
If AdamNTM is Russia...Why would he being a meta-gamer attack himself with 2 other nations then bring it up in the forum? My point is that it makes no sense bringing this undue attention to oneself and it must be a coincidence for Russia's long on times. However Adam it is not right for you to expose your identity in an ongoing gunboat game.

Also orders like that are very important for gunboats, they are the only way to make a kind of alliance

Egypt could obviously take Anakara with the units in Asia minor, and Armenia was either going to do nothing, or try to block a support.

Ukraine guessed correctly and made a enemy of my enemy is my friend choice.

good guess on his part.

So what about the coordination of TWO moves between Poland and France?!?! That stinks to me, check it out!! gameID=2612
SacredDigits (978 D)
23 Jul 11 UTC
If you're going to think that every supported move is metagaming, perhaps gunboat is not the style of play for you.
AdamNTM (965 D)
23 Jul 11 UTC
But TWO moves, seriously?!?
Guaroz (2030 D (B))
23 Jul 11 UTC
Well France & Poland have 2 common enemies, Germany & Russia, so it's easy for them try to help each other against them. Now look at the spring map. Why Poland should be moving into Finland? Easy to guess for France what he has to support with an army (Norway) that has nothing better to do. Notice France stop bouncing into Murmansk and moving into White Sea. Now looks like 3 countries want Murmansk but if France wanted to help Poland he would have supported Gorky rather than move to WS.
So, in the autumn map, Poland perfectly knows that France won't support him. Gorky HAS to support the French fleet. Since Murmansk can't be Polish, then better French than Russian.
So these TWO moves were rather obvious. And one was a "replay" of the same spring move.

Adam, really, please consider SacredDigits' advice. Looks good.

Adam have you played much gunboat? Perhaps instead of throwing around cheating accusations you should try to understand why people order as they do. For instance norways support order: is there a better order for that army? Is offering that support in France's interest? I'm a very experienced gunboat player and the answer to those questions is clearly: no and yes.
AdamNTM (965 D)
23 Jul 11 UTC
How is helping France in any other player's best interest, given the current state of affairs?
Guaroz (2030 D (B))
23 Jul 11 UTC
Even Germany understood what was going on in Murmansk, and ordered Sweden to support to Norway from Lapland (Most likely Russia's move, since Murmansk is lost, Barents makes no sense, moving to NorwegianSea too, supporting the German fleet to NorSea makes sense but the most sensed thing is moving to Norway: it is a SC and the move cuts French support). But Lapland moved to Barents...Probably Germany now is wondering "Why Lapland moved there? There are no SCs in the North Pole! Unless Russia is a metagamer who wants France as winner..."
Guaroz (2030 D (B))

*look at autumn big map
AdamNTM (965 D)
23 Jul 11 UTC
Obviously Poland wants France to win, why not Russia too? O_O
Holen (961 D)
23 Jul 11 UTC
Just talking about Ukraine and Egypt, its nothing.

France and poland maybe, couldn't say probably nothing.

But it seems you are just calling everyone in the game out against you.
Guaroz (2030 D (B))
23 Jul 11 UTC
ooooops I realized just now that I was talking so deep about an ongoing game...I apologize with everyone, sorry... :(

Adam, "Gunboat" doesn't mean "No Diplomacy". It's just your communications are different and limited.

Hi Oli, could may implement a function, that if in a retreat phase on a unit the only possibility to do is disbanding this is just set automatically?
that would prevent many games to just take longer because of people pissed and not putting the destroy order....
